In the live chat or Live Control Room, open the goal controls and choose the Super Chat goal option shown by YouTube’s current interface. An always-on stream does not require special hardware for the goal, and YouTube’s published guidance does not confirm that a goal survives a stream interruption or restart.
Before you start
Super Chat goals are an in-platform YouTube feature: viewer Super Chats can count toward a shared milestone. YouTube recommends explaining the milestone, making clear that Supers are enabled, and acknowledging supporters. YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers tips describe goals as a way to rally a community around a milestone and a celebratory moment.
- Confirm live-stream access. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days to stream. Feature eligibility requirements may also apply. See YouTube’s live-streaming prerequisites.
- Check Super Chat availability. The channel must be eligible for Super Chat, and the feature must be enabled. If it is unavailable, resolve channel eligibility or monetization settings before planning a goal.
- Have the broadcast running. YouTube says goals become available after the stream begins. You cannot rely on configuring the goal in advance while the broadcast is still offline.
Set up the Super Chat goal while live
- Start your YouTube live stream. Use your usual broadcast method and wait until the stream is live.
- Open the goal controls. Look in the live chat or the Live Control Room for the goals interface. YouTube’s current guidance lists Super Chat goals across horizontal live streams and Premieres, and says goals are available on desktop and mobile live streams, including mobile vertical streams. The precise controls can vary with the current interface.
- Choose the Super Chat goal option. Follow the option presented in the live interface. YouTube’s detailed numbered setup instructions are for gift goals, not a separately documented Super Chat form, so do not assume that gift-goal fields or steps apply unchanged.
- Enter the goal details YouTube presents and start the goal. Use the live interface’s fields and confirm the displayed goal. Explain to viewers what milestone they are helping reach and how you intend to acknowledge it.
- Check the viewer-facing display. Confirm that the goal appears as intended before directing viewers to it. YouTube cautions that purchases toward a live goal do not guarantee that the goal will be reached or that a celebration will occur.
YouTube’s goals guidance says only one goal may run at a time and that another can be started after the current goal is reached. Because the stated limit appears in gift-goal guidance, verify what the current interface permits for Super Chat goals rather than treating the gift-specific instructions as a confirmed Super Chat rule. What changes on an always-on stream?
“Always-on” describes how you operate the broadcast; YouTube’s goal instructions do not describe a special persistent-goal mode for streams that run indefinitely. They establish when goals become available, but do not say whether a Super Chat goal resumes after an encoder disconnect, stream restart, or newly created broadcast. Treat persistence as unconfirmed.

- If the stream disconnects, check the Live Control Room and the viewer-facing goal display when the broadcast returns.
- If you restart or recreate the broadcast, inspect the goal state before telling viewers that earlier progress carried over.
- Do not promise that a goal will continue across interruptions unless the live interface confirms it.
Choose a broadcast method for the stream, not the goal
YouTube supports several ways to go live, including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. An encoder can suit a more complex production, but it is not a requirement for creating a Super Chat goal.
