Install the NewTek NDI SDK redistributable on both computers, reboot them, then add an NDI Source in Streamlabs Desktop and select the sender. For Streamlabs Desktop 1.20.6 and later, Streamlabs specifies NDI SDK 6 or higher.
What you need before you start
- A sender: Streamlabs Desktop is the receiver in this setup. A second application or device must capture and transmit an NDI stream over the local network first.
- A receiver: The computer running Streamlabs Desktop, with the NewTek NDI SDK redistributable installed.
- A local network connection: Both computers need to be able to discover one another on the network. Streamlabs’ receiving instructions do not specify router settings or firewall port numbers.
Streamlabs’ receiver instructions, last updated June 10, 2026, specify NDI SDK 6 or higher for Streamlabs Desktop version 1.20.6 and later. Follow that Streamlabs-specific requirement rather than relying on older runtime requirements from unrelated plugin guides. Streamlabs: NDI Receiving Setup in Streamlabs Desktop

Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
There is an audio caveat for one specific OBS route: audio from a Browser source using the Dedicated Output NDI filter is not transmitted because of Browser source limitations. If that is your source path, arrange audio through another method.
Send a screen or region, or use a mobile device
Streamlabs also documents Scan Converter 2 for capturing an entire monitor or a selected region and transmitting it, and identifies a mobile device as another possible sender. The appropriate choice depends on whether you need an OBS output, a screen capture, or mobile video. The sender guides do not establish that every path carries audio in the same way; verify audio for the particular source and application you choose. See Streamlabs’ sender options guide.

Install the NDI prerequisite on both computers
- Install the NewTek NDI SDK redistributable on the computer running Streamlabs Desktop.
- Install the same prerequisite on the computer or device running the NDI sending application, where that sender supports the installation.
- Reboot both computers after installation.
- Start the sender and confirm it is transmitting an NDI stream on the local network.
For Streamlabs Desktop 1.20.6 and later, the receiver guide calls for NDI SDK 6 or higher. Use the current Streamlabs requirement for the receiver version you have rather than substituting an older runtime recommendation intended for another application.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Add the NDI feed to a Streamlabs scene
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and select the scene where the feed should appear.
- In the Sources list, click the + icon.
- Choose NDI Source.
- In the source properties, select the active NDI stream you want to receive.
- Confirm the source and check the preview. Active NDI streams on the local network should be detected automatically.
Troubleshoot a missing source or feed
NDI Source is missing from the source list
- Check that the NDI SDK installation completed correctly on the Streamlabs computer.
- Reboot after installation if you have not already done so.
The source exists, but the sender does not appear in its properties
- Confirm the sender application is actively transmitting an NDI stream.
- Check that the sending application and Streamlabs Desktop are allowed through the firewall.
- Ensure both computers use the private network profile.
The sender appears, but no picture or expected audio arrives
- Verify that the sender is still running and outputting the intended stream.
- For OBS Browser sources using the Dedicated Output NDI filter, account for the documented limitation: Browser-source audio is not transmitted through that route. Use another audio method.
- If discovery or reception still fails, recheck SDK installation and the private network profile on both computers. The Streamlabs receiver guide does not publish port numbers or specific router configuration, so do not open arbitrary ports based on guesswork.
