1. Complete the setup wizard
Power on the phone and follow the prompts. Nothing Support’s “How to set-up my Nothing Phone” says: “When you power on the phone, follow the on-screen setup wizard.” The wizard guides you through choices such as language, connecting to Wi-Fi or mobile service, inserting a SIM if needed, and optionally transferring data from an old device.

Use Wi-Fi or mobile service during setup if you plan to transfer data. If you are not ready to copy content, you can proceed without the transfer and review the choices presented on screen. The precise prompts can differ by device and software version.

2. Prepare before transferring data
For a move from another Android phone, Nothing recommends having both phones charged, a charging cable available, and a good Wi-Fi connection. Its Android transfer guidance also says to connect to Wi-Fi or mobile service during setup. Check that the cable suits both devices before beginning.

Follow the transfer options shown by the setup wizard. Where offered, choose which content to copy rather than assuming everything must move. Keep the old phone available until you have checked that the content you rely on is present on the Nothing Phone.
3. Choose which notifications appear
After setup, review notification access app by app. Nothing’s support guidance describes app-level notification controls and a shortcut from the notification shade; labels and routes vary between models and Nothing OS versions. Keep alerts enabled for apps where timely messages or calls matter, and adjust less important apps individually instead of switching off all notifications.
For messaging apps, turning notifications off can delay when you notice new messages. If an app offers separate controls for sounds, banners or other alert types, use those to reduce interruptions while retaining the alerts you need.

4. Decide what the lock screen reveals
Review the lock-screen privacy option for notification previews. Nothing’s how-to guidance points to settings for choosing whether notification content is shown on the lock screen. If messages may contain private information, choose a preview setting that hides their contents while the phone is locked. Available choices and their names depend on the model and software version.
5. Check for a system update
Nothing says an available update may be announced by notification, and that you can also check manually in Settings. The menu path differs across Nothing’s support articles and device generations, so look in the system or software update area of your phone’s Settings rather than relying on one universal path.

Before installing, follow Nothing’s OTA update guidance: use stable Wi-Fi, have at least 50% battery or keep the phone connected to a charger, and back up important data. The 50% figure is Nothing Support Centre’s stated procedural recommendation; it is not a battery-life claim.

Nothing’s broad, multi-generation support how-to guidance says Find My Phone is automatically enabled after you add a Google account, while location access depends on location settings. Check the current Google account and location-related settings on your own device to confirm the available service and its status; exact menu names and behavior can vary by model and software version.

7. Protect the phone and avoid unnecessary heat
Nothing recommends using a protective case and a compliant charging and data cable. Choose a case made for your exact Nothing Phone model, and check cable suitability for your device. The company also advises avoiding heat and not using the phone while it is charging. These are manufacturer care recommendations, not a guarantee of improved battery life.
