To pause before a Puppeteer screenshot, await a JavaScript timer immediately before page.screenshot(). The duration is in milliseconds; for example, 2_000 waits two seconds:
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 2_000));
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' });
The delay belongs in your Node.js code, not in the screenshot options. If you can identify a page condition that means the content is ready, waiting for that condition is usually more reliable than sleeping for a fixed time.

Use an awaited timer for a fixed delay
Put the timer after navigation and directly before the capture. This complete example opens a page, waits two seconds, then saves a screenshot:

const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com');
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 2_000));
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
Change 2_000 to the required number of milliseconds: 500 is half a second, and 5_000 is five seconds. The timer waits the chosen duration even when the page becomes ready sooner. Puppeteer documents screenshot capture through Page.screenshot() and its screenshots guide.

Choose a wait that matches the page state
A delay only says that time has passed. It does not establish that a particular element rendered, that network activity stopped, or that an animation finished. Pick the signal that corresponds to what your screenshot must show.
| Wait strategy | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed timer | A known timed change, such as a delayed visual update, needs extra time after navigation. | Always waits the full duration, and does not prove the target content is ready. |
| Network idle | You need to wait for a quieter network after initial navigation. | Network quiet is not proof that a specific widget, client-rendered update, or animation has completed. |
| Selector or page condition | A known element or measurable page state signals readiness. | Requires a meaningful condition and a suitable timeout. |
Wait for an element
If a report displays a readiness marker when its content is available, wait for that marker instead of guessing a duration:
await page.goto('https://example.com');
await page.waitForSelector('.report-ready', { visible: true });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' });
Replace .report-ready with a selector that represents the state you need. Puppeteer describes selector waits and locator behavior in its page interactions guide.

Wait for network quiet or another condition
Puppeteer’s screenshot guide shows navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2'. For example:
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' });
This addresses initial network loading; it does not guarantee that every delayed widget or visual effect is complete. For a custom readiness condition, the Page API includes waitForFunction() and waitForNetworkIdle(). Use the condition that reflects the visual state you are capturing.
Capture a full page after waiting
Apply the same wait before a full-page capture, then set the documented fullPage screenshot option:

await page.goto('https://example.com');
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 2_000));
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true });
fullPage controls the capture area; it does not add a delay. See Puppeteer’s ScreenshotOptions for documented capture settings.

- Adding
delaytopage.screenshot(): The documented screenshot options do not include a delay setting. Put the timer before the screenshot call. - Forgetting
await: Without awaiting the timer promise, execution can reach the screenshot before the delay finishes. - Sleeping when readiness is observable: A fixed timer cannot confirm that the target state exists. Prefer a relevant selector or page condition when available.
- Treating network idle as animation completion: Quiet network activity and a finished animation are different conditions. Wait for a page state that represents the image you want.
- Confusing wait time with a Puppeteer timeout: JavaScript’s
setTimeoutduration is separate from the timeout for Puppeteer wait operations. The WaitTimeoutOptions reference lists a 30,000-millisecond default for applicable waits and allows timeout configuration. That is not the duration of your timer.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request captures a URL without setting up Puppeteer in your script:
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.
