To set up the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select, connect it to your TV’s HDMI port, power it from a wall outlet, select that HDMI input, then follow the on-screen Wi-Fi and Amazon account prompts. Have your network name and password and Amazon account details ready before you begin.
What you need before setup
Gather the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and its included accessories: Alexa Voice Remote, power cable, power adapter, AAA batteries, and optional HDMI extender. You also need a TV with an available HDMI port, a Wi-Fi network and password, and an Amazon account with its email address or phone number and password. Amazon provides a verification-code sign-in route for accounts created without a password. Amazon’s model-specific setup guide lists the setup requirements and steps.

Connect the Fire TV Stick and start it
- Open the remote’s battery compartment and insert the included AAA batteries.
- Connect the power cable to the power adapter and the Fire TV Stick.
- Plug the stick into an available HDMI port on the TV. Use the included HDMI extender if it makes the connection easier to reach; it is optional.
- Plug the power adapter into a power outlet. Amazon says not to connect the stick’s USB cable directly to the TV for power.
- Turn on the TV and use the TV remote to select the HDMI input that the Fire TV Stick is connected to.
Connect the stick to Wi-Fi
Follow the prompts on the TV. You can scan the displayed QR code with a phone for automatic Wi-Fi setup, or use the Fire TV remote to select your network and enter the password. If the network does not appear or the connection fails, verify the network name and password, then follow Amazon’s Wi-Fi setup troubleshooting guidance. If you cannot resolve a Wi-Fi password problem, the model setup guide advises contacting your internet service provider.

Sign in to your Amazon account
When prompted, either scan the on-screen QR code or visit amazon.com/code on a phone or computer and enter the code displayed on your TV. Follow the prompts to finish registration or create an account. If your account was created without a password and the TV asks for one, press Back and use the verification-code option instead.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Fix common first-run problems
- The remote does not pair: Hold the remote’s Home button until the on-screen pairing prompt appears; Amazon says this takes about 10 seconds.
- You cannot sign in: Use Amazon’s account recovery route to reset a forgotten password. If the account has no password, use the activation or verification-code flow shown during setup.
- Apps will not download: Amazon advises adding a default payment method under Your Payments.
After setup
The included Alexa Voice Remote supports Fire TV navigation, playback controls, Alexa voice commands, and preset app buttons. Preset buttons and features can vary by remote. You can try voice search to find apps and set up equipment control if you want the remote to operate your TV’s power and volume.
Fire TV accessibility options include closed captions, a screen reader, screen magnifier, and audio descriptions. Amazon links to its accessibility guidance from the setup page. For app compatibility, check the app’s “Works With” section; Amazon’s device information lists the Fire TV Stick 4K Select as supporting Wi-Fi 5, 8 GB of storage, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG.
