Before you start: check channel and cloud PC readiness
Confirm YouTube live-stream eligibility
Verify your YouTube channel, enable live streaming, and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this before you plan to go live. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

Check the Windows cloud PC on the actual instance
OBS lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 as supported, with a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements. Meeting those requirements does not guarantee that a particular machine can stream successfully. Performance depends on the cloud PC’s encoder support and capacity, the selected resolution and frame rate, scene complexity, and network conditions. Check the provider’s current plan and test OBS on the instance you intend to use; no provider-specific performance or availability can be assumed. See OBS system requirements.

Also check how the provider handles restarts, updates, remote sessions, persistent files, and access to audio devices. In a remote Windows session, the sources and devices visible in OBS may differ from those on a local PC. Confirm that your video, audio, scenes, and settings remain available after a disconnect or restart.

Install OBS and prepare the stream scene
Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard

Install OBS Studio on the Windows cloud PC and open it.

If the Auto-Configuration Wizard does not appear on first launch, open Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard.

Choose the option for streaming and follow the prompts. The wizard considers intended use, computer resources, and network conditions; treat its result as a starting point, not proof the instance can sustain a 24/7 stream.

For prerecorded video, add the media source or sources you need and arrange them in the scene. For a playlist or continuous sequence, verify the source behavior and transitions you intend to use. Add other sources only if the stream needs them. OBS’s Quick Start Guide covers the initial setup and test workflow.
Check video and audio sources

Confirm that the media plays in the OBS preview and that the correct scene is active.

Watch the audio meters while the video plays. Select the intended audio devices manually if the expected source is not available.

Check what the cloud provider exposes through its remote session. Do not assume a local microphone, desktop audio device, or other hardware input is available on the cloud PC.

Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS

Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you want to broadcast.

In the stream’s encoder settings, copy the stream URL and stream key.

In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details. If the service setup offers an account connection, follow the on-screen flow; otherwise use the stream URL and key copied from YouTube.

Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not share it or show it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube before continuing.

Review the event controls in YouTube. Choose latency based on the interaction delay you can accept, DVR based on whether viewers should be able to rewind, and auto-start or auto-stop based on whether the encoder should control when the event begins or ends.

Set a bitrate and resolution the cloud PC can sustain
Choose settings for the actual machine and network, not just the highest quality option. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance gives these bitrate values:

These are YouTube’s published H.264 settings, not a guarantee that a given cloud PC or connection can hold them continuously. YouTube lists separate recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC; check its encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions if you plan to use either codec.
Use conservative encoder settings first

Use constant bitrate (CBR) and set the keyframe interval to two seconds; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.

Use RTMPS where supported by the encoder and stream endpoint.

Pick a resolution and frame rate that the cloud PC’s encoder can handle while the stream is active. If capacity is uncertain, begin at a lower output and test before raising it.

Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% above the streaming bitrate and says available upload capacity should cover the primary stream, any backup stream, and headroom. Measure sustained capacity on the cloud instance rather than relying on a short peak result.

Enter the chosen output values in OBS under Settings > Output and Settings > Video. The exact encoder options shown depend on the encoder available on the cloud PC. If the selected encoder cannot keep up, lower the output demands or use another supported encoder.

Test representative motion and audio, not only a static frame or silent opening. Check that the image is smooth, sound is present, and the intended media continues to play.

Verify that the event opens from the channel or watch page and can be viewed on a mobile device.

Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and OBS’s connection status during the test. Confirm the cloud PC’s encoding and network remain stable for a meaningful period; a short successful test does not establish round-the-clock reliability.

If you are keeping a local recording, confirm the archive file grows and can be opened. This also checks that the chosen storage location is writable and persistent enough for your use.
YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips recommend testing the event and checking the preview, stream health, and archive. For a continuous broadcast, repeat these checks periodically; the sources do not prescribe a specific monitoring interval.
Plan for disconnects and recovery
OBS has an automatic reconnect option. Enable and configure it in Settings > Advanced, then test what happens if the connection drops. Reconnect helps OBS attempt recovery; it does not guarantee uninterrupted broadcasting or that every failure will resume correctly.

A wired-network recommendation can apply when the local connection is Wi-Fi, but cloud-PC users may not control the provider’s network route. After a reconnect, check OBS, the Live Control Room preview, and stream health to confirm the event is actually sending again. See OBS stream connection troubleshooting and YouTube’s streaming tips.
Common symptoms and fixes
