PS5 emulation on a PC is experimental, and there is no universal setup that guarantees a game will run. KytyPS5 and SharpEmu document different host requirements and game-file inputs; neither source establishes a general PS5 firmware installation procedure. Check the chosen project’s current documentation, confirm your PC meets its stated requirements, and use only game files you are legally entitled to use.
What you need to know before setting up PS5 emulation
Start with the emulator project, not a generic PS5-emulation guide. Requirements and supported inputs are project-specific, and the projects describe compatibility as limited or experimental. Their published requirements are not independent performance tests, so they cannot tell you that a particular PC or commercial game will work.

This guide covers what KytyPS5 and SharpEmu document as of October 4, 2026. For current status and instructions, consult the KytyPS5 README or the SharpEmu repository.
PS5 emulation requirements: compare the documented projects
| Requirement | KytyPS5 | SharpEmu |
|---|---|---|
| Project status | Early-stage; the project warns that compatibility is limited and behavior may change between builds. | Experimental; the project says compatibility and performance vary by game, host OS, and GPU driver. |
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 1803 or later; a current Linux distribution; or experimental macOS support. | Windows x64, Linux x64, or macOS x64. |
| Processor | 64-bit x86, or Apple Silicon with Rosetta 2 on macOS. | Not stated in the consulted README beyond the listed x64 operating systems. |
| Graphics | Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers. | Vulkan-capable GPU with a current graphics driver. |
| Documented game input | A legally obtained game directory, ELF file, or ZArchive dump; the launcher can scan configured folders for game directories containing eboot.bin. |
A legally obtained game’s eboot.bin. |
| Firmware or external low-level modules | The project says external low-level emulation modules are not required or planned. | The consulted README does not establish a general firmware or module workflow. |
These are the projects’ stated requirements, not a recommended gaming-PC tier or a benchmark. In particular, Vulkan support alone does not establish that a GPU has enough performance for a given game.

KytyPS5 host requirements
KytyPS5 lists Windows 10 version 1803 or newer, current Linux distributions, and experimental macOS support. Its hardware list calls for a 64-bit x86 processor, with Apple Silicon supported through Rosetta 2 on macOS, and a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers. Confirm details in the project README, since requirements and behavior may change between builds.
SharpEmu host requirements
SharpEmu lists Windows x64, Linux x64, and macOS x64, and requires a Vulkan-capable GPU and current graphics driver. Its README does not provide a minimum GPU model or a performance tier. Consult the SharpEmu repository for the project’s current instructions.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
How to set up PS5 emulation on a PC
The documented setup differs by project. The available instructions support choosing a project, checking its stated host requirements, and supplying the input it describes; they do not establish a single installer, menu path, or command sequence that applies to both projects.
- Choose a project and check its current instructions. Read the KytyPS5 README or SharpEmu repository for the version and host platform you intend to use. Both projects are experimental, so do not assume an older guide matches a current build.
- Check your PC against that project’s requirements. For KytyPS5, verify the listed OS, processor, Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU, and current drivers. For SharpEmu, verify a listed x64 OS and Vulkan-capable GPU with a current driver. These published requirements do not predict game performance.
- Prepare a legally obtained game input in the documented format. For KytyPS5, the README describes a game directory, ELF file, or ZArchive dump; its launcher can scan configured folders for directories containing
eboot.bin. SharpEmu documents launching the game’seboot.bin. Follow the chosen project’s current instructions for selecting or launching that input. - Check the project’s compatibility information for the game. Limited or variable compatibility means successful launch is not assured, even if your PC meets the listed requirements.
The project documentation cited here does not establish exact installation screens, a universal download source for builds, or a shared configuration workflow. Use the project’s own current instructions rather than guessing at menu labels or copying steps written for another emulator.

Do PS5 emulators need firmware?
Do not assume that a PS5 firmware package is required. KytyPS5 says external low-level emulation modules are neither required nor planned. SharpEmu’s consulted usage documentation describes an eboot.bin input but does not give a general firmware installation guide or specify a PS5 firmware package. That means the available documentation does not establish a universal firmware procedure; it is not evidence that every project has the same requirements.
Keep PS4 instructions separate. shadPS4 identifies itself as a PS4 emulator, so its firmware advice is not a PS5 setup guide. RPCSX describes itself as an experimental PS4 and PS5 emulator for Linux, but the consulted README does not establish a beginner setup, firmware workflow, or minimum PC specification.

What PS5 game files do KytyPS5 and SharpEmu document?
KytyPS5 inputs
The KytyPS5 README describes using a legally obtained game directory, ELF file, or ZArchive dump. It also says its launcher can scan folders you configure for game directories containing eboot.bin. The README’s supported input descriptions do not establish a universal process for extracting, decrypting, or converting game data.
SharpEmu input
SharpEmu documents launching a legally obtained game’s eboot.bin. Its repository says the project does not contain copyrighted firmware, game data, or proprietary PlayStation assets. The cited usage information does not describe a general firmware package or a process for creating the game input.

What to expect from compatibility and performance
KytyPS5 warns that compatibility is limited and behavior may change between builds. SharpEmu labels itself experimental and says results vary by game, host operating system, and GPU driver. Neither project’s cited requirements provide independent benchmarks or a guarantee that a specific commercial title will run. Check the chosen project’s current compatibility and status information before relying on it for a particular game.
