The most common setup mistake is entering the game port where DZSA needs the Steam query port. The two ports serve different purposes: the game port handles DayZ traffic, while the query port is used to identify the server in the listing.

What DZSA Launcher integration actually does
DZSA Launcher is a free community-built Windows desktop application that combines a DayZ server browser with an automatic mod manager. When a player selects a compatible server, the launcher reads the server’s requirements, compares them with the player’s installed Workshop content, downloads anything missing, and starts DayZ with the complete required set active.
That workflow removes two error-prone manual tasks: finding every required Workshop item and reproducing the correct launch parameters. It does not replace the DayZ server configuration, decide which packages are server-only, or change gameplay settings by itself. Those remain server-administration tasks.

The integration has three separate layers
- Server integration: the DZSA component installed through the host control panel or your server deployment method.
- Server discovery: registration using the server’s public IP and Steam query port so it can appear in the DZSA listing.
- Mod and gameplay configuration: DayZ launch parameters, client/server mod roles, and optional mission gameplay settings.
Keeping those layers separate makes troubleshooting easier. A server can be configured correctly but absent from the listing because its query-port registration is wrong. Conversely, a listed server can still reject players if its client and server mod lists do not match.
Prerequisites before you begin
- A running DayZ PC server and permission to install extensions or non-Workshop components.
- Access to the hosting control panel, deployment scripts, or server files, plus the ability to restart the DayZ service.
- The server’s public IP address.
- The Steam query port used by that server. Obtain the actual query port from your host or deployment configuration; do not substitute the DayZ game port.
- A current list of Workshop packages that clients must load and a separate list of packages that are server-only.
- A way to edit the DayZ launch command and
serverDZ.cfgif you manage the machine yourself. - Players who want automatic downloads must install DZSA Launcher locally on their own PCs.
If you rent the server, the provider may expose all of these functions as control-panel options. On a self-managed machine, you are responsible for installing the integration, setting the command line, restarting the service, and making the query port available to the listing service.
Install the server-side DZSA component
Hosted control-panel workflow
Host Havoc’s documented DayZ workflow uses its control panel. The path is:
- Open the DayZ service in the control panel.
- Open Non-Workshop Mods.
- Select DZSA Launcher.
- Install the component.
- Restart the DayZ server.
The restart is part of the installation, not an optional cleanup step. A running process must reload the server-side integration before the listing and launcher workflow can use it.
Self-managed or another host
On a self-managed server, install the DZSA integration supplied by your host, deployment package, or server-management method. Use that method’s documented install location and service account rather than copying files into an arbitrary DayZ directory. After installation, restart the DayZ process and confirm that the service starts normally before attempting registration.

Control panels differ in their labels. If there is no item explicitly named DZSA Launcher, look for a non-Workshop-mod, server-extension, or mod-management section in the DayZ service. Do not assume that installing a client-side Workshop mod is equivalent to installing the server-side integration.
Register the server in the DZSA listing
After the integration is installed and the server has restarted, use the DZSA server-check page to register it. Enter the server’s public IP and Steam query port in this exact form:
IP:QueryPort
For example, replace IP with the real public address and QueryPort with the query port assigned to your service. Do not enter a private LAN address, and do not automatically use the DayZ game port.
Why the query port matters
DayZ uses a game port for player traffic and a Steam query port for server discovery. Bohemia Interactive’s launch documentation gives -port=2302 as a game-port example, but that example does not identify the query port required by the DZSA registration form. Treat the two values as separate fields in your deployment notes.
Allow time for the listing to appear
Host Havoc’s instructions say the listing may take about five minutes to appear after registration. Wait that propagation period before changing several settings at once. If the server is still absent afterward, re-run the server check with the public IP and query port copied from the active service configuration.

Set the DayZ launch command correctly
DZSA can automate a player’s launch, but the server still needs a valid DayZ command line. Bohemia Interactive documents these parameters:

Keep the syntax used by your host or DayZ service wrapper, but preserve the role distinction. A command that points to the wrong configuration file can make a correct mod installation appear ineffective because the process is reading a different configuration than the one you edited.
Separate client-required mods from server-only mods
Client-required packages
A mod belongs in the client-required set when the player must have it to join or play on the server. Make that package available to both the server and the player, and include it in the -mod= list. DZSA uses the server’s requirements to identify missing Workshop content and download it for the player.
Server-only packages
Server-only logic belongs in -serverMod=. Players should not be forced to install a package that never needs to run on their client. Keeping server-only files in the correct parameter also prevents the launcher from treating internal server logic as a client download.

Why a mismatch causes connection failures
Community mod documentation warns that mismatched client and server lists can produce signature or connection failures. Typical examples include putting a client-required package in -serverMod=, omitting a required package from -mod=, or leaving an old package in the command after replacing it. Build the two lists deliberately, then restart the service after every change.

Optional gameplay configuration is separate from DZSA
DZSA registration does not enable custom gameplay values. If your server needs the DayZ gameplay configuration file, copy cfggameplay.json into the mission folder and add this line to serverDZ.cfg:
enableCfgGameplayFile = 1;
Restart the server after changing either the mission file or the configuration switch. If the file is absent, stored in the wrong mission folder, or the switch is not enabled, the server can still appear in DZSA while continuing to use its previous gameplay behavior.

What players must do on their PCs
Install the launcher
Each player who wants automatic mod installation must install DZSA Launcher on their own PC. Server-side installation alone does not install software on a player’s computer.
Connect through DZSA
- Open DZSA Launcher after the server has been registered and had time to propagate.
- Find the server in the launcher browser.
- Select the server and begin the connection.
- When prompted, allow the launcher to identify the server’s required Workshop content.
- Let every missing download finish before launching DayZ.
- Allow the launcher to start DayZ with the required mod set active.
On a first connection, the download phase can take longer than later launches because the local Workshop folder is being populated. Interrupting that process leaves the client with an incomplete set and can produce a connection or signature error on the next attempt.
Players who launch DayZ another way
A player can have the correct Workshop files and still miss the server if DayZ is started without the required active mod set. The automatic workflow depends on launching through DZSA, which supplies the complete set identified from the server.

- Confirm the service restart: restart the DayZ service after installing DZSA or changing its launch command.
- Confirm discovery data: check that the registration uses the public IP and Steam query port, not an internal address or the game port.
- Wait for propagation: allow approximately five minutes for a newly registered listing before judging it missing.
- Test with a clean player profile: use a PC that does not already have every server mod, so you can observe whether DZSA identifies and downloads the missing Workshop content.
- Test the complete connection: verify that DayZ starts from DZSA and that the player reaches the server without a signature or mod-mismatch error.
- Test gameplay settings separately: if you enabled
cfggameplay.json, confirm the expected setting in-game rather than treating listing visibility as proof that the gameplay file loaded.
Troubleshoot a missing server or failed connection

Hosted versus self-managed deployment
The integration steps are conceptually the same, but the amount of control differs. The following comparison uses the documented hosted workflow as an example; it is not a neutral measurement of provider uptime, price, or performance.

Choose hosted deployment when a control panel’s install and restart workflow is more valuable than full server control. Choose self-management when you need direct control over launch parameters, mission files, query-port assignment, or server-only packages.
Maintenance after the first successful launch
When adding or removing a mod
- Decide whether the package is client-required or server-only.
- Add or remove it from the appropriate
-mod=or-serverMod=list. - Make the corresponding Workshop content available on the server when required.
- Restart the DayZ service.
- Have a player connect through DZSA and wait for any missing download to finish.
When DayZ or a Workshop item updates
Game patches can require launcher or mod updates. Treat an update as a compatibility event: let the launcher and Workshop downloads complete, then test a connection before announcing the server as ready. If the server disappears, recheck the registration data separately from the mod update; discovery and mod activation are different failure points.
Keep a short configuration record
Record the public IP, Steam query port, game port, the path named by -config=, and the current client-required and server-only lists. This prevents a routine restart or migration from turning into a port or role-mismatch investigation.
