To suppress a consent banner in a Selenium screenshot, first open a page on the target site’s domain, add that site’s actual consent cookie with WebDriver, then load the capture URL and wait for the page’s own ready condition before saving the image. There is no universal Selenium consent cookie: the required name, value, and attributes depend on the website.
Set the cookie in the right order
WebDriver adds cookies to the current browsing context, so visit the relevant domain before calling add_cookie. Selenium notes that you must be on the domain for which the cookie is valid; a small page on that site, such as a 404 page, can be a practical starting point if the homepage is slow. - Open a page on the target site’s domain.
- Add the consent cookie using the site’s actual schema and values.
- Navigate to or refresh the page you intend to capture.
- Wait for a page-specific condition that indicates the page is ready.
- Save the screenshot and, if debugging, read the cookie back from WebDriver.
Python example
This runnable structure uses Selenium’s Python WebDriver API. Replace the example domain, capture URL, cookie name, and value with details from the authorized site or test fixture. consent=accepted below is illustrative only; it is not a standard consent setting.

For those pages, wait for a meaningful element or application-specific signal instead. Choose cookie attributes to match the site
The name and value are required. The domain, path, security settings, and any additional consent payload must match how the target site uses the cookie; copying generic attributes can produce a cookie that is stored but ignored.

Verify the state before capturing
Use the real cookie name to check whether WebDriver stored it, or inspect all cookies in the current context:

Troubleshoot a banner that remains visible
add_cookiefails: Confirm the browser is on a page in the cookie’s valid domain context and that the cookie object contains accepted fields. Selenium requires the relevant domain context.- The cookie reads back, but the banner remains: The site may use a different cookie name or value, require an encoded preference record, or depend on a client-side state transition. Check the authorized implementation or test fixture; general WebDriver documentation cannot establish a particular site’s consent schema.
- The screenshot shows an old page state: Navigate to or refresh the target after insertion, then wait for a page-specific readiness signal before capture.
- The cookie appears on one URL but not another: Check its domain and path scope against the capture URL.
