You can try PS5 emulation on a PC with KytyPS5, an experimental emulator for Windows and Linux, with experimental macOS support. It can boot some 2D and 3D games, but a boot is not proof that a game is playable from start to finish. Check the specific game’s compatibility entry and the tested emulator build before setting up. KytyPS5’s official project and releases are at GitHub.
What you need to run a PS5 emulator on PC
KytyPS5’s stated baseline is a 64-bit x86 processor, a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers, and Windows 10 version 1803 or a current Linux distribution. Windows and Linux are the project’s primary, most-tested platforms. macOS support is experimental: the project describes an x86-64 build running on Apple Silicon through Rosetta 2, with Vulkan provided by MoltenVK. A small number of titles have been verified in-game on Apple Silicon; that does not establish broad Mac compatibility. See the official requirements.

These are the project’s listed baseline requirements, not a guarantee that a particular game will run well. The official materials do not establish universal frame rates or a reliable aggregate count of playable games.

- Check the game first. Open KytyPS5’s compatibility list from its official project page and look up the exact title. Note the emulator build associated with the result: compatibility can change between versions.
- Confirm your PC and drivers. Check that your operating system, 64-bit processor, and GPU meet the baseline above. Update your graphics drivers before troubleshooting rendering problems.
- Download a release build. Use the official KytyPS5 repository and its Releases section to get a prebuilt archive for your platform. The repository also describes building from source; its CMake, Ninja, compiler, Qt 6 launcher, and platform-library dependencies are for developers, not ordinary users installing a release.
- Extract and open the launcher. Start the launcher included with the extracted release for your platform.
- Add your game folder. In the GUI’s global settings, add one or more folders where your legally obtained game files are stored. The launcher searches recursively for game directories containing
eboot.bin. Select a detected game to launch it. - Alternatively, launch from the command line. KytyPS5 accepts a legally obtained game directory, ELF file, or ZArchive dump. The documented form is
kyty_emulator --game <path>, replacing<path>with the relevant path. A ZArchive (.zar) whose archive root containseboot.bincan be mounted read-only without extraction.
Do you need PS5 firmware or extra emulation modules?
KytyPS5’s maintainers state that “External low-level emulation modules are neither required nor planned.” Do not follow firmware or module steps written for another emulator and assume they apply here. KytyPS5 does not distribute games or copyrighted system software; use only legally obtained game files. The project’s statement is not a jurisdiction-specific legal ruling.

What to expect from compatibility and performance
KytyPS5 says it boots 2D titles and a selection of 3D titles. That does not mean every listed title is stable or playable through completion. The maintainers warn: “Compatibility, stability, and performance can vary between versions.” Check the entry for the exact game and its tested build rather than relying on a general claim that a game “works.”
Crashes, rendering glitches, and inconsistent performance are possible. The official materials do not provide a dependable, dated overall compatibility count or performance benchmark, so there is no sound basis for promising a particular frame rate or success rate.

Troubleshoot a failed launch or graphics problem
- The game does not appear in the launcher: Check that you added the folder containing the game and that its game directory includes
eboot.bin. For a ZArchive, the archive root must contain that file. - The game fails to boot or behaves differently than expected: Check its compatibility entry and compare the tested build with the release you installed.
- You see rendering problems: Update your GPU drivers, then check the compatibility information for the title and build.
- You report a bug: Include the KytyPS5 version and the complete log so the issue has useful version context.
Is shadPS4 a PS5 emulator?
No. shadPS4 is a PlayStation 4 emulator; its quickstart guide is not PS5 setup guidance.
