To set up OpenLogi with an MX Master 4, install the current OpenLogi release for your operating system, quit Logi Options+ (and Solaar on Linux), connect the mouse by its included wireless receiver or Bluetooth, then select it in OpenLogi and configure its controls. OpenLogi lists the MX Master 4 as supported, but the project is under active development and not yet stable, so check the current installation guide for your OS before starting.

Before you start

OpenLogi is a local-first app for configuring Logitech HID++ devices. Its documentation lists support for macOS, Linux and Windows, and describes connections through Logi Bolt, Unifying and Lightspeed receivers, Bluetooth, or USB. The MX Master 4 appears in its supported-device list under model ID 2b042.

OpenLogi’s project documentation describes the software as “under active development and not yet stable.” Its published v0.8.11 baseline and installation details may change; follow the current OpenLogi documentation and OS-specific installation instructions rather than relying on an old package or walkthrough.

Close software that can compete for the receiver

Quit Logi Options+ before launching OpenLogi. The two applications can contend for HID++ receiver access, and only one can own a receiver at a time. On Linux, quit Solaar as well while OpenLogi needs the receiver.

Connect the MX Master 4

Logitech supports pairing the mouse either with its included wireless USB receiver or directly over Bluetooth. Choose the receiver if you prefer a dedicated USB connection; choose Bluetooth if you want to pair directly with the computer and have the necessary Bluetooth capability. Make sure the mouse is set to the Easy-Switch channel you intend to use.

  1. Turn on the MX Master 4 and connect its included receiver to the computer, or open the computer’s Bluetooth settings to pair directly.
  2. If the mouse is not discoverable over Bluetooth, hold the Easy-Switch button for three seconds. Logitech says the LED should blink quickly when the mouse is ready to pair.
  3. Finish the pairing process in the computer’s Bluetooth settings if using Bluetooth.

See Logitech’s MX Master 4 setup guide for its connection instructions.

Install and select the mouse in OpenLogi

  1. Use the current OpenLogi installation guide for macOS, Linux or Windows. OpenLogi documents Linux packages and permissions, a Windows MSI or portable ZIP, and macOS support; packaging and setup steps can change.
  2. Keep Logi Options+ closed, and on Linux keep Solaar closed while OpenLogi is using the receiver.
  3. Launch OpenLogi and select the detected MX Master 4 from its device list.
  4. If recognition or a control is uncertain, use OpenLogi’s device diagnostics and check the features reported by that specific mouse. A firmware-reported identifier can look different from the model ID in OpenLogi’s supported-device registry.

The OpenLogi installation guide has the current platform-specific instructions, while its MX Master 4 device guide covers the device’s supported controls.

Configure controls for your mouse

The MX Master 4 guide documents DPI settings and presets, SmartShift, scroll inversion, button actions and gesture bindings. It also covers the Haptic Sense panel. Select the mouse in the app and configure the controls you want to use; the guide’s example TOML shows the general configuration shape.

OpenLogi documents DPI control, but that does not mean every setting or interface is identical to Logitech’s software. Logitech says the MX Master 4 is configured at 1000 DPI by default and that its sensor can be extended up to 8000 DPI using Logi Options+. Those figures describe Logitech’s support information, not an OpenLogi recommendation or a guarantee that the two apps expose identical controls.

Linux: permissions and background agent

OpenLogi’s Linux packages install udev rules for HID++, uinput and the mouse input node. If the mouse or receiver was connected when those rules were installed, unplug and reconnect the receiver or power-cycle the mouse so the new rules can take effect.

The installer starts a per-user background agent when systemd is available. If you install a package manually, enable that agent separately according to the current installation guide. Keep Solaar closed while OpenLogi needs access to the receiver.

Windows and macOS notes

OpenLogi documents Windows MSI and portable ZIP installation as well as macOS support. With a Windows portable install, keep the GUI and background agent together. For both platforms, use the current official guide for exact download and setup steps; the project is actively developed, and packaging details can change.

What to expect from the mouse

Logitech’s undated support page states that three minutes of charging provides enough power for a full day of use and that a full charge lasts up to 70 days. Logitech qualifies battery life as dependent on use and operating conditions; these are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.
