To make the original GameCube release of Star Fox Adventures display in widescreen, open the game’s Options menu through Peppy Hare and set Screen Ratio to Widescreen. Nintendo’s instruction booklet specifies that mode for an anamorphic 16:9 widescreen TV; use Normal for a 4:3 TV. The option changes the display presentation, but the manual does not claim it changes gameplay or improves image quality.
How to change the screen ratio

Those are the display targets given in Nintendo’s official instruction booklet. The booklet’s wording is specific: “Screen Ratio: Set to Normal for a 4:3 TV, or Widescreen for Anamorphic 16:9 (widescreen TV only).”

Normal or Widescreen: which should you choose?

Choose the setting that matches your display. The booklet documents the aspect-ratio targets, but does not provide a comparison of image quality, resolution, performance, or gameplay effects. Treat widescreen as a presentation option, not as a gameplay upgrade.
What else is in the Options menus?
Other settings are opened through different character selections. Peppy’s general options include a rumble toggle. ROB handles the default language and subtitles, which can be switched on or off. Slippy opens audio settings: Stereo, Surround, Mono, and Headphones output modes, alongside separate Music, SFX, and Cutscene volume controls. The booklet lists these choices without ranking them, so select the output mode that suits your listening setup and adjust volumes to taste.

Widescreen does not change the camera controls
Screen Ratio is separate from camera handling. GameSpot’s contemporary review describes the left shoulder button as frequently used for camera control, calling the system a compromise between manual flexibility and an automatic camera. That review comment concerns gameplay, not the effect of the display setting.
Saving on original GameCube hardware
Nintendo’s booklet says saving requires a GameCube Memory Card in Slot A. This requirement applies to playing on original GameCube hardware; the cited instruction does not establish requirements for other ways of playing the game.
