For a straightforward first print on the Bambu Lab P1S, complete the on-screen setup and calibration, load the supplied Bambu PLA, then print one of the files already stored on the printer. The quick-start guide recommends this path so you can check the machine before adding slicer settings or other materials.
1. Complete the physical setup and calibration
Unpack and position the printer, then follow the setup prompts on its display. Keep the protective foam beneath the hot bed in place until the initial calibration is finished; the quick-start guide specifically warns against removing it beforehand. The guide also notes that vibration and noise during calibration are expected.

When prompted, use Bambu Handy to sign in or register and bind the printer: scan the QR code shown on the printer’s screen and follow the app instructions. Let the initial calibration run to completion. The guide’s exact screen prompts may vary with software revisions, so use the instructions displayed on your machine if wording or icons differ. Bambu Lab recommends using the supplied Bambu PLA for the first test print. The printer’s standard product listing includes Bambu PLA filament with a spool, though package contents can vary by product bundle or region. Bambu Lab P1S product listing

- On the printer screen, use the filament or extruder controls to heat the nozzle to the recommended temperature for the filament. Follow the screen’s instructions rather than choosing a temperature from memory.
- Feed filament through the extruder controls until it comes out of the nozzle. The quick-start guide’s diagram indicates that the filament should not be pullable by hand from the PTFE-tube anchor at this point.
- Insert the filament through the PTFE tube and push it in until it cannot move farther, following the on-screen prompts.

3. Print a file already on the machine
For the first run, choose a pre-loaded model instead of introducing a new file or slicer settings. The quick-start guide lists examples such as 3DBenchy, Bed Scraper and Film Sticking Fixture, and says the pre-loaded files can be printed with PLA Basic or PLA Mate.

- Use the printer’s print control and select a pre-loaded file as directed on the screen.
- Confirm the print when prompted, then let the printer complete the job. Follow any prompts shown on the display.
What the P1S calibrates automatically
The P1S calibration workflow includes automatic bed leveling and vibration compensation. You do not need to manually level the bed before this first test, and the quick-start path does not call for changing start G-code or tuning a print profile. Bambu Lab P1 Series product page

The P1S is designed for more than PLA: Bambu Lab lists PLA, PETG, TPU, PVA and PET as ideal materials, describes ABS and ASA as ideal for its enclosed body, and says it is capable of printing PA and PC. These are product capability descriptions, not first-print recommendations. Bambu Lab also lists a maximum hot-end temperature of 300°C; that specification is not a setup target. The product listing names the printer, stainless-steel hotend with nozzle, build plate, Bambu PLA filament with spool, unclogging pin tool and power cable among the standard contents. A Combo package adds an AMS, so check the listing for your specific package and region. Bambu Lab lists Textured PEI, Cool, Engineering and High Temperature surfaces as compatible plate options, but none is a prerequisite for the recommended PLA test print.
