How to Set Up Google Alerts for Websites and Keywords

Set up Google Alerts for keywords and website-related queries, tune delivery options, and understand what alerts do—and do not—cover.

To set up a Google Alert, open Google Alerts, enter a keyword, phrase, name, or website-related query, review the preview, choose delivery and filtering options, and select Create Alert. Alerts email you when new results for a topic appear in Google Search; they are not a complete feed of every website change or every mention online.

Set up an alert

  1. Open Google Alerts and sign in if Google prompts you. The page provides a field for your topic and a Create Alert control.
  2. Enter the word, phrase, organization, person, or website-related query you want to monitor.
  3. Check the result preview. If it includes unrelated results, make the query more specific—for example, add a distinctive product, person, or subject phrase.
  4. Open the alert options and select the frequency, sources, language, region, and result-volume setting that suit your needs. The exact labels and available choices may change; check the current controls on the page.
  5. Select Create Alert. Google can then email you when new results for the topic appear in Google Search. See Google Search Help’s alert instructions.

Choose a query for a website or keyword

Google Alerts monitors a query, not a website as a complete change log. A query that includes a domain or a distinctive phrase can help focus results, but it does not guarantee that Google will find every page, update, or mention.

Examples to adapt

  • Organization: Example Company
  • Distinctive product or phrase: "Example service"
  • Domain and subject: example.com product announcement
  • Person and topic: Alex Example renewable energy

These are starting points, not guaranteed search rules. Review the preview and adjust the wording until the results are relevant enough for your purpose.

Set delivery and filtering options

Use the available settings to balance timeliness, relevance, and inbox volume. Google’s interface and training guidance describe choices such as frequency, sources, language, region, and result volume; labels and availability can change.

  • Frequency: Choose delivery suited to the urgency of the topic and how much email you want. More frequent delivery may be useful for a time-sensitive subject; a less frequent option can reduce interruptions.
  • Sources: Narrow or broaden the types of results when the interface offers a relevant choice.
  • Language and region: Focus results on a language or geographic area when that matches what you need to follow.
  • Result volume: Select the available quantity or quality option to balance broader coverage against irrelevant matches.

If you manage several alerts, Google News Initiative describes an option to group multiple alerts into one email. Consult its Google Alerts training guide and confirm the current setting in your account.

Edit or manage an alert

Return to Google Alerts to find and manage your alerts. To change how an alert is received, open its settings, make the adjustment, and select Save. Google Search Help also describes managing alert settings and delivery.

What Google Alerts can—and cannot—tell you

Google describes Alerts as email notifications when new results for a topic appear in Google Search. That makes them useful for keeping an eye on searchable results about a keyword, organization, person, or domain-related query. It does not establish that every page on a site is monitored, that every web mention will be detected, or that a missing notification means nothing changed.

If your goal is a screenshot rather than an email notification about search results, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The API accepts the same parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can make switching easier. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

For example, this cURL request captures a page as WebP:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Sign up for ScreenshotNeo to get 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
