Android Auto may not automatically show or select that destination, so if it does not appear in the car interface, open the event on your phone and tap its location to hand it off to Maps. Set up the event and route before you start driving.
The short answer
Google Calendar stores a destination as an event detail. On Android, create or edit the event, expand the editor if necessary, enter a recognizable place name or street address in Location, and save. That gives Calendar location information that can also be previewed in Google Maps.

Android Auto is a separate part of the experience. The available Google help describes Calendar locations and Maps previews, but it does not promise that Android Auto will always select the next Calendar event or put every event destination on the car screen. Phone, account, vehicle, and software differences can affect what appears.

If the destination is not suggested in Android Auto, a reported fallback is to open the saved event in Calendar on the phone, tap its location, and let Maps provide navigation through the connected car interface. Do that before driving, not while the vehicle is moving.

Set a location on an Android phone
-
Open the Google Calendar app and tap Create, then Event.
-
Swipe up on the event editor to reveal more details. The compact editor can hide fields such as the title and location until you expand it.
-
Enter the destination in Location. A full street address is the clearest option when you have it. If you do not have an address, use a place name that Google Maps is likely to recognize, such as the name of the venue or organization.

Save the event.
The destination belongs in the Location field, not only in the event title or description. Text in a title or description may tell you where the appointment is, but it is not the same as supplying Calendar’s location detail for Maps-related handling.
After saving, reopen the event and confirm that the location is still present. This simple check separates an event that was never given a destination from an event whose destination is present but is not being surfaced by Android Auto.
Change the location on an existing event
-
Open the event in Google Calendar.
-
Tap Edit.
-
Replace or correct the text in Location.
-
Save the changes.
Use a recognizable place or street address, just as you would for a new event. If the old entry was only a shorthand name, an address can make the intended destination clearer. If the location is already correct, you do not need to recreate the event merely because Android Auto did not suggest it.
Google Calendar also supports opening or previewing an event location in Maps when location information is present. That preview is useful for checking what destination the event contains before you depend on it for a trip.
What to enter in Location
Prefer an address when one is available
A complete street address gives Maps a specific destination to interpret. Include the venue name as well if that helps you recognize it, but put the address in the dedicated Location field rather than relying on a sentence in the description.
Use a place name you can recognize
When an address is unavailable, enter a clearly identifiable place name. The goal is a destination that Maps can recognize, not an internal nickname that only makes sense to you. Before leaving, preview the event location in Maps if you want to check how it resolves.
Do not treat the title as the destination
An event title such as “Dentist” or “Client meeting” describes the appointment. It does not replace the Location value. Likewise, putting an address in the description is not equivalent to entering it in Location. Fill in the dedicated field even when the title or notes already mention the venue.
Calendar on a computer and Maps
You can also create an event on a computer by entering its details and saving. Google’s computer help describes creating an event and saving those details. Google’s guidance for using products side by side explains that an event with location information can be opened and its location previewed in Maps.

It does not change the Android Auto limitation: Calendar-to-Maps location handling is documented, while automatic selection of every Calendar destination in Android Auto is not promised.
After you create or edit the event on a computer, allow the account’s calendar data to be available on the phone you will use with Android Auto. Then open the event on the phone and verify the saved Location value before departure. The verification is especially helpful when you changed an existing event and need to know whether you are looking at the current version.
What to expect when Android Auto is connected
Saving a location makes it part of the Calendar event. It does not guarantee that Android Auto will automatically suggest that location as the next destination or display a Calendar-specific route on the car screen.

Google’s Calendar documentation reviewed for this task explains event locations and Maps previews. It does not state that every upcoming event is automatically selected by Android Auto, nor does it establish one behavior for every phone, account, vehicle, or software version. Therefore, treat automatic appearance as something that may happen in your setup, not as a guaranteed result of adding an address.

-
A 2020 Android Auto Community thread discussed an older way to navigate to calendar events and users said the same route was not exposed in a newer interface.
-
In a 2022 discussion, users disagreed about whether upcoming Calendar destinations appeared in Maps.
-
In 2024, a user reported that a Maps destination suggestion had disappeared and described opening Calendar on the phone and selecting the event location instead.

These reports describe individual experiences, not official release notes or proof of a single current behavior. An update, account configuration, phone, vehicle display, or Android Auto version may produce a different result.
Automatic suggestion versus manual handoff
There are two practical ways to think about the workflow:
| Workflow | What it involves | What the available documentation supports |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic suggestion | Save a Calendar event with a location and see whether Android Auto or Maps presents it as a destination. | Possible in some user setups, but not guaranteed by the official Calendar help reviewed. |
| Manual handoff | Open the event on the phone, tap its Location value, and let Maps open the destination for navigation. | Reported by a user as a fallback when the car-screen suggestion was absent; not described as a universal official Android Auto workflow. |
The important distinction is reliability of expectation. Entering a valid location is the correct Calendar step in either case. The uncertain part is whether the connected-car interface will surface it without your intervention.
If the destination does not appear in the car
A user in a 2024 Android Auto Community discussion reported this workaround:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →-
Before driving, open the saved event in Google Calendar on the phone.
-
Tap the event’s location.
-
Allow the location to open in Google Maps.
-
Start navigation in Maps, then use the connected car interface.
This gives Maps an explicit destination instead of waiting for Android Auto to suggest one. It is a reported fallback, not a universal official instruction, so the exact handoff may vary by device and software version.
If tapping the location does not open a useful map, return to the event and check the Location text. Correct an ambiguous or incomplete entry, save it, and try the preview again. If the event has no location at all, edit it and add one before attempting the handoff.
Do not search through Calendar or Maps while driving. Prepare the route while parked, ask a passenger to operate the phone, or follow local rules for hands-free device use.

Account settings: treat community advice cautiously
In a Google Android Auto Community answer dated September 13, 2022, a responder advised entering the address in Calendar’s “Where” box so events would appear in Google Maps. The responder also advised being signed in to both Calendar and Maps and asserted that Web & App Activity must be enabled for destination data to reach Maps.
That answer is community guidance, not a statement from Google staff or an official product guarantee. The Calendar documentation reviewed does not establish that Web & App Activity universally applies to every current version or account configuration. You may check that setting, and confirm that Calendar and Maps use the accounts you intend to use, but regard the advice as a troubleshooting suggestion rather than a guaranteed fix.
Changing an account setting will not correct an event that has no Location value. First make sure the event contains a recognizable destination and that the change was saved.

Detailed troubleshooting checklist
The Location field is missing while creating the event
Swipe up on the event editor. The Android editor may initially show only a compact set of controls, with additional details revealed after expansion. Once the details are visible, enter the destination in Location and save.
The event saved, but the destination is blank
Open the event, tap Edit, enter a street address or recognizable place in Location, and save again. Verify the value after saving. Do not assume that a title or description containing an address populated the dedicated field.
The destination is a vague or private nickname
Replace it with a place name Maps can recognize or add the street address. Then preview the event location in Maps. A clear destination reduces ambiguity when you hand the event off manually.
Android Auto shows no Calendar destination
Do not interpret the missing suggestion as proof that the event was saved incorrectly. The official help does not promise automatic Calendar destination selection. Open the event on the phone and tap its location to open Maps before driving.
The automatic behavior used to work
Community discussions from 2020, 2022, and 2024 describe changes or disagreement about Calendar destinations appearing in the car or Maps. A changed interface or software version may explain why a previously familiar route is no longer visible. Use the manual handoff as the practical fallback rather than assuming every version exposes the same control.
You are checking the wrong account
Community advice recommends being signed in to both Calendar and Maps. Confirm that the event is in the calendar account you are viewing and that Maps is using the account you expect. This is a sensible check, but it is not documented as a universal requirement for all configurations.
You are troubleshooting while moving
Stop in a safe place before editing an event, tapping its location, or starting navigation. Prepare the event and route before departure and follow local laws governing phone use in a vehicle.

If it is not offered, use the phone-to-event fallback: open the event, tap its location, and start Maps navigation before moving.
This routine separates the steps you control from the behavior you cannot guarantee. You control the quality of the Calendar location and whether you prepare the route in advance. You cannot rely on a documented promise that Android Auto will automatically display every upcoming event destination.
What this setup does and does not require
No physical product purchase is required for this software workflow. The essential action is entering and saving a location in Google Calendar. Google Calendar and Maps can handle the event location, while Android Auto may or may not surface it automatically in the connected-car interface.
The manual fallback also does not require recreating the event. It uses the saved event’s location to open Maps. If the event location is wrong, edit and save the event first; if it is correct but absent from Android Auto, proceed with the reported manual handoff.
