You can run a fireplace stream on YouTube by sending a camera feed of a real fire or a rights-cleared fireplace video through an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. The practical challenge is keeping the source, encoder, power and internet connection running—and recovering if one fails. YouTube requires an eligible, verified channel, recommends upload-bandwidth headroom, and does not promise that a single 24-hour broadcast will be archived as one replay.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and content rights
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and getting-started instructions.
- Use footage and audio you own or are authorized to use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches and can interrupt or terminate a stream if identified material remains. Even licensed content may be interrupted unless the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and livestream terms explain the responsibilities.
A video being available online or marked as reusable does not by itself establish that you have the rights needed to rebroadcast it live. Confirm permission for both visuals and sound, including any music, before sending the feed.

Choose the fireplace source

YouTube supports encoder workflows using software or standalone hardware; it does not prescribe a particular camera or encoder for this setup. Expensive equipment is not a prerequisite. A camera is needed only if you are filming a real fireplace.
Choose an encoder and plan for continuous operation
An encoder sends your video and audio feed to YouTube. You can use streaming software on a computer or a dedicated hardware encoder. The right choice depends on operating-system compatibility, reliability, restart handling, power consumption and cost; YouTube’s general setup guidance does not establish a product-specific winner.

- Software on a computer: a flexible option if you already have a suitable computer and can keep it powered, connected and running the encoder. For a continuous stream, plan how you will notice a crash or connection loss and restart the feed.
- Dedicated hardware: an option if you prefer a separate encoding device. Check that it accepts your chosen camera or video source and that you have a workable recovery plan if it loses power or connection.
Neither approach makes a 24/7 broadcast failure-proof. The YouTube guidance cited here recommends preparation, testing and monitoring; it does not provide a verified automatic-restart configuration for a continuous fireplace stream.
Optional equipment checklist
- A camera or camcorder, only if filming a real fireplace.
- A software or hardware encoder compatible with your chosen source.
- Reliable power for the source and encoder.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the outgoing stream.
- For a real scene, a secure camera mount and lighting that produce the desired image without creating a fire hazard.
Set up the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule one. If this is your first stream, complete channel verification and live activation in advance; activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Choose the encoder workflow. In the stream setup, retrieve the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Enter them in the corresponding destination or streaming settings in your encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone with access may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish or share it unnecessarily. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
- Configure the source and output. Select the fireplace camera or prerecorded video, add the intended audio, and set the encoder output to suit your source and available upload bandwidth. YouTube’s cited setup pages do not specify one bitrate or resolution that fits every source and connection, so use the recommendations displayed for your stream and verify them in the preview rather than assuming a universal setting.
- Start the encoder before going live. Wait for YouTube to receive the feed and show a preview in Live Control Room. Check the image, audio and stream health, then check the public watch page before relying on the setup. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder early and monitoring the stream.
- Start the broadcast. When the preview and stream status look right, start the stream in the encoder and use Live Control Room to go live if your workflow requires it. The exact controls can vary with encoder and stream settings; confirm that the public watch page is actually playing.
Allow enough upload bandwidth
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. Its streaming tips say: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” This is YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Read YouTube’s streaming tips and check the connection from the location and network you will actually use.

If you send a primary and backup feed, the connection must carry both feeds plus the recommended margin. Avoid relying on a connection that is only just sufficient for the primary feed. Network congestion or interruptions can still disrupt a stream even when your planned capacity meets the recommendation.

A continuous stream depends on every part of the chain: video source, encoder, power, network and YouTube ingest. Before leaving it unattended, test the whole setup and decide how someone will respond if the picture freezes, the audio stops, the encoder closes or the connection drops.

- Keep the source and encoder powered, and prevent sleep settings or scheduled shutdowns from stopping them.
- Monitor Live Control Room and the public watch page for stream health and actual playback.
- Have a recovery procedure: restore the network or encoder feed, confirm the preview returns, then verify the watch page again.
- If a stream drops, YouTube’s guidance supports monitoring and restoring the feed, but does not prescribe a tested 24/7 automatic-restart setup. Do not assume your encoder will reconnect correctly without testing it.
Plan replays separately from continuous streaming
YouTube Help states, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived,” in its encoder setup instructions. That statement does not promise that one continuous 24-hour broadcast will be preserved as a single intact replay. If replays matter, plan how viewers will access them separately and check the resulting archives rather than assuming the full continuous stream will be available as one video.
