To set up Prime Video parental controls, create an Account PIN, then configure viewing restrictions for each device a child uses. Purchase restrictions apply across profiles, while Fire TV has a separate set of controls to configure on the device. A Kids profile can filter what children see, but it does not hide existing downloads.
What each Prime Video parental control covers
Prime Video uses several controls with different scopes. An Account PIN is separate from age-based viewing restrictions; setting one does not automatically configure the other.

Amazon describes the service’s controls as allowing account holders to set restrictions for video content that can be viewed or purchased. The important practical distinction is that viewing limits are device-specific, whereas purchase restrictions cover all profiles.

Set up parental controls step by step
1. Create the Prime Video Account PIN
- On the Prime Video website, go to Your Profiles, select Edit profile, and choose the account holder profile.
- Select Manage beside Account PIN and locks. Sign in with your Amazon account details if prompted.
- Select Create beside Prime Video Account PIN, enter a PIN, and continue.
The Account PIN provides a way to manage access and bypass restrictions when needed. Keep it private from children who should not be able to override those controls.

2. Set age-based viewing restrictions on each device
- On a PC or Mac, open Account & Settings → Permissions.
- Choose the appropriate age restriction and select the devices where it should apply.
- Save the changes.
Viewing restrictions do not automatically carry over to every device. If a child watches on more than one device, configure or confirm the restriction for each one.
3. Decide whether to restrict purchases
Purchase restrictions apply across every profile on the Amazon account. The Account PIN is used to bypass restrictions on purchases or subscription creation. Choose these settings separately from device-specific viewing restrictions.

4. Consider a Kids profile
A Kids profile limits the visible catalog to movies and shows rated 12 and under, and filters search results and suggestions. Purchases are unavailable in the profile. It is not a complete barrier to adult material, however: downloads remain accessible there, including titles downloaded through an adult profile. To make switching to adult content harder, lock adult profiles with PINs and restrict profile creation.
Prime Video allows up to six profiles on one Amazon account: the default profile and as many as five additional adult or Kids profiles.

5. Set parental controls directly on Fire TV
Fire TV has its own parental-control settings for content and purchasing. Configure them on the Fire TV device itself; selecting web viewing restrictions should not be treated as a substitute for those controls.

- Mature titles are still available on another device: Check the viewing restriction on that specific device; the setting is not account-wide.
- A child can make a purchase from another profile: Confirm purchase restrictions and protect the Account PIN. Purchase restrictions apply across profiles.
- A Kids profile shows a downloaded title: This is expected; Kids profiles do not remove access to existing downloads.
- Controls differ on Fire TV: Review the parental-control settings on the Fire TV device, which has its own control layer.
- A menu label or option is missing: Amazon notes that content availability and compatible-device requirements can vary by location and time. Menu labels and available controls may also differ by marketplace, app version, or device; consult Amazon’s device-specific help page if the steps do not match your screen.
