Follow the instructions for your exact keyboard and utility; the procedures and control names below are vendor-specific examples, not a universal standard.
Before you calibrate: identify the board and its controls
Check the keyboard model, installed switch type, firmware version, and the configuration utility required by its manufacturer. Use that model’s current official instructions: Wooting’s controls are in Wootility, NuPhy’s are in NuPhy IO, and SteelSeries documents a hardware shortcut for supported keyboards. Similar feature names do not guarantee identical behavior across brands.

Keep the keyboard on a stable, level surface. For NuPhy’s documented recalibration, the surface should preferably be non-metallic. If your board calibrates during power-up, leave the keys untouched and keep magnetic sources away from it while it starts; Wooting says that movement or nearby magnetic sources can interfere with startup calibration.

Run the calibration procedure for your keyboard
NuPhy: recalibrate in NuPhy IO
- Place the keyboard horizontally on a level surface, preferably a non-metallic desk.
- Open NuPhy IO and choose Recalibrate.
- Press each key fully down and hold it for at least three seconds. NuPhy says you may press multiple keys together.
- Repeat the presses until every key shown in the interface turns green, then exit recalibration.
NuPhy recommends recalibration after magnetic-keyboard firmware updates or abnormal events such as a disconnection or accidental contact. Its browser-based press-depth display is only a rough reference; browser components may not represent actual key depth exactly.

- Tip: The magnetic switch is designed for magnetic keyboards (Hall effect keyboards), not for mechanical keyboards.
- Experience the Next Generation of Magnetic Switches: The Creamy Jade magnetic switch is a true blessing for Hall Effect keyboard enthusiasts. Designed as a linear Hall Effect switch for mainstream HE (magnetic) gaming keyboards, it delivers an incredibly smooth and responsive typing experience. Factory pre-lubed, it not only produces a deeply satisfying “thock” sound but also completely eliminates any scratchiness or gritty feel. Paired with a 20mm long spring, the rebound is quicker and crisper, making every keystroke feel sharp and decisive.
- Precision Engineered Specifications: With an initial force of 30gf (min) and an end force of 55gf (max), and a total travel of 3.50±0.1mm. The initial magnetic flux is 95+15GS, and the bottom magnetic flux is 580+50GS. This force range ensures a light, agile feel during high-speed operation while delivering just the right amount of feedback at bottom-out, effectively reducing finger fatigue after prolonged use. The well-designed gradient between initial and bottom magnetic flux not only guarantees consistent triggering but also gives the switch its distinctive “thocky” deep sound profile.
- Factory Lubed for out of the box smoothness: Factory pre-lubed delivers a silky smooth feel right out of the box, while tight manufacturing tolerances minimize stem wobble for consistent and stable keystrokes. Built-in light diffuser enhances RGB illumination for a vibrant keyboard lighting effect. The long-stroke, high-quality spring provides a fast and crisp rebound. Whether for competitive gaming or daily typing, this magnetic switch offers a premium experience that is stable, smooth, low-noise, and wonderfully responsive.
- Built to Last: Rated for 100 million keystroke cycles, these switches are highly durable. Premium materials: POM stem for self-lubricating smoothness, PC upper case for excellent light diffusion, and PA66 bottom case for structural stability. The durable construction also contributes to a clean, satisfying sound profile that will elevate your typing experience.
SteelSeries: enter calibration mode with the keyboard shortcut
For the supported models covered by SteelSeries’ instructions, calibration after installing new switches requires GG 30.0 or later and the latest keyboard firmware. Check the current support instructions for your model before proceeding, because software and firmware requirements can change.
- With the keyboard unplugged, hold SS Key + I/O while plugging it in.
- When the keyboard lights yellow, it is in calibration mode. Press every key; each key turns white when calibrated.
- When all keys are calibrated, the shortcut flashes red. Press SS Key + I/O to exit calibration mode.
Wooting: let power-up calibration complete undisturbed
Wooting describes calibration as occurring during power-up: the keyboard records each switch’s analog position as its resting position. Do not press keys during startup calibration. If a key later seems incorrectly detected, Wooting’s reconnect test is to disconnect the keyboard, hold it raised in the air while reconnecting, wait three seconds, and test again. Details for this check appear in the troubleshooting section below.
Set the actuation point
The actuation point is the switch travel threshold at which a keypress registers. A lower threshold makes a key more sensitive; it can also make unintended presses more likely. There is no one setting that suits every keyboard user or task, so choose a value that works with your normal typing or gaming motion and adjust it in small steps if needed.

Wooting: set actuation globally or per key
In Wootility, open the desired profile, go to Performance, and adjust the actuation point either globally or for individual keys. Wooting’s support article, last updated January 5, 2025, says there is no best actuation point; the appropriate choice is personal. Test your usual keystrokes after changing it, and raise the threshold if keys trigger accidentally.
NuPhy: use dead zones to constrain activation
NuPhy IO provides an actuation point along with initial and bottom dead zones. NuPhy describes dead zones as a way to constrain the activation travel region and reduce accidental, disconnected, or missed-trigger behavior. These controls are specific to NuPhy’s implementation; consult its manual for the meaning of each control on your model rather than assuming another brand uses the same definitions.
Configure Rapid Trigger separately
Actuation and Rapid Trigger are related but different. Actuation determines the travel threshold for registering a press. Rapid Trigger changes release and re-press behavior in response to switch movement, so a key can reset and activate again without needing to return to its full resting position. It is available only on supported keyboards, and manufacturers do not define all of its controls identically.

Wooting: tune sensitivity and choose keys
In a Wooting profile’s Performance tab, configure Rapid Trigger globally or per key if your model supports it. Wooting’s guide says the actuation threshold affects where Rapid Trigger becomes active unless continuous mode is used. Sensitivity determines how much movement is needed to reset; higher sensitivity means less release travel before reset. If you want the behavior only on movement keys, apply it per key rather than across the whole board. Wooting says per-key Rapid Trigger is unavailable on the discontinued Flaretech One and Two; check its current supported-model list for other compatibility details.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNuPhy: distinguish release and press distances
NuPhy IO documents separate relative distances for release/deactivation and press/activation, measured in relation to the key’s current position. Continuous Rapid Trigger stays active until full release; without continuous mode, NuPhy says the feature operates only within its documented actuation range. These descriptions apply to NuPhy IO and should not be transferred to another brand’s interface without checking that manufacturer’s manual.
Start with a setting that does not cause keys to chatter or register unintentionally. Then make small adjustments and test the relevant keys with the movement you actually use. This conservative tuning approach follows from the available controls; it is not a tested numeric prescription.

Test input and diagnose a key that will not register
After calibration or a settings change, check the utility’s input feedback or a key tester if available, then type or play using your normal movement. NuPhy cautions that its browser depth display is a rough reference. Wooting’s Analog Monitor reports the switch position detected by the keyboard and can help separate a sensor-reading problem from a key-binding or lock issue.
- For a Wooting board, test for startup interference. Disconnect it, raise it in the air, reconnect it while raised, wait three seconds, then test the key again. Wooting recommends this check when contact or a nearby magnetic source may have interfered with power-up calibration.
- Check whether the utility detects switch movement. If the Analog Monitor shows the key moving, check the key binding and any lock behavior before treating it as a sensor fault.
- If the position reading remains wrong, contact the manufacturer. A missed input can have more than one cause; the available guidance does not establish calibration as the fix for every unresponsive key.
After replacing switches or updating firmware
Do not assume that every magnetic switch can be installed in every Hall-effect board. Compatibility depends on the keyboard and switch; use the manufacturer’s supported combinations and instructions.

Wooting switch selector
Wootility v5.3.0 introduced a Switch Selector intended to optimize calibration, performance, and analog accuracy for selected switches. Wooting’s release announcement dated April 22, 2026 listed 28 supported switch types at release, including Wooting and third-party brands. That is a release-time count, not a guarantee of the current list for every board. The announcement also described spacer selection and said O-ring support was still in beta at that time; check the current utility and board-specific guidance for present availability.
Recalibration after updates or unusual events
NuPhy advises recalibrating after firmware updates or abnormal events such as disconnection or accidental contact. For Wooting, the documented startup process calibrates resting position at power-up. Follow the exact maker’s guidance after an update or hardware change rather than applying another brand’s routine.
