To loop a prerecorded video into YouTube Live from an Indian VPS, create a live event, copy its RTMPS URL and stream key, make the video available to FFmpeg, and run FFmpeg in real time with looping enabled. Then verify the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. The command below is an adaptable starting point, not a tested or officially endorsed configuration; use the exact endpoint shown for your event.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that can create the live event you intend to use.
- An Indian VPS with the video file on disk, enough CPU if you will transcode, and sustained outbound capacity for the stream.
- An FFmpeg build with the required video and audio encoders and RTMPS protocol support.
- The event’s current RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room.
The available YouTube and FFmpeg documentation does not establish a universal CPU, memory, bandwidth plan, or VPS provider recommendation for this job. Choose a VPS based on the actual media and encoding workload, and check its transfer allowance, overage terms, and sustained upload capability rather than relying on an advertised port speed alone.

1. Create a YouTube Live event and copy its credentials
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream.
- Under Stream settings, reveal and copy the RTMPS URL. YouTube may initially display an ordinary RTMP URL; ensure the selected destination begins with
rtmps. - Copy the stream key separately. Use the credentials for this event, not an old or unrelated key.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, “a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol” (YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions). Treat the key as a publishing credential: do not expose it in screenshots, public shell transcripts, source control, or support requests.

Install an FFmpeg build suitable for your operating system and check that the video file exists, is readable by the account that will run FFmpeg, and contains the expected audio and video streams. FFmpeg’s available protocols and encoders depend on how the installed build was configured; inspect them with ffmpeg -protocols and ffmpeg -encoders. The build must support the codecs and RTMPS connection used by your command. See the FFmpeg protocol documentation.

Re-encoding makes FFmpeg convert the source to the output profile and can put substantial load on the VPS CPU, depending on codec, resolution, frame rate, and preset. Copying the source streams instead may reduce encoding work, but is suitable only when the media’s codecs and parameters work for the intended YouTube stream. Check the actual file and test the workload; no cited guidance establishes a minimum VPS size.
3. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
YouTube’s current guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For a compatibility-first setup, H.264 video with AAC audio is a reasonable starting choice. YouTube can detect resolution and frame rate automatically; manual settings are available with a custom stream key. Its listed SDR color recommendation is Rec. 709.

| Example output | YouTube H.264 video bitrate recommendation |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not independent VPS performance results. The stream’s total outbound rate includes audio as well as video, and the VPS needs practical headroom for protocol overhead and network variation. YouTube lists stereo AAC audio at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. Match the output to the source and intended stream profile; do not upscale or select a higher frame rate without a reason.

Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide specifies an RTMPS connection using port 443 and SNI with the server hostname. For a VPS decision, verify sustainable upload to the actual YouTube ingest, outbound TLS/RTMPS access, included transfer and overage policy, and CPU headroom if transcoding. The available sources do not establish Indian-provider benchmarks, plan prices, or guarantees.

4. Start an illustrative FFmpeg loop
This example re-encodes toward a 720p30 H.264/AAC profile. Adapt it to your file, chosen output, installed FFmpeg build, and YouTube event. It is an illustrative command, not one published or tested by YouTube or FFmpeg:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "/path/to/video.mp4" \
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 6M -maxrate 6M -bufsize 12M \
-pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 \
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 \
-f flv "rtmps://HOST/PATH/STREAM_KEY"
Replace the destination with the exact RTMPS endpoint and key format provided for your event. Never publish a real key or leave one in a public, shared command history. In a production setup, restrict access to wherever you store credentials.

The sample assumes a usable video and audio stream and does not scale the picture. If the file has no audio, multiple tracks, a different frame rate, or dimensions that do not match your chosen output, inspect its streams and adjust mapping, scaling, and encoding rather than copying the command unchanged. Confirm the installed build has libx264, AAC, and RTMPS support.

5. Confirm YouTube is receiving a healthy stream
- Start the event in Live Control Room and run FFmpeg. Read its output for input, stream mapping, encoder, and connection errors.
- Check the YouTube preview and stream-health state; a running FFmpeg process alone does not prove YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Listen to and watch a representative sample. YouTube advises testing with movement and audio similar to the intended broadcast, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event.
For a long-running loop, a process supervisor and alerting can help restart the process or notify an operator after failure. Reconnect behavior and continuity vary with the FFmpeg build and VPS, so test recovery on your actual setup rather than assuming a restart will be seamless.

Troubleshooting common connection and playback problems
| Symptom | Checks and likely fixes |
|---|---|
| SSL or certificate error | Confirm you copied the event’s exact RTMPS endpoint, not an RTMP URL; check the TLS and RTMPS support in your FFmpeg build and the required port 443/SNI behavior. |
| Connection timeout | Recheck the endpoint, hostname, port, SNI behavior, and VPS outbound firewall or egress rules. Confirm the build supports RTMPS. A successful outbound TCP connection does not by itself confirm that YouTube ingest is correctly configured. |
| FFmpeg runs but YouTube preview or health is poor | Check the event’s stream-health messages and preview, confirm the output profile and bitrate, and test with representative movement and audio. Verify sustained VPS upload with room for overhead and variation. |
| No sound, wrong track, or invalid stream mapping | Inspect the input’s audio and video streams. The example expects usable audio; adjust mapping and audio options for the actual file, or remove audio encoding options if there is no audio. |
| Loop does not repeat as expected | Confirm the input path is readable and that -stream_loop -1 is placed before the relevant input. Test with the same FFmpeg build and file used for the broadcast. |
| VPS CPU stays busy or output stutters | Check whether FFmpeg is re-encoding, and measure resource use at the chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, and preset. Consider a compatible stream-copy workflow or a VPS with more suitable compute; do not assume stream copy works without checking source compatibility. |
Choosing an Indian VPS for a continuous stream
Compare the actual VPS plans against the workload instead of choosing by country or headline network-port speed alone. No provider or plan is ranked here because the cited sources do not establish provider-specific performance or terms.
- Sustained upload: capacity to the YouTube ingest, with margin above the combined audio and video bitrate.
- Transfer policy: included monthly transfer, fair-use terms, and costs for any overage during continuous outbound streaming.
- Compute: observed CPU use for the codec, resolution, and frame rate if transcoding.
- Network access: outbound RTMPS/TLS on port 443 and stable routing from the specific VPS region.
- Storage and operations: disk space for media and logs, plus a practical way to monitor and restart FFmpeg.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you prefer not to maintain a VPS and FFmpeg process, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping on YouTube from the cloud. The setup is: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not require a computer or home connection to stay on.
