Laravel does not prescribe one date-picker API: the right settings depend on the form component or JavaScript library your application uses. In Filament, use minDate() to set the earliest selectable date and disabledDates() to block specific dates. In Flatpickr, the corresponding options are minDate, disable, and dateFormat. Identify your installed picker and version before copying an example, because similarly named formats and methods may follow different rules.
First identify the date picker in your Laravel app
A Laravel project may use Filament’s form components, Flatpickr directly, or another package. Their APIs are not interchangeable. The examples below are specifically for Filament and Flatpickr; check the component and version installed in your project against its documentation before applying them.

Filament documents its date-time picker and date limits in its date-time picker documentation. Flatpickr documents its configuration in its options reference and examples.
Set a minimum date
Filament
Call minDate() on the date field. Filament’s documentation shows date limits supplied as a DateTime value, such as a Carbon instance, or as a string. This illustrative example follows the Filament 3.x guidance; verify the method and behavior against your installed version:
#1 Best Overall
use FilamentFormsComponentsDatePicker;
DatePicker::make('date_of_birth')
->native(false)
->minDate(now()->subYears(150))
->maxDate(now());
Here, minDate() establishes the lower bound and maxDate() the upper bound. The example turns off the native browser control with native(false), as in Filament’s documented JavaScript-picker examples. The 150-year limit is illustrative, not a recommended rule for every date-of-birth field.
Flatpickr
Set minDate in the Flatpickr configuration. Flatpickr treats the minimum as inclusive, so the boundary date itself remains selectable. Its date options accept JavaScript Date objects, timestamps, ISO strings, strings matching the configured dateFormat, and the shortcut "today". See the Flatpickr examples for supported values and boundary behavior.
flatpickr("#appointment-date", {
minDate: "today"
});
Disable particular dates or date rules
Filament
Use disabledDates() to block specific dates. Filament documents a static list in this form:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDateTimePicker::make('date')
->native(false)
->disabledDates(['2000-01-03', '2000-01-15', '2000-01-20']);
Those dates are documentation examples only. Filament’s surfaced documentation also describes a function for dynamic dates; confirm the callback signature and utility-injection behavior for your installed version before using it for changing availability. Refer to the Filament date-time picker documentation.

Flatpickr
Flatpickr’s disable option can take individual dates, ranges, or a function that returns true for dates to disable. For example, this function disables weekends:
flatpickr("#appointment-date", {
disable: [
function (date) {
return date.getDay() === 0 || date.getDay() === 6;
}
]
});
Use a list for a small set of unavailable dates, a range for a continuous blocked period, or a function when availability follows a rule. The Flatpickr examples show these forms and their configuration.

Set stored and displayed date formats
Flatpickr: keep a server-friendly value and show a readable date
Flatpickr’s dateFormat controls the value in the original input; the options reference lists Y-m-d as its default. To display a friendlier version separately, enable altInput and set altFormat. For example:

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →flatpickr("#appointment-date", {
dateFormat: "Y-m-d",
altInput: true,
altFormat: "F j, Y",
ariaDateFormat: "F j, Y"
});
With this configuration, the alternate input presents a readable date such as “October 4, 2026,” while the original input retains the dateFormat value. ariaDateFormat controls the day labels used by assistive technology and follows Flatpickr’s date-format token family. Confirm the option details in the Flatpickr options reference.

Filament and other integrations: check token rules
Do not assume Flatpickr tokens work unchanged in PHP or in Filament methods. The third-party Coolsam Flatpickr integration, for example, shows format('Y-m-d') and displayFormat('F Y') as plugin-specific methods. Treat those as guidance for that integration, not universal Filament syntax; consult the Coolsam Flatpickr plugin documentation and the documentation for your installed component.
Choose the right configuration for the job
| Need | Filament example | Flatpickr example |
|---|---|---|
| Earliest selectable date | minDate() |
minDate; the limit is inclusive |
| Block dates | disabledDates() for static dates; a supported callback for dynamic dates |
disable with dates, ranges, or a function |
| Control the submitted/original value format | Depends on the installed component or integration’s token rules | dateFormat |
| Show a separate readable value | Depends on the installed component or integration | altInput with altFormat |
| Set accessible day labels | Check the installed component’s documentation | ariaDateFormat |
The practical choice is driven by your interaction and data contract: use a boundary when dates before or after a point are invalid, a disabled-date rule for exceptions or availability, and separate display and stored formats when people should see a friendlier date than the server receives. These settings affect the picker UI; validate submitted dates in your application as well, rather than relying on the browser control alone.
