LiteSpeed Object Cache can reduce repeated database work on a WordPress site, but the LiteSpeed Cache for WordPress (LSCWP) plugin is only the connector. You must have a separately running Redis, Memcached, or LiteSpeed Memcached-compatible (LSMCD) service and the matching PHP extension. In WordPress, install LSCWP, open LiteSpeed Cache > Cache > Object, turn Object Cache on, enter the host and port supplied by your host, and confirm the connection test passes.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
Object caching complements full-page caching. A full-page cache can return an already rendered response without starting PHP; object cache helps requests that do start PHP by reusing database-query results. Follow the environment checks and verification steps below so you know which cache is working and why.

WordPress repeatedly asks its database for options, post metadata, user information, taxonomy data, and plugin-specific records. Without an object cache, many PHP requests perform the same reads again. An object cache stores the resulting values in memory so later PHP requests can retrieve them quickly instead of querying the database every time.
LSCWP does not contain or install that memory service. LiteSpeed’s documentation states that the plugin supports external object caches such as Redis, Memcached, and LSMCD. The daemon, its memory allocation, network or Unix-socket endpoint, and PHP client extension are responsibilities of the server or hosting provider.

There are two separate caching layers to keep straight:
- Full-page cache: stores a complete generated HTTP response. When a valid public page is served from it, PHP may not run at all.
- Object cache: stores individual values produced while PHP is running, usually database-query results and grouped WordPress data.
Because a page-cache hit can bypass PHP, object cache may be consulted less often on those requests. Object cache is therefore not a replacement for a properly configured page cache; it is most useful for cache misses, uncached routes, logged-in traffic, APIs, and other PHP-heavy work.
Check the server before changing WordPress
Confirm whether LiteSpeed page caching is available
LSCWP’s LiteSpeed page-caching functions require LiteSpeed Web Server, LiteSpeed Web ADC, OpenLiteSpeed, or the QUIC.cloud CDN. If the site runs on Apache or nginx without QUIC.cloud, you can still use the plugin’s optimization features and, when your host provides a backend, object or browser cache. The LiteSpeed page-cache functions themselves will not be available in that environment.
This distinction matters during testing: an unavailable page cache does not prove that object caching is broken, and a working object cache cannot make Apache or nginx behave as a LiteSpeed page-cache server.
Confirm an external object-cache service and PHP extension
Ask the host which service is provisioned for this site: Redis, Memcached, or LSMCD. Also ask which PHP extension is enabled for the site’s current PHP version, such as php-redis or php-memcached. LSCWP expects a reachable, tested service; activating the plugin does not create the daemon or install the extension.

- Hostname or IP address, unless the provider uses a Unix socket.
- Port number for a TCP connection.
- Unix-socket path, if applicable.
- Any authentication, TLS, or network-access requirements imposed by the host.
Prevent a full-page-cache conflict
LiteSpeed’s installation guidance says to deactivate other full-page-cache plugins before activating LSCWP. Run only one full-page-cache system at a time. Other cache types, including object and browser cache, can coexist, but two plugins trying to generate and purge full pages can produce confusing headers, stale content, and unpredictable purges.
Choose Redis, Memcached, or LSMCD
LiteSpeed supports all three backends. Official documentation does not declare one universally best choice, so select the service your host can maintain reliably and that your site’s plugins support.
| Decision factor | Questions to ask | How it affects the choice |
|---|---|---|
| Host support and maintenance | Which daemon is installed, monitored, patched, and restarted by the provider? | A supported service with clear incident handling is generally safer than an option you must operate yourself. |
| Authentication and TLS | Does the endpoint require credentials or encrypted transport? | Use the method and security controls your provider supports; do not assume an open local endpoint is acceptable for a remote connection. |
| Persistence and failover | Does the site need data to survive a service restart, or is rebuilding the cache acceptable? | Discuss persistence and redundancy with the host. Object-cache contents can usually be regenerated, but downtime or a cold-cache period may still matter. |
| Unix-socket availability | Can the service expose a local Unix socket? | A socket uses a path instead of a TCP hostname and port. The LSCWP setting requires Port 0 for this form. |
| Observability | Can you see memory use, evictions, errors, and restarts? | Choose the backend whose health and capacity you can actually monitor. |
| Plugin-specific cache groups | Do important plugins require special groups or exclusions? | Review groups in LSCWP and test those plugins after enabling the cache. |
Memcached and LSMCD use the Memcached selection in LSCWP. LSMCD is LiteSpeed’s Memcached-compatible service; your host should tell you whether its PHP client and endpoint are presented as Memcached. Redis requires the Redis selection and the corresponding PHP extension.
Install and enable LSCWP
- Sign in to WordPress with an administrator account.
- Go to Plugins > Add New, search for LiteSpeed Cache, choose the official plugin, and select Install.
- Select Activate after installation.
- Open LiteSpeed Cache > Cache. If the server or QUIC.cloud prerequisite is present, enable the main Cache switch. If it is not present, page-cache controls may be unavailable even though other plugin features can still be used.
- Open LiteSpeed Cache > Cache > Object. Object Cache is disabled by default, so switch Object Cache to ON.
- Choose Redis when the host supplied Redis. Choose Memcached when the host supplied Memcached or LSMCD.
- Enter the supplied connection values, save the settings, and read the resulting status instead of assuming that a saved form means the daemon is reachable.
Do not enable a backend merely because its name appears in the selector. The service and PHP extension must already exist for the site’s runtime. If the host has not provisioned either one, stop at this point and request it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEnter the connection details correctly
Use the values supplied for this specific server, account, and PHP environment. The following patterns cover the documented LSCWP settings:
| Connection type | Host field | Port field | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memcached or LSMCD over TCP | The provider’s hostname or IP; the documented default is localhost when the service is local. |
The documented TCP default is 11211. |
Replace both values if your host uses another endpoint. |
| Memcached or LSMCD over a Unix socket | The complete socket path supplied by the provider. | 0 |
Do not enter a TCP port when Host is a socket path. |
| Redis | The provider’s Redis hostname, IP, or socket path. | The provider’s Redis port, or 0 when the documented socket convention applies. |
Redis port and security values are environment-specific; obtain them from the host rather than guessing. |
A common failure is mixing a socket path with a normal TCP port, or entering localhost when the daemon is on another machine. Another is using a PHP extension for a different PHP version than the one serving WordPress. Have the host verify the endpoint from the same web-server account and PHP runtime that executes WordPress.

Set a conservative lifetime and review cache groups
Object lifetime
The documented default object-cache lifetime is 360 seconds. LiteSpeed recommends a relatively short lifetime to limit stale results. Keep the default initially unless you have a measured reason to change it, and treat any longer value as a freshness trade-off rather than an automatic performance upgrade.
Global Groups and Do Not Cache Groups
Review the Global Groups and Do Not Cache Groups settings in the Object tab. Global groups identify data that should be shared consistently across site contexts; excluded groups prevent selected data from being stored. The correct list depends on the plugins and multisite behavior on your installation. If a plugin’s documentation requires a group to remain uncached, honor that requirement instead of forcing every query into the backend.
Persistent connections
If you use Memcached, persistent-connection behavior should agree with the PHP setting memcached.sess_persistent when that setting applies to your environment. Ask the host which value is active before changing the LSCWP option. A mismatch can create connection behavior that looks intermittent even though the daemon itself is healthy.
Test the connection and verify real requests
Use the Object tab status first
After you enable Object Cache and save, LSCWP automatically tests the connection and detects the Redis or Memcached PHP extension. The Object-tab status should show a healthy connection without errors. If the test fails, treat the status message as a configuration problem to resolve before judging speed.
Inspect response headers
Open your browser’s developer tools, reload a public URL, and inspect the response headers. LiteSpeed documents these indicators:

These headers describe page-cache behavior, not whether every database read came from Redis or Memcached. Pair them with the healthy Object-tab status and the backend’s own monitoring where available.
Test personalized routes separately
Use separate test cases for an anonymous public page, a logged-in dashboard, a membership page, a shopping cart, checkout, account pages, and any route that varies by cookie or user. A public page can be a page-cache hit while a logged-in page must execute PHP and rely much more heavily on object caching. Never infer the behavior of user-specific pages from one anonymous response.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot “object cache unavailable”
The Object Cache switch is off
Object Cache starts off by default. Return to LiteSpeed Cache > Cache > Object, turn it on, select the backend that is actually provisioned, save, and read the status result.
The PHP extension is missing
Ask the host to enable the matching extension for the PHP version used by the web request. Installing a command-line extension for one PHP version does not guarantee that the web server’s PHP worker can load it. After the host changes the runtime, re-run the Object-tab test.
The daemon is not running or the endpoint is wrong
Have the provider confirm that Redis, Memcached, or LSMCD is running, listening on the supplied address, and reachable from the WordPress server. Check spelling, port, firewall rules, and whether a socket path exists. For a socket, use the exact path and Port 0; for TCP Memcached or LSMCD, start with the documented localhost:11211 only when the service is local and uses that default.
A full-page-cache plugin is competing with LSCWP
Deactivate the other full-page-cache plugin, clear its generated cache using its own controls, and then clear or warm the LSCWP cache as appropriate. Keep one full-page-cache system active. This issue is separate from the object backend, but conflicting page-cache rules can make testing appear inconsistent.
Best Value
Pages look stale
Shorten the object lifetime back toward the documented 360-second default, inspect Global Groups and Do Not Cache Groups, and review purge behavior when content changes. For dashboard caching, remember that an old value can be visible briefly; disable admin caching if that trade-off is unacceptable for editors or operators.
The site is on Apache or nginx without QUIC.cloud
That environment cannot provide LiteSpeed’s page-cache functions. You may still use LSCWP optimization features and a separately provisioned object cache, but do not expect LiteSpeed page-cache headers or page-cache controls to appear as they would on LiteSpeed Web Server, Web ADC, OpenLiteSpeed, or QUIC.cloud.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What performance change should you expect?
No official performance percentage is established for this setup. Results vary with database size, PHP workload, plugin behavior, cache memory, network distance, and the proportion of requests that are already full-page-cache hits. Object caching is most valuable when PHP repeatedly requests the same data; it can have little visible effect on a site whose public traffic is already served almost entirely from page cache.
Measure instead of promising a number. Record the same URLs before enabling object cache, warm the site through representative anonymous and logged-in flows, then repeat the measurements under comparable conditions. Keep page-cache status, PHP version, traffic, and content state consistent. Compare database-heavy routes and uncached personalized routes separately from public page-cache hits. This isolates the work object cache can actually reduce.
Also watch for negative signals: connection errors, evictions caused by an undersized backend, stale administrative values, or plugin-specific data that should have been excluded. A slightly slower first request followed by faster repeated PHP requests can be normal while the cache warms.
A practical Redis-versus-Memcached decision
- Start with the host’s supported option. Ask which backend is already monitored and which PHP extension is available for your account.
- Check security requirements. If the endpoint is remote or shared, verify authentication and TLS capabilities rather than assuming a local, unauthenticated connection.
- Decide whether persistence or failover matters. If rebuilding cache data after a restart is acceptable, say so; if cold-cache periods or service loss are operationally costly, discuss persistence and redundancy with the provider.
- Prefer an available Unix socket when appropriate. A local socket can avoid TCP configuration, but it requires the exact path, correct permissions, and Port
0in LSCWP. - Confirm plugin compatibility. Review cache groups and exclusions for plugins that store user-specific, transactional, or otherwise sensitive data.
- Choose the option you can observe. Memory usage, evictions, restarts, and errors should be visible to whoever maintains the site.
Both Redis and Memcached are supported methods in LSCWP. The right answer is the reliable, correctly connected service that fits your host’s security, operations, and plugin requirements—not a universal ranking.

Quick Recap
Operating checklist
- Only one full-page-cache system is active.
- The server or CDN meets the LiteSpeed page-cache prerequisite if you expect page-cache functions.
- The host has provisioned Redis, Memcached, or LSMCD.
- The matching PHP extension is loaded by the web runtime.
- Object Cache is ON in LiteSpeed Cache > Cache > Object.
- The backend selection matches the service supplied by the host.
- Host, port, or socket path exactly match the provider’s instructions.
- Unix-socket connections use Port
0. - Memcached or LSMCD TCP connections use the provider’s port; the documented default is
localhost:11211for a local service. - The Object-tab connection test reports a healthy status.
- The 360-second default lifetime and cache-group rules are appropriate for the site’s freshness needs.
- Persistent-connection behavior agrees with
memcached.sess_persistentwhen applicable. - Public, logged-in, cart, checkout, membership, and other personalized routes have been tested independently.
