To run binaural beats on YouTube Live around the clock, send a stereo audio feed through an encoder, preserve the left/right separation that creates the effect, and plan for failures and recordings. YouTube’s archive is not a dependable full-length recording for a 24/7 broadcast: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Before you start
You need an eligible YouTube channel, a stereo binaural audio source, an encoder, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. - Choose software encoding on a computer or a hardware encoder according to your production and reliability needs. YouTube describes both; a hardware encoder is not established as necessary for a simple audio stream.
- Prepare a visual if you want one, such as a static image or subtle animation. The encoder sends the assembled audio and video feed.
- Plan how you will monitor the broadcast, recover from interruptions, and preserve a local recording if you need a complete archive.
How to set up the stream
1. Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or schedule one. Set its title, description, privacy, and any relevant stream options. Scheduling can make a watch page available in advance.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: someone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is compromised, reset it using YouTube’s stream-key controls. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
2. Preserve the binaural stereo signal
Binaural beats are perceived when different tones are presented separately to the two ears; the listener perceives a beat at their frequency difference. To retain that intended separation, keep the source in true stereo and avoid routing or encoding it as mono. Check that the left and right channels remain distinct in the encoder output and in playback from the YouTube watch page. This is an engineering precaution based on the described mechanism, not a claim that a study tested every stage of YouTube’s pipeline.

3. Configure the encoder
Use settings supported by the encoder and YouTube’s current ingestion guidance. YouTube lists RTMP or RTMPS delivery; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. It recommends 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 kbps stereo audio in its advanced settings. RTMPS is recommended for encrypted delivery. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for current video bitrate recommendations, which depend on resolution, frame rate, and codec.
- Choose an audio bitrate and video settings the encoder and upload connection can sustain continuously.
- A static visual may not need a high frame rate for content reasons, but the stream still has to meet YouTube’s ingestion requirements.
- Do not assume a settings profile suited to a short event will remain stable for days. Test the actual source, visual, and loop transitions.
4. Test before going live
YouTube advises setting up an encoder stream at least two hours before the planned event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes beforehand. Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then verify the stream from the channel/watch page and on a mobile device. Check stream health and listen for silence, clipping, missing channels, or abrupt loop transitions. If you need a local recording, confirm that it is being written and that the file continues to grow.

YouTube recommends at least 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and ongoing quality monitoring. Include the combined bitrate of primary and backup feeds when assessing available capacity. Its guidance also recommends testing backup takeover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable; that test does not guarantee seamless failover in every setup. How to keep a 24/7 stream reliable
A continuous broadcast depends on more than the encoder staying open. Power loss, network outages, a crashed process, a failed source file, or a loop that stops can interrupt it. YouTube’s guidance recommends a reliable network, bandwidth headroom, testing, and monitoring; it does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 uptime.

- Monitor stream health and playback rather than assuming a running encoder means viewers receive clean audio.
- Test backup equipment or an alternate encoder before relying on it, and verify what happens when the primary feed stops.
- Keep a local recording if you require a complete copy. Check storage capacity and decide how recordings will rotate before the disk fills.
- Use a loop source designed to repeat cleanly, and listen at the transition point for gaps, clicks, or changes in stereo balance.
Will YouTube archive a 24/7 stream?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on a single 24/7 broadcast to produce a complete YouTube archive. If a complete recording matters, record locally and verify the recording. Alternatively, split the broadcast into shorter scheduled events, understanding that this changes the uninterrupted-stream experience. What to say about binaural beats
A 2023 systematic review of 14 EEG studies found five results consistent with the brainwave-entrainment hypothesis, eight contradictory results, and one mixed result. The authors noted substantial methodological differences and urged caution in interpreting entrainment claims. A 2019 meta-analysis covering 22 studies and 35 effect sizes across cognition, anxiety, and pain perception reported an overall effect size of g = 0.45, with outcomes varying by frequency, exposure duration, and timing. These findings do not establish that an individual stream treats a health condition or that a particular frequency reliably produces a desired brainwave state.
