You can usually turn on a Sony BRAVIA with the TV’s physical button, but that may not let you finish setup: Sony says HOME and arrow navigation are available only on the supplied remote. Start by checking your exact model’s controls, then try a supported USB keyboard for Wi-Fi password entry or Ethernet to skip the Wi-Fi screen. Phone apps work only when the TV meets their model, network, account, and pairing requirements. If you cannot navigate the remaining screens, use a replacement remote compatible with your model.
Before you begin, find the exact model
BRAVIA button placement and available controls vary by model and operating system. Find the model number on the TV, then open its Sony support page and Help Guide before trying a workaround. Sony’s US guidance says some models provide power, volume, or input controls on the TV itself, but HOME and arrow buttons are only on the supplied remote. Press the TV’s physical power/control button to turn it on. If a welcome or language screen appears but you cannot move the selection or confirm it, consult the model’s guide for the button’s behavior; repeated presses are not a dependable substitute for remote navigation.

Sony’s documented first-time setup flow proceeds through language and privacy choices before network setup. Whether you can make those selections without a remote depends on the controls available on your set.

Use a USB keyboard for Wi-Fi password entry
Sony’s setup instructions describe an optional USB keyboard for entering the Wi-Fi password. Its general keyboard connection guidance is for Android TV devices, so check that your model and operating system support it. The instructions establish password entry—not that a keyboard replaces every remote function, including HOME, arrows, and confirmation. Connect Ethernet to skip the Wi-Fi screen
If the TV supports a wired network connection, connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable. Sony says the Wi-Fi screen is skipped in the documented setup flow when the TV uses a wired connection. This avoids entering a Wi-Fi password, but it does not guarantee that you can navigate the other setup screens without a remote. Sony: Initial setup and network settings

Skip network setup only if you can select the option
Sony’s setup flow allows network configuration to be postponed. That may get you past the network step if the TV’s available controls let you select the option; it will not resolve a later screen that requires unavailable navigation.
Use a phone app only if the TV is ready to pair
Sony documents Sony | BRAVIA Connect and the Google TV app as control options, but supported TV models differ. Both routes require the phone and TV to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Sony’s instructions also require a Google Account logged in on the TV, and Google TV app pairing requires entering a code displayed on the TV. These prerequisites make phone apps most useful when the TV has already joined the network and completed enough setup to pair. They are not a guaranteed way to configure a new TV from scratch when Wi-Fi or account access is not yet available.
Choose the workaround that fits your situation

When to get a replacement remote
If the TV’s controls cannot navigate setup, a keyboard cannot perform the needed action, and an app cannot pair, a replacement remote matched to the exact model is the practical route. Sony’s guidance for missing remotes notes that some operations may be unavailable and directs users to model-specific information and replacement parts or accessories. Do not factory-reset the TV just because the remote is missing
A reset is not a general remote workaround. Sony’s cited forced-reset procedure is specifically for BRAVIA 3 (S30), and the procedure deletes accounts, downloaded apps, and network settings.
