Set a PageCrawl viewport in the monitored page’s advanced settings, not by assuming the screenshot-retrieval request accepts a width parameter. Enable Power User mode, configure the monitor’s device-emulation or viewport width, and use Default or Stealth mode for screenshot capture. PageCrawl’s available documentation does not establish an API field name or accepted numeric range, so copy the generated request from developer mode or confirm it in the live API reference before writing an API payload.
Set the viewport in the monitor configuration
- Edit the monitored page. Open its configuration and enable Power User mode to expose advanced controls. PageCrawl lists device emulation for specific device viewports among these controls. PageCrawl’s advanced settings documentation
- Choose the viewport width for that monitor. PageCrawl’s visual-regression guidance describes specifying an exact width and recommends creating separate monitors for important breakpoints on critical pages. PageCrawl’s visual-regression guide
- Select an engine that supports screenshots. Fast mode does not support screenshots or visual comparison; PageCrawl recommends Default or Stealth for those tasks. PageCrawl’s engine guide
- Save the monitor and run the check. Retrieve the resulting screenshot using the documented screenshot endpoint for the page and check. Treat that retrieval as a separate step from configuring how the monitor renders the page.
The documentation cited above is available from PageCrawl; consult its current help pages for the corresponding settings and endpoint details.

Choose widths for the layouts you need to test
PageCrawl’s visual-regression guide uses the following representative examples. They are examples, not a complete set of permitted values or stated minimum and maximum dimensions.
| Layout category | Example viewport widths |
|---|---|
| Desktop | 1920 px, 1440 px, 1280 px |
| Tablet | 1024 px, 768 px |
| Mobile | 414 px, 375 px |
Use widths that correspond to the responsive layouts you actually want to verify. A single monitor width cannot stand in for every breakpoint if the page changes layout at other widths.

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Do not guess the API property name
PageCrawl documents screenshot retrieval separately from monitor configuration. The available documentation does not establish that a retrieval request can change the viewport, nor does it disclose the exact viewport property name, where it belongs in a request body, or accepted numeric bounds. Avoid copying an invented JSON key or assuming arbitrary dimensions will be accepted.
- Open the live API reference or PageCrawl’s developer mode for the monitor editor.
- Use the request generated by the editor as the starting point for code, including the precise field name and payload placement.
- Check the current API reference if it conflicts with a general API guide. PageCrawl says its reference is generated from its OpenAPI specification and takes precedence when the two differ. PageCrawl API guide and reference
- Keep the rendering configuration and screenshot retrieval call distinct unless the current reference explicitly documents a viewport parameter on the retrieval endpoint.
Common problems and fixes
- No screenshot or visual comparison is produced: check the engine. Fast mode does not support these features; choose Default or Stealth.
- The page renders at an unexpected width: confirm the width in the monitor’s advanced configuration and ensure you edited the monitor that produced the check you retrieved.
- An API request rejects a viewport field: the key or payload placement may be wrong, or the value may be outside undocumented validation limits. Copy the current generated request or consult the live reference instead of trying guessed property names.
- Changing the retrieval call has no effect on rendering: screenshot retrieval and monitor rendering are separate documented steps; configure the monitor unless the current reference says otherwise.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot from one GET request. Its endpoint accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its API supports custom viewport settings, though the precise options should be checked in the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
