You can stream prerecorded gameplay as a YouTube Live broadcast without leaving a gaming PC running: prepare footage you have the rights to rebroadcast, create or schedule a YouTube event, give a cloud encoder the event’s stream URL and key, then check its preview and stream health before and after launch. The encoder sends the feed; YouTube hosts the watchable event.
What you need before setup
- Gameplay recordings you own or are authorized to rebroadcast. A game recording is not automatically cleared for every use: publisher policies, in-game music and other third-party material may have separate rights. Check the applicable terms before streaming.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the planned broadcast.
- A cloud encoder that accepts prerecorded video and can send a continuous feed to YouTube. You do not need OBS, a capture card or a gaming PC for a cloud-only rerun workflow; those may be useful for local production or capture, but are not requirements for replaying prepared files.
- A stable output configuration supported by both the service and YouTube. Test with representative gameplay motion and audio, not just a static screen.
Understand the YouTube event and encoder feed
A YouTube broadcast is the distinct video event viewers watch. A stream is the audio-video feed and settings sent by the encoder. Google’s Live Streaming API guide, last updated 2026-09-14 UTC, describes the two separately; one stream can be reused across broadcasts at different times, and the API documentation describes binding one stream to up to three broadcasts. For a normal creator workflow, follow the cloud provider’s current scheduling and event-connection flow rather than assuming every service supports the same reuse behavior. Set up the rerun in YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming in advance. If this is your first live broadcast, start activation early; YouTube says it may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule a broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one for later. Select the appropriate privacy setting—public, private or unlisted—and choose Gaming as the stream type when applicable. Scheduling lets an upcoming event appear to subscribers, subject to YouTube’s current interface and channel settings.
- Copy the connection details. In the event’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your cloud encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the feed. If you believe it was exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace the saved key in the encoder. You can use a custom stream key if you want a reusable connection, but confirm the intended stream settings each time.
- Configure output settings. Select a resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, keyframe interval and audio format the provider supports. The YouTube recommendations below are ingestion guidance, not a guarantee that any particular cloud plan or source file can sustain them.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Start sending the file or playlist from the cloud service. In the scheduled-stream workflow, YouTube’s encoder guide describes waiting for a preview and using Go live. The exact launch sequence can differ if auto-start or auto-stop options are enabled, so check the current Live Control Room controls for that event.
- Monitor after launch. Check YouTube’s stream health and the cloud service’s playback status. Confirm video, sound and the correct event are live, then keep an eye out for a dropped connection or playback stopping.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing before going live and matching output quality to a reliable delivery path. In Live Control Room workflows, set resolution, frame rate and bitrate in the encoder; YouTube detects the selected settings and transcodes for viewer devices. Choose bitrate and other encoder settings
YouTube’s encoder recommendations at the time of this article specify RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265 or AV1 video; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds; and AAC or MP3 audio. Choose a target the cloud service supports and that fits the actual source. A 60 fps setting cannot add frames absent from the recording, and a higher resolution cannot restore detail that was not captured. YouTube recommends testing with similar motion and audio because fast gameplay can expose problems that a menu or static test image will not.
Set viewer experience options for a rerun
Latency
Low latency is most useful when a creator needs to respond to viewers in real time. YouTube warns that lower latency can increase playback buffering; for prerecorded gameplay without live interaction, a more stable viewing experience may matter more than minimizing delay.

DVR
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live broadcast. Decide whether that behavior suits the rerun and check the event’s current settings before launch.
Privacy and scheduling
Confirm the event’s visibility and schedule in Live Control Room. A scheduled stream, an unlisted test and a public broadcast serve different audiences; avoid assuming that the encoder’s start button alone determines who can watch or when the event becomes visible.

Cloud options for a continuous gaming rerun

Troubleshoot common rerun problems
YouTube does not show a preview
- Check that the cloud encoder is actually sending and that its stream URL and key match the intended YouTube event.
- Confirm live streaming has been enabled on the channel; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Review the provider’s connection status and YouTube’s stream health before selecting the event’s Go live control.
The stream starts but drops or buffers
- Check the cloud service’s playback and connection status, then compare the chosen output bitrate with the service’s supported limit and YouTube’s recommendations.
- Test with representative fast movement and audio. If the path cannot sustain the chosen settings, reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate to a stable supported configuration.
- Check whether the provider offers automatic recovery and what conditions trigger it; recovery behavior is service-specific.
The video appears soft, choppy or incorrectly framed
- Compare the source file’s resolution and frame rate with the encoder output. Do not upscale or raise frame rate expecting to create source detail or motion.
- Check the selected codec and target bitrate. YouTube’s published recommendations differ by codec and output mode.
There is no sound, or audio is out of sync
- Verify that the source file includes the intended audio track and that the encoder is sending AAC or MP3 audio as supported.
- Preview the stream with sound before launch and check the cloud provider’s audio-track or playlist settings.
The wrong broadcast goes live, or the key may be exposed
- Stop the send if necessary, verify the event and privacy setting in Live Control Room, and update the encoder with the intended event details.
- If the key may have been shared or published, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace it in the cloud encoder before restarting.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Technical ability to loop a recording does not grant permission to stream it. Confirm that you can rebroadcast the gameplay and any included music, voice chat or third-party content. YouTube’s live-streaming tools do not settle the rights for a specific game or recording. Also consider whether a channel’s repeated or reused material complies with the rules that apply to its intended use; eligibility for monetization is channel- and content-specific, and a rerun setup alone does not establish it.
