To run a black-screen sleep-music live stream on YouTube, enable live streaming in advance, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, send a black video image and rights-cleared repeating music from streaming software, then test the preview and connection before going live. Use YouTube’s baseline encoder settings and plan for the 12-hour archive limit if you need a replay.
Before you start: enable YouTube Live and check music rights
Enable live streaming early
Your channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Confirm that you can broadcast and archive the music
You need the rights to use the music in the live broadcast and its replay on YouTube. Use music you created yourself or music covered by a license that permits the intended live use and archive. Read the license for its scope, attribution rules, and any limits: a “royalty-free” label, a free download, or owning the audio file does not by itself establish that you can stream it.
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say creators must have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. If a license does not clearly cover your planned use, do not include that track.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create the YouTube stream and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one. Select the encoder workflow for sending a feed from streaming software.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter both in your encoder’s streaming or broadcast settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not share or publish it.
- Keep the stream’s start method in mind. Depending on the stream’s auto-start setting, you may need to start the event in Live Control Room after the encoder feed arrives.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection workflow. Interface labels can change, but the essential credentials are the stream URL and private key shown for the stream.
Build a black-screen scene with looping music
- Add a black visual source. In your streaming software, make a scene with a solid black image or another black video source. Check the preview for stray overlays, cursor capture, or other visible content.
- Add the music file or permitted audio input. Use the source controls in your software to repeat the track or playlist if it is shorter than the broadcast. Looping controls vary by encoder; verify the setting in that software’s documentation rather than assuming the source repeats automatically.
- Check audio levels and continuity. Listen to the preview. Make sure the track is audible without clipping, and that a loop does not introduce an unwanted gap, click, or abrupt level change.
- Keep the scene simple. For a static black screen and pre-mixed music, a webcam, microphone, mixer, or dedicated hardware encoder is not necessary. YouTube describes computer-based software encoding as an option and says expensive equipment is not required; it does not specify a minimum computer model or hardware specification.
Use conservative encoder settings
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance gives baseline recommendations, but does not publish a special preset for a static sleep-music image. For a modest starting point, use the published 720p, 30 fps video bitrate and test the exact configuration you plan to run.

| Setting | Starting point | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | Choose H.264 in the encoder if the option is available. |
| Video bitrate | 2 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, as listed by YouTube | Use the figure for that resolution and frame rate; do not treat it as a universal bitrate for other settings. |
| Bitrate mode | Constant bitrate (CBR) | Set the encoder to CBR rather than a variable-bitrate mode. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds | Set the keyframe interval explicitly if your encoder exposes it. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | Use a format supported by YouTube’s listed encoder guidance. |
These are YouTube’s published operational recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular encoder, computer, or network will remain stable overnight. Use the settings table that matches your selected resolution and frame rate if you choose something other than 720p at 30 fps.
Check upload capacity and test before the event
- Allow upload headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% more available upload bandwidth than the total stream bitrate. Count video and audio together when assessing the stream’s total bitrate.
- Configure early. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend configuring the stream at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it.
- Start a test feed. Connect the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the picture is black, the music is present and clean, and YouTube reports healthy stream status.
- Check the real operating conditions. Test the same computer, network connection, scene, audio source, and encoder settings you intend to use overnight. A successful short preview does not prove that a longer session will stay connected.

Go live, monitor, and end the stream correctly
- Start the encoder and confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room.
- If auto-start is not enabled for the stream, start the event in Live Control Room.
- During the broadcast, check stream health and confirm the audio continues and the visual remains black. Keep an eye on the connection and any encoder or YouTube warnings.
- When finished, stop the stream from the encoder and end the stream in Live Control Room.
For an overnight broadcast, use a computer and connection that can remain powered and online for the planned duration. The YouTube setup guidance does not promise uninterrupted service; testing reduces avoidable configuration problems but cannot guarantee that a stream will never disconnect.
Plan the replay if the stream may exceed 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for broadcasts longer than 12 hours. If keeping a replay matters and the planned stream may exceed that duration, arrange a local recording or split the broadcast into shorter streams rather than relying on an archive that is not documented for the longer session. See YouTube’s encoder workflow and archiving guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: Confirm the channel is verified and eligible, then allow for the possible first-time activation delay of up to 24 hours. Check YouTube Studio for any live-stream restriction.
- The encoder will not connect: Recheck that you copied the stream URL and key for the correct stream, and that they are entered in the encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The preview is not black: Inspect the active scene and source order in your encoder. Disable desktop capture, overlays, or other visible sources that are appearing over the black image.
- The music is silent or stops after one play: Confirm the correct audio source is active and not muted, check the encoder’s audio meter, and enable repeat or loop for the file or playlist in the software.
- The stream buffers or loses health: Check the network’s available upload bandwidth against the total bitrate, with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Verify CBR and the selected encoder settings, then test again before the event.
- The replay is missing after a very long stream: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a promise for longer ones. For future broadcasts, record locally or split the stream if retaining a replay is important.
- A rights claim or restriction appears: Review the license for each track and whether it covers the live broadcast and archive. Remove or replace music you are not authorized to use; possessing the file does not establish streaming rights.
