How to Set Up an Always-On YouTube Stream From a Video Playlist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can turn prerecorded videos into a continuous YouTube Live broadcast by connecting an encoder to a stream you create in YouTube Studio. YouTube handles the live event; the encoder plays and sends your videos. The key limitation is that YouTube’s official setup guidance does not explain how to configure a particular encoder’s playlist, repeat it indefinitely, or recover playback after an interruption. Those steps depend on the software or hardware you choose.

Check channel eligibility and video rights first

  • Your channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, and streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
  • Confirm that you have the necessary rights to every video, image, and audio track in the playlist. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube Help notes: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
  • If you have licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent an automated interruption.

Choose how the videos will reach YouTube

YouTube’s encoder workflow is the route for a composed or prerecorded-video broadcast. An encoder is software running on a computer or a standalone hardware device; YouTube documents both categories and recommends professional-grade encoders for higher-production events. Its guidance also says creators do not need expensive equipment to get started. It does not establish minimum computer specifications, a required resolution or bitrate, or a requirement to buy dedicated hardware for this use case. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

Option What is established What to verify for your setup
Software encoder on a computer YouTube describes encoder software on a computer and explains how to connect it to a YouTube stream. Whether the current software supports a local playlist and repeat, and how it behaves after playback, computer, or network interruptions.
Standalone hardware encoder YouTube identifies standalone encoders as an option. Whether a specific device can play and loop stored video without a separate computer, and what recovery and monitoring it provides. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish that one is necessary.

Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio

  1. Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live.
  2. In the Live Control Room, create a stream or use the Manage tab to schedule one. Set the title, visibility, and other event details, checking the current Studio controls as you go.
  3. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into your encoder’s connection settings. Treat the key like a password: do not include it in screenshots or share it publicly.
  4. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Follow the current Studio instructions to start the event; automatic-start options and interface controls can vary.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a continuous-broadcast model in which one live stream can feed a 24/7 broadcast while another broadcast is created for a segment of that feed. This describes the platform’s broadcast model, not a playlist tutorial or a guarantee that a stream will stay online without interruption.

Configure the playlist in your encoder

YouTube does not host or loop your playlist as part of this setup: the encoder must play the video files and send the resulting feed. The exact source type, repeat setting, end-of-playlist behavior, and restart procedure depend on the encoder. The YouTube and OBS materials cited here establish the encoder connection workflow, but do not verify current button-by-button instructions for an OBS playlist or its unattended recovery behavior.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Use the current documentation for your chosen encoder to find its playlist or media-source setup and repeat controls.
  • Check what happens when the last item ends, a file is unavailable, or the encoder restarts. Do not assume the playlist will resume automatically.
  • Before leaving the broadcast unattended, test the playback and recovery process with your actual files and connection. YouTube’s 24/7 broadcast model does not certify your encoder, computer, or network as reliable.

Test the stream and plan to monitor it

Check the preview in Live Control Room before going live, then verify that the event is accessible from the channel or watch page and on mobile. YouTube recommends checking audio and video, accessibility, and configured failover; if you use a backup encoder, test that handoff rather than assuming it works. Plan who will respond to playback failures, network or computer interruptions, rights notices, and the stream’s end state.

Plan for archives separately

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a continuous stream lasting more than 12 hours will produce a complete replay. If you need an archive, check YouTube’s current guidance and plan a separate recording or a stream-rotation approach rather than relying on a full replay of a longer broadcast.
