For separate 24/7 shows, give each YouTube stream its own OBS scene, VLC Video Source playlist, encoder output, and matching YouTube stream key. Turn on Loop Playlist, choose whether to keep Shuffle Playlist off or on, then verify each output in YouTube Studio before leaving it unattended. A single feed can also appear in multiple broadcasts, but it carries the same content to each; it does not create separate queues.
Choose the right setup for multiple streams
First decide whether each broadcast needs its own rotation or whether several broadcasts should show the same feed. YouTube distinguishes the viewer-facing liveBroadcast from the incoming liveStream. Its API guide says one stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts, but those bindings do not make independent feeds or playlists. If shows need different videos, use a distinct feed and queue for each. If they should show the same incoming program, a shared feed bound to multiple broadcasts may fit. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API guide describes these resources and the shared-feed use case.

Build a separate playlist queue in OBS for each show
Install VLC and create the first queue
- Install VLC Media Player. OBS’s documented VLC Video Source requires VLC; for 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC. See OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
- In OBS, create a scene for the first destination. Add a VLC Video Source, then select or add the local media files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to start again after the final item. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable sequence, or turn it on for randomized playback.
- Check the source’s visibility behavior and audio-track settings if the scene is hidden or a file contains multiple audio tracks. Add that show’s overlays and other audio sources to its scene as needed.
OBS describes VLC Video as supporting a playlist of items, similar to an Image Slideshow. Use this source for a list of files; a standard Media Source is for a single local file and has its own Loop option. The documented VLC workflow is not a way to paste in a YouTube playlist URL and have OBS fetch its videos.
Repeat without mixing up queues
Create a separate scene and VLC Video Source for every distinct rotation. Give each an unmistakable name, such as “Stream A — queue” and “Stream B — queue.” This naming practice makes it easier to spot an accidental mismatch; it is an operational recommendation, not a YouTube or OBS requirement. Keep each queue limited to the files intended for that show.

Pair each OBS output with its YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the intended broadcast for the destination channel. Check its title and privacy setting.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that setup into the corresponding encoder output, unless using a supported direct YouTube integration. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains this connection at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Maintain a private mapping of OBS output name, queue, destination channel, stream key, and broadcast. Treat stream keys like passwords: keep them out of public screenshots and instructions.
- For scheduled broadcasts, inspect the current Live Control Room controls and preview before going live. YouTube’s encoder guide describes checking the preview and selecting Go live when ready. OBS’s YouTube integration and scheduled-stream start/stop controls can affect whether a broadcast starts when an encoder connects or ends when it disconnects; labels and behavior may vary with current software versions.
Configure and validate independent outputs
Each independent queue must reach the right independent encoder output, and each output must use the intended YouTube feed settings. YouTube documents separate stream resources as an option for simultaneous broadcasts with different content or settings. How many independent outputs one OBS installation can sustain depends on the installed software support, encoding capacity, available bandwidth, and account controls. The cited platform documentation does not establish a universal stream-count limit for every computer or connection, so do not assume a particular machine can encode an arbitrary number of streams.
Before publishing or leaving the setup unattended, run a short local or unlisted check for every output:

- Confirm the intended playlist is playing and its audio reaches the output.
- Wait for the final item and verify the playlist loops; check shuffle behavior if enabled.
- Confirm the destination broadcast, channel, and privacy setting.
- Check that YouTube’s preview receives the right feed and that the health panel shows no configuration issue.
- Try a temporary disconnect and restart, and observe how the chosen scheduled-broadcast automatic start/stop settings behave. This is a recommended check, not a guarantee of recovery.
YouTube’s LiveStreams API reference exposes stream status and health/configuration issue fields. It lists RTMP, including RTMPS, as well as HLS and DASH ingestion; use the URL and key provided for the selected protocol, and do not select HLS or DASH casually because they have additional encoder requirements. Plan for interruptions and archive limits
A scheduled broadcast’s automatic start and stop behavior can affect what viewers see after an encoder interruption. Check those controls in the current YouTube and OBS interfaces before relying on reconnect behavior. Test a disconnect and restart for each output; a successful test on one setup does not establish that another computer, connection, or account will behave identically.

YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive behavior threshold, not a recommended maximum duration, and the guidance does not establish that an uninterrupted multi-day stream will produce a complete replay. If a full archive matters, check YouTube’s current guidance and consider splitting the operation into shorter broadcasts.
Check rights and monetization before looping files
Only stream media you created or have permission to use. The ability to loop a file does not grant music, video, performance, or redistribution rights. Permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions: YouTube’s monetization policy says highly repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible and describes reused content as repurposed material without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Permission alone does not establish monetization eligibility. Review YouTube channel monetization policies; its policy page carries an update note dated July 15, 2025, and policies may change.
