You can run a continuous Krishna bhajan stream from Linux with OBS by looping a single media file or a VLC playlist, then sending OBS’s output to YouTube Live using the stream URL and key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room. The Linux computer, OBS, media files and internet connection must stay available for the stream to continue; this guide covers setup and checks to make it easier to spot interruptions.
Before you start
- Install OBS on your Linux computer and keep your bhajan files and any accompanying visuals accessible on that machine.
- Choose whether you will loop one file or play a playlist. For a playlist in OBS, VLC must also be installed.
- Make sure you have the rights to stream the specific recordings and images publicly, and to keep any resulting archive available if you plan to do so. Rights depend on the material; a devotional subject or recording does not by itself establish permission.
- Have a YouTube channel ready to go live. YouTube says first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become enabled, so allow time for activation before your intended start.

Choose how the bhajans should play
One recording: Media Source
Use a Media Source when you want a single recording to repeat. It is the simpler option: add the file, enable Loop and let the source restart when playback ends.
Several recordings: VLC Video
Use VLC Video when you want OBS to move through a playlist of bhajans. OBS supports playlists in this source, and Loop Playlist is enabled by default. Decide whether you want a fixed sequence or shuffled playback before leaving it running.

On Linux, install VLC for the VLC Video source to appear in OBS. Match architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources documentation for supported source options.
Set up a looping bhajan in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene for the stream. Give it a recognizable name such as “Krishna Bhajan.”
- Add your media. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source, select the bhajan file and enable Loop. If the source should play audio only, there is no need to add unrelated visual content; use a still image or other visual only if you have the right to stream it.
- For a playlist, add VLC Video instead. Select + in Sources, choose VLC Video, and add the files to its playlist. Keep Loop Playlist enabled for continuous playback. Choose ordered playback for a deliberate sequence or shuffle if variation is intended.
- Confirm playback. Start the source and watch the preview. Check that the intended image is visible, the audio meter moves, and the bhajans play in the order you expect. If you hear nothing, check the source’s audio routing and the system’s selected output device before proceeding.
- Keep files available. The local source depends on the media remaining accessible to OBS. Avoid moving, renaming or disconnecting the files while the stream is running.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream for your channel. If you have never streamed live before, YouTube’s activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Copy the current ingest details. In the Live Control Room, retrieve the stream URL and stream key for the selected stream. Prefer RTMPS if YouTube offers it for the stream: RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. Use the endpoint displayed in the current Live Control Room rather than an old URL copied from another setup. YouTube explains RTMPS in its live encoder settings.
- Enter them in OBS. Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service if available, and enter or connect the stream key and server information from YouTube. If using a custom server option, paste the exact RTMPS URL and key shown in the Live Control Room. Do not share or publish the stream key: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Configure output and start. Set the output to suit your connection and the stream you intend to send, then select Start Streaming in OBS. Confirm that YouTube receives the stream and that its preview looks and sounds correct before you make the broadcast public or leave it unattended.
OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help choose basic settings. It is a starting point, not a substitute for checking the actual preview and connection on your own network.

Check the stream before leaving it unattended
- Preview: Confirm the bhajan image and audio are present, and that a playlist advances or a single file loops as intended.
- Connection status: Watch OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frames counter after starting the stream. OBS explains that an increasing “Dropped frames” counter together with a yellow or red connection square indicates an unstable connection to the streaming server or one that cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. - Local reliability: A local OBS stream relies on the computer staying powered on, OBS remaining open, the media source remaining accessible and the network staying connected. Arrange a way to check the stream and recover it after power, network, application or source failures; OBS does not make a local setup unattended-proof.
Troubleshooting common problems
The VLC Video source is missing
Install VLC on Linux and restart OBS if needed. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. A mismatched architecture can prevent the source from appearing.
The bhajan stops at the end
For one file, open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. For a playlist, use VLC Video and check that Loop Playlist is enabled. Verify that the source has the intended files and is not set to stop after one play.

YouTube does not receive the stream
Check that the selected stream is active in YouTube Live Control Room and that OBS has the matching URL and stream key. Replace stale endpoint details with the current values shown there. If live streaming has not been enabled on the channel before, allow up to 24 hours for YouTube’s initial activation.
OBS shows dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator
These signs point to an unstable connection to the streaming service or a connection that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Check the network and reduce the bitrate if necessary, then watch whether the counter continues to rise. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard may help establish basic settings, but confirm stability with the live connection indicator.

The stream plays but has no audio or the wrong visual
Check the OBS preview, source selection and audio meter. Confirm the correct media file or playlist is loaded and that its audio is reaching the stream mix. If using visuals, verify that the intended source is visible in the scene and that you have permission to broadcast it.
