To set up a Mint Mobile eSIM, first make sure your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM, then connect to Wi-Fi and follow the activation prompts in the Mint Mobile app. You’ll need the 11-digit eSIM activation code from your order email. If you’re bringing your existing number, submit your old carrier’s transfer details and wait for the port to complete before installing the eSIM.
Before you start
- Check eSIM compatibility and unlock status. Use Mint’s phone compatibility check for your exact model. A phone can support eSIM and still be locked to its previous carrier; Mint says a locked phone cannot use Mint service. If your phone is not eSIM-compatible, Mint offers a physical SIM option. See Mint’s eSIM information.
- Update your phone and connect to reliable Wi-Fi. Mint recommends doing both before activation; the app and eSIM download need an internet connection.
- Find your activation code. Mint’s eSIM activation code is 11 digits and is sent to the email used at checkout. If you cannot find it, check spam or junk and other inbox tabs, then confirm you are checking the right email account. Mint’s activation-code help page has more guidance.
- If transferring a number, keep the old service active. Have your current carrier’s account number, transfer PIN or account PIN, and billing ZIP code ready. Mint advises waiting until activation and the transfer are complete before canceling the old service; a port can take longer than a few minutes.
Activate a new Mint eSIM
Mint’s activation process is app-led. The exact prompts differ by platform, and Android menu names can also vary by manufacturer and model. Follow the instructions shown in the Mint app and on your phone rather than assuming every device uses the same settings labels.

- Connect to Wi-Fi, then download or open the Mint Mobile app and choose Activate Your SIM Card.
- Enter the 11-digit eSIM activation code from your order email. The app should detect whether the phone supports eSIM.
- Choose whether to get a new number or transfer your current number. For a new number, continue without the port details. For a transfer, provide the requested phone number, ZIP code, current carrier, and account or transfer credentials.
- Submit the transfer request, if applicable, and finish creating your Mint account in the app. Track the transfer in the app or wait for Mint’s confirmation email. Install the eSIM only after the transfer completes.
- Choose QR-code installation and scan the code provided in the confirmation email. If scanning does not work, use manual installation with the SM-DP+ address and activation code supplied by Mint.
- Follow the phone’s installation prompts. If mobile data does not work on Android after activation, follow Mint’s APN configuration guidance; restarting the phone may also help it connect.
iPhone setup
Use the Mint app’s iPhone activation prompts to start the process, then follow the iPhone’s eSIM installation screens. Mint publishes separate iPhone and Android activation guides, so do not apply Android menu paths to an iPhone. If your iPhone remains on “Activating,” open Settings > Cellular, select the number being activated, and check that Turn On This Line is enabled, as Mint recommends in its eSIM troubleshooting guide.
Android setup
On Android, start in the Mint app and enter the activation code as described above. Select a new number or submit your port details, then choose QR installation or manual entry when prompted. Android settings labels and the location of eSIM controls differ among manufacturers and models, so follow the on-screen instructions for your phone. If service activates but mobile data does not, use Mint’s APN guidance linked in its activation instructions.

Transfer an existing Mint physical SIM to eSIM
If you already have Mint service and want to move its line from a physical SIM to an eSIM, use Mint’s in-app replacement flow rather than the new-customer activation steps:
- Update the Mint Mobile app and sign in.
- Open Account > SIM Card > Order Replacement SIM.
- Choose Get an eSIM if the option appears, confirm the phone you want to use, and complete the order and installation prompts.
Mint says the eSIM option may not appear if the phone does not support it. See Mint’s physical-SIM-to-eSIM instructions.

Choose the right installation or activation path

Fix common Mint eSIM problems
The activation email or code is missing
Search your inbox for “Mint Mobile,” “activation code,” or “order confirmation.” Check spam or junk and tabs such as Promotions or Updates, and verify the email address used at checkout. Mint’s activation-code help page covers where to look.

Make sure the QR code is clearly displayed, clean the camera lens, and adjust the display brightness. If scanning still fails, use manual installation and enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code provided by Mint.

The iPhone is stuck on “Activating”
Go to Settings > Cellular, select the line being activated, and verify that Turn On This Line is enabled.
The phone shows SOS or has no signal
Check the following in order:
- Confirm the phone is unlocked and that the number transfer, if any, has completed.
- Make sure the Mint line is enabled and selected for voice or mobile data as appropriate.
- Toggle the Mint eSIM off and back on, then restart the phone.
- Temporarily turn off other SIMs. Some phones limit how many SIM or eSIM lines can be active at once.
- Check for software updates and verify that the Mint eSIM profile is installed.
Mint also recommends removing unused physical SIMs and deleting unused eSIM profiles when appropriate. A deleted eSIM cannot be recovered, so do not remove a profile unless you are sure it is unused and understand how you would replace it.

Activation still fails
Contact Mint Care for help. Mint advises calling from a different phone than the one you are trying to activate.
