Enable it on a product page or add its shortcode to a page or post. The core Checkout block is a separate feature: it provides checkout, but does not itself combine product selection with checkout.
Choose the checkout setup that matches your goal
| Option | What it does | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| One Page Checkout extension | Displays product selection and checkout together on a product, post, or page. | You want shoppers to choose products and check out in one place. |
| Core Checkout block | Provides the checkout flow on the store’s assigned Checkout page. | You want to configure or edit the checkout page, but do not need product selection on that page. |
The extension’s setup and compatibility details are documented in WooCommerce One Page Checkout documentation. Core Checkout block setup is covered in WooCommerce’s Cart and Checkout block guide.

Add checkout to an individual product page
- Install and activate the One Page Checkout extension.
- In WordPress admin, open Products and edit the product.
- In the product’s Product data panel, enable One Page Checkout.
- Save the product, then preview the page as a shopper and test adding the product and completing checkout.
The product page will include a checkout form. Adding the product can increase its quantity in the form rather than sending the shopper to the ordinary checkout page. Items already in the cart can also appear there.

- Create or edit the WordPress page or post where you want the checkout experience.
- Add the shortcode and choose the products to display. For example:
[woocommerce_one_page_checkout product_ids="123,456" template="product-list"] - Replace
123,456with IDs of products that exist and are in stock in your store. - Choose a template with the optional
templateattribute, then save or publish the page. - Test the page using the store’s actual theme, products, payment gateway, and extensions.
WooCommerce documents four built-in product-selection templates: product-list, product-table, product-single, and pricing-table. The Classic Editor offers a graphical shortcode interface when the Classic Editor plugin is installed; in the newer editor, enter the shortcode manually. Only one One Page Checkout shortcode works on a page. Products that do not exist or are out of stock will not appear for selection.

Use the core Checkout block when you only need a checkout page
The Checkout block does not add product selection to the page. To use it, add the block to a page and assign that page as the store’s checkout page under WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced. WooCommerce says stores started on version 8.3 or later use Cart and Checkout blocks by default. Compatibility varies: an incompatible extension may prompt a switch to Classic Checkout, and an incompatible payment gateway may not appear. Check the compatibility of your gateway and extensions before relying on block checkout.
For a block theme, edit the Checkout template at Appearance > Editor > Templates > WooCommerce. With a non-block theme, edit the Checkout page under Pages. WooCommerce also documents how to revert to Classic Checkout if needed. See its Cart and Checkout blocks compatibility guidance.

One Page Checkout does not replace the store’s ordinary Checkout page. WooCommerce says that page remains in use for receipts and order confirmation, and some gateways or extensions may depend on the standard Cart and Checkout pages. Keep the regular Checkout page configured even if shoppers start their purchase on a separate one-page checkout page.

Check compatibility before launch
- Review the One Page Checkout extension’s tested integrations and confirm they match your chosen template and store setup.
- Do not assume every product add-on works: WooCommerce lists the Product Add-Ons File Upload field as unsupported.
- If you use a custom product-selection template, test it carefully. WooCommerce warns that custom templates reduce out-of-the-box compatibility.
- Test payment behavior with the exact checkout type you intend to use. The extension guide says gateways using WooCommerce’s normal payment section should work; the separate Checkout block guidance warns that incompatible gateways may not appear.
- Preview with in-stock and out-of-stock products, and verify that the products displayed and order confirmation behave as expected.
When a custom template is necessary
The four built-in templates cover common product-selection layouts. A custom template requires creating a template file in the active theme’s /woocommerce/checkout/ directory, rendering the products, and registering the template with the wcopc_templates filter. WooCommerce’s guide treats this as developer work requiring familiarity with HTML, CSS, and WooCommerce templating.
WooCommerce’s documentation explains how to configure One Page Checkout and build custom templates. The documentation describes setup and compatibility, not a measured conversion lift, so results will depend on the store and should not be assumed.
