Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a prerecorded YouTube stream in India, choose a cloud VM by its included outbound data transfer first, then check its region, total bill and whether your video can stream without re-encoding. DigitalOcean’s published Basic Droplet options include a $4/month plan with 500 GiB of transfer and a $12/month plan with 2,000 GiB; the latter lists 1 vCPU and 2 GiB RAM. Those figures do not prove either plan is the cheapest after India-specific taxes, exchange rates, IPv4 and overage charges—or that its network route to YouTube will perform best.
If you want a managed alternative rather than maintaining a VM and encoder, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud. It is StreamNeo, and it comes first among the managed options here because it keeps a stream running from the cloud at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
What makes a cloud VM low-cost for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
The monthly VM sticker price is only one part of the cost. A continuously running stream sends data out for the entire time it is live, so the plan’s included outbound transfer and excess-transfer rates can matter more than its CPU price. Also check the VM’s region, IPv4 charges, taxes, exchange rate and current availability before choosing.
DigitalOcean’s official Basic Droplet pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists these two entry-level examples. These are provider-published prices and specifications, not independent performance measurements.

| DigitalOcean Basic plan | Published specifications | Transfer included | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| $4/month | 1 vCPU, 512 MiB RAM, 10 GiB SSD | 500 GiB | Whether your stream’s calculated monthly transfer fits, plus location, overage and other billable items. |
| $12/month | 1 vCPU, 2 GiB RAM, 50 GiB SSD | 2,000 GiB | Whether its allowance covers your chosen bitrate and whether the current all-in cost suits you. |
Both plan figures come from DigitalOcean’s pricing page. A low-cost option on paper is not necessarily the lowest-cost option for an Indian channel: the reviewed figures do not establish India-specific tax, currency conversion, IP address or overage totals.
How much outbound bandwidth does a 24/7 stream use?
Estimate transfer from the bitrate actually sent and the time the VM streams. For a 30-day month, the approximate decimal transfer is bitrate in Mbps × 324 GB. This is a calculation based on continuous runtime; it excludes protocol overhead and any additional traffic.

| Continuous bitrate | Approximate transfer over 30 days | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Mbps | 648 GB decimal | Already above the 500 GiB allowance on the cited $4 plan. |
| 4 Mbps | 1,296 GB decimal | Below the cited 2,000 GiB allowance, but confirm actual traffic and plan terms. |
| 10 Mbps | 3,240 GB decimal | More than the cited 2,000 GiB allowance. |
| 12 Mbps | 3,888 GB decimal | More than the cited 2,000 GiB allowance. |
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends an H.264 bitrate of 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. These are YouTube recommendations, not a requirement to use those rates for every compatible prerecorded file. Use the bitrate your streaming workflow actually sends when estimating transfer, then compare it with the provider’s allowance and overage terms.
GiB and GB are different units: providers commonly state transfer in GiB, while the estimates above use decimal GB. Treat the arithmetic as a planning estimate, not a bill forecast. Data sent by multiple outputs or other services on the VM may also count toward the plan’s transfer.

Do you need a large VM or continuous video encoding?
Not necessarily. If the prerecorded file already matches the format and settings you intend to send to YouTube, a workflow that passes it through without re-encoding can reduce the VM’s CPU workload. If you change its resolution, codec or bitrate, the encoder must do more work. Multiple simultaneous outputs can also increase CPU and memory needs.
There is no verified universal minimum VM size for this use. Confirm that your file and streaming workflow are compatible, then test on the VM with representative content. A small VM is a candidate only if it handles the actual stream without re-encoding or overload; a low price alone does not establish that it will.

What YouTube settings should you use?
YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS ingestion and lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 video, plus AAC or MP3 audio, among its supported encoder formats. Its guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, with intervals no longer than four seconds. YouTube says, “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” See the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions guidance for the applicable settings and format details.
- Check the video file. Identify its resolution, frame rate, codec, audio format and bitrate. Decide whether your streaming workflow can send it as-is or must re-encode it.
- Set the encoder to match the stream. Use a supported video and audio format. Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, ensuring it does not exceed four seconds. Select a bitrate appropriate for the resolution and frame rate; YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60.
- Use a stream key and the server details shown in YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or put it in a public script or log. Use RTMPS when your encoder and ingestion endpoint support it.
- Run a representative test before relying on the stream. Include the audio and motion patterns in your actual content. YouTube advises, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Check YouTube’s stream health and the VM’s CPU and network use during the test.
- Check again after changing settings. A higher bitrate increases transfer use; re-encoding can increase CPU load. Recalculate bandwidth and retest stream health when you change bitrate, resolution, frame rate or the file-processing workflow.
How should you compare VM providers for India?
The available provider figures do not identify a best cloud region or network route for Indian creators. A provider’s nearest advertised location does not, by itself, establish the route’s quality to YouTube ingestion. Check current region availability and measure from the actual VM to the ingestion endpoint you will use before claiming a latency or reliability advantage.

The reviewed materials do not provide an apples-to-apples current price comparison across other cloud VM providers, nor an independent India-specific benchmark. Do not infer a universal provider winner from the DigitalOcean figures alone.
What can go wrong, and how do you diagnose it?
| Symptom | Likely cause to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Stream stops or becomes unstable | VM or encoder process stopped, network interruption, or the YouTube ingestion connection was dropped. | Check YouTube stream health, encoder logs and VM network status; restart the workflow if needed and repeat a representative test. |
| VM CPU stays high or frames are missed | The workflow is re-encoding, settings changed, or the VM is handling multiple outputs. | Check whether the source can be sent without re-encoding. If not, test an appropriate VM size and monitor resource use at the intended settings. |
| Transfer approaches its allowance | The actual bitrate or other outbound traffic is higher than budgeted. | Recalculate from the bitrate being sent and continuous runtime; inspect provider usage and overage terms before the allowance is exhausted. |
| YouTube reports connection or format trouble | Unsupported or mismatched encoder settings, stream key/server details, or unstable network path. | Verify the settings against YouTube’s current guidance, check the key and endpoint in YouTube Studio, and test again while monitoring stream health. |
Should you manage a VM or use managed cloud playout?
A VM gives you control over the operating system and streaming workflow, but you must configure and maintain it, monitor the process and account for outbound transfer. Managed cloud playout trades some of that control for a service that handles the always-on playback workflow. Compare total cost for the term, storage, number of outputs, file and quality limits, recovery behavior, support and how you can retrieve your files if you leave.
For an always-on prerecorded YouTube stream, StreamNeo is the managed alternative to try first: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only; it is not a camera-live service. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The product is the same across plans; only the billing term changes.
StreamNeo’s listed billing options are: Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. India-based customers can pay by UPI or card; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
StreamSetu is another managed-service option with prepaid channel and storage plans; its pricing page says 18% GST is added. Verify its current prices, terms and service claims directly before comparing it with a VM or another managed service. Vendor statements about reliability are not independent performance findings.
