What you are installing
All the Mods 3 Lite (ATM3 Lite) is the lighter version of the All the Mods 3 modpack for Minecraft 1.12. The CurseForge project identifies Minecraft 1.12.2 as the game version and lists All the Mods 3 Lite-v3.2.0 as its latest listed main file. Its corresponding server download is named ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0.

CurseForge records 676,665 downloads and a last update of June 18, 2022. Those details matter because a modern launcher, Java runtime, or Forge build may not be compatible with this older pack. Every player should use the same ATM3 Lite release and a compatible mod list.
Requirements before you begin
- A computer or host: The machine running the server must have enough memory for the server and the operating system. The official AllTheMods server guide uses at least 6 GB of allocated RAM as a broad baseline for most AllTheMods packs. That is a guide-wide baseline, not a measured ATM3 Lite minimum; increase it only when the machine has memory to spare.
- Java for Minecraft 1.12.2: Select a Java executable that your 1.12.2 Forge installation supports. Do not assume the newest Java installed on the computer is correct. If several versions are present, point the start script directly at the intended executable.
- Writable storage: Extract the files into a normal local folder. On Windows, a path such as
C:MinecraftATM3LiteServeris preferable to a OneDrive or other cloud-synchronised folder. On Linux, the account running the server needs read, write, and execute permission for the directory and script. - Network access: Local play needs only the host computer. Friends on the same home network need the host’s private address. Players outside the home need router port forwarding and a reachable public IPv4 address.
- Matching clients: Install the same ATM3 Lite version on every client. A client using another pack version, Minecraft version, Forge version, or mod list can fail to connect even when the server itself starts.
Download the correct server pack
- Open the All the Mods 3 Lite project page on CurseForge.
- Choose Files, select the Minecraft 1.12.2 release, and open Additional Files.
- Download
ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0, the server-pack entry associated with the listed 3.2.0 release. - Save the ZIP locally and extract it into the dedicated server folder. Do not run a plain, unmodified Minecraft server JAR and then copy random client files into it; the supplied pack contains the Forge and mod configuration expected by ATM3 Lite.
Keep the ZIP as a clean backup. If an experiment later breaks the installation, you can extract a fresh copy rather than trying to reconstruct the original files.

Install and launch the server on Windows
1. Extract to a stable folder
Use a short path outside cloud-sync folders, for example C:MinecraftATM3LiteServer. The extracted directory should contain the pack’s scripts and configuration files, including startserver.bat. Do not place the files inside a read-only system directory.
2. Check which Java the script will use
Open Command Prompt and run java -version to see the default Java. That command only reports the first Java on your system path; it does not prove that it is suitable for Minecraft 1.12.2. If the output shows an incompatible release, install a compatible Java build and edit the supplied batch file or its JVM-argument file so the command uses the full path to that Java executable. A path containing spaces must be quoted, for example "C:PathToJavabinjava.exe".

3. Run the supplied installer
Double-click startserver.bat, or run it from Command Prompt while the current directory is the server folder. The first run installs or generates Forge and pack files, creates the world directory, and then normally stops because the EULA has not been accepted. Let the installer finish. Interrupting this first run can leave an incomplete installation that must be started over from a clean extraction.
4. Accept the Minecraft EULA
- Open the generated
eula.txtin a text editor. - Change
eula=falsetoeula=true. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
- Run
startserver.batagain.
Accepting the EULA is required before the dedicated server can remain running. The same first-launch and EULA sequence is used by CurseForge’s general server instructions.
5. Wait for a completed startup
Keep the console window open and wait for the message indicating that the dedicated server has loaded. Joining while Forge or the world is still loading can produce connection errors or make the first launch appear frozen when it is still processing files.

Install and launch on Linux
1. Extract and enter the directory
Extract the server ZIP into a directory owned by the account that will run Minecraft, then change into it. For example:
mkdir -p ~/servers/atm3lite
unzip ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0.zip -d ~/servers/atm3lite
cd ~/servers/atm3liteThe exact ZIP filename may differ if the downloaded file has been renamed. Preserve the pack’s internal directory structure.
2. Make the script executable
chmod +x startserver.shIf the script is not executable, run it through a shell only after checking its contents, or correct the directory permissions. The account also needs permission to create and modify files in the server directory.
3. Select the intended Java executable
Check the default with java -version. If the machine has multiple Java installations, edit the supplied script or JVM settings to use the compatible 1.12.2 Java path explicitly, such as /path/to/java/bin/java. This prevents a system-wide Java change from silently switching the pack to an unsuitable runtime.
4. Start, accept, and restart
./startserver.shAllow the first installer run to complete, edit eula.txt so it contains eula=true, and execute ./startserver.sh again. Leave the terminal session, service, or multiplexer running while players are connected; closing the process stops the server.

Set the JVM memory correctly
The pack’s JVM arguments normally include -Xms for startup heap and -Xmx for maximum heap. Edit the argument file or the supplied start script rather than creating a second set of conflicting flags. A six-gigabyte allocation is the broad AllTheMods guide baseline, so an example configuration is:

-Xmx6GUse a larger maximum only when the physical machine or hosting plan has unused memory after the operating system and other services are accounted for. Assigning nearly all available RAM can make the computer swap, stall, or become unresponsive. Conversely, a server that repeatedly reports out-of-memory errors or experiences severe lag needs more available heap, fewer concurrent players, or a larger host.
Change one variable at a time. Start the server, let the world load, and observe the console before adding extra performance arguments or altering Forge settings. The supplied script is the known-good starting point for this archived pack.
Configure the world and server files
Leave networking fields at their defaults initially
Open server.properties only after the unmodified pack starts. In normal installations, leave server-ip blank. The AllTheMods guide specifically warns that unnecessary edits to server-ip or server-port can prevent startup. Keep the default port 25565 unless you have a deliberate reason to change it, and if you do change it, forward and share the same port.
Import an existing world
Stop the server cleanly, copy the complete existing world folder into the server directory, and name that folder world. Make a backup before replacing the generated world. Start the server again and verify that the expected terrain, player inventories, and modded blocks are present before allowing everyone to play.

Keep client-only files off the server
Do not copy every file from a player’s client into the server’s mods folder. Client-only mods generally are not needed there and can prevent the server from working. Use the server pack’s supplied mod list; add a mod only when its documentation identifies it as server-compatible and all clients can install the matching version.

In Minecraft Java Edition, open Multiplayer, choose Add Server or Direct Connection, enter the appropriate address, and join only after the server console reports that it has loaded. Everyone must launch the same ATM3 Lite release, Minecraft 1.12.2, and compatible Forge/mod files.

- Give the server computer a stable private address, either by reserving it in the router’s DHCP settings or configuring a suitable static address.
- Open the router’s port-forwarding page. Create a rule for port
25565pointing to that private address. Use the protocol required by the router; a combined TCP/UDP option is acceptable when it is the only available choice. - Allow the Java server through the host operating system’s firewall when prompted. Limit the rule to the server port rather than disabling the firewall entirely.
- Start the server and test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. A test from inside the same LAN may fail on routers that do not support hairpin NAT even when outside players can connect.
- Give friends the public IPv4 address and port, not the private address shown by the host computer. Do not publish the address more widely than necessary.
If the router uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work because the home connection has no directly reachable public IPv4 address. In that case, use a managed host or another network solution that provides an externally reachable endpoint rather than repeatedly changing server-ip.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Running the server at home avoids a recurring hosting bill and gives you direct access to every file, but you are responsible for Java selection, RAM, backups, router configuration, uptime, power failures, and troubleshooting. A managed host removes much of the network and maintenance work and is useful when you do not want to expose a home machine. AllTheMods documents uploading extracted server files through FTP or SFTP, and many hosts offer one-click installers; either route still requires a host that supports this older pack.

For either option, retain a copy of the original server ZIP and a dated backup of the entire world folder. A host panel does not replace a backup you can download and restore yourself.
Troubleshoot the common failures
The server exits immediately or reports a Java error
Check which executable the script actually invokes, not merely the Java selected by your desktop launcher. Point the script to the Java build compatible with Minecraft 1.12.2, then start again. Remove duplicate or contradictory Java paths from the script so only one intended executable is used.

The server starts as vanilla Minecraft
You likely launched a plain server JAR or extracted the pack one directory too deep. Stop it, restore a clean extraction of ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0, and run startserver.bat or ./startserver.sh from the directory containing that script. Do not substitute a generic server JAR.
Players receive a mod-list or version mismatch
Compare the exact ATM3 Lite release, Minecraft version, Forge/modloader version, and mod files on the client and server. CurseForge notes that modloaders and game versions are compatibility constraints; matching only the pack’s name is not enough. Reinstall the client from the same 3.2.0 release if necessary, and remove client-only mods from the server.
The first launch never creates a usable server
Check that the first installer run was allowed to finish and that the directory is writable. On Linux, verify execute permission on startserver.sh. On Windows, move the folder out of a cloud-synchronised or protected location. Then extract a fresh copy and repeat the start/EULA sequence rather than mixing files from several attempts.
Changing server-ip stopped startup
Stop the process and restore a blank server-ip. In normal cases the server binds correctly without a value there. Players should use localhost, the host’s LAN address, or the public address created by router forwarding; those addresses do not belong in server-ip.

The server runs out of memory or lags badly
Inspect the current -Xms and -Xmx values, confirm that the host has enough physical memory, and check whether another process is consuming it. If the heap is already at the guide’s baseline, move to a machine or plan with more available memory, reduce the number of simultaneous players, and avoid adding unverified mods. Severe lag can also come from a slow host, disk contention, or network latency, so check the console while the problem occurs.
Friends cannot connect from the internet
Verify the server is running, the router forwards port 25565 to the correct private address, the host firewall permits Java, and friends are using the public IPv4 address. Test from a genuinely external network. If the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound traffic, port forwarding alone cannot make the home server public.

Connect locally with localhost, on a LAN with the host’s private address, or remotely through router port 25565. If maintaining Java, backups, and networking is not practical, upload the same extracted files to a managed host only after confirming support for this older 1.12.2 release.
