Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo set up a Fire tablet for a child under 13, create an Amazon Kids child profile, then choose its content, age and time settings. You can create a profile through Parent Dashboard or Amazon Family; Amazon also links to instructions for creating one on the tablet, but the exact menu steps can vary by device and software version. A child profile is free on compatible devices; Amazon Kids+ is optional.
Choose the right setup path
Amazon distinguishes a child profile from Parental Controls applied to an adult profile. Amazon describes adult-profile Parental Controls as intended for users aged 13 and older and directs families with younger children to child profiles. These options are not interchangeable: a child profile gives the child a personalized Amazon Kids experience, while adult-profile controls restrict access within an adult profile.

| Option | Intended audience | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Kids child profile | Children under 13, according to Amazon’s guidance | Creates a child-specific experience that parents can manage, including age filters, content and time settings. Availability and features vary by device and marketplace. |
| Parental Controls on an adult profile | Users aged 13 and older, according to Amazon | Applies controls to an adult profile; it does not create a personalized child profile. Amazon cautions that these controls do not necessarily remove mature or adult-rated content from the device or store results. |
See Amazon’s guidance on Parental Controls for the distinction and applicable details.

Create the child profile
Amazon supports adding a child profile through Parent Dashboard or Amazon Family. The labels below describe those paths; for on-device setup, use Amazon’s current instructions for your particular tablet rather than assuming every Fire OS version has the same menus.

After adding the profile, review the settings in Parent Dashboard or the available profile controls on your device. Choose settings for your household rather than assuming a default filter covers every app or activity.
- Age filters: Set the age range for content recommendations and access.
- Shared content: Choose supported books, apps and other library or subscription content to make available to the child.
- Store access and purchase requests: Decide whether the child can browse or request content and how requests or in-app purchases are handled.
- Camera and photo gallery: Review whether the profile may use these features.
- Web access and other permissions: Check the available options and set them to suit the child.
Shared content is subject to Amazon’s support and compatibility limits. Amazon also cautions that individual apps can contain advertising, external links or in-app purchases, or require a separate subscription. Review each app before making it available. See Amazon’s content-management help.
Manage screen time and check activity
Parent Dashboard provides browser and mobile tools for managing profile settings. Depending on the device and marketplace, it can be used to manage screen time, age filters, web access and store access, and to review recent activity. Available controls may differ, so confirm the options shown for your child’s profile and tablet. See Amazon Parent Dashboard help.
