If cloud storage or internet access is a problem, use compatible USB storage or a computer to hand off the file. The right option depends on distance, internet access, quality, and who should be able to view the video.
Choose a transfer method that fits the situation
| Method | Works best when | Main constraint | Quality and access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Photos link | The recipient is remote and internet is available | The video must be backed up. Google lists a 10 GB maximum per video; account storage is shared with other Google services. | Convenient, but anyone with the shared link may pass it on. |
| Quick Share | The recipient and a compatible device are nearby | Devices must be close; the recipient needs to be discoverable and generally must accept. | A direct transfer rather than a text attachment. Visibility settings affect whether the device appears. |
| RCS or Google Messages | The video fits the conversation’s attachment rules | There is no universal attachment-size limit in the cited Google help. | HD+ Original sends at full media resolution; MMS compression can affect quality. |
| USB storage or computer | You can exchange a physical device or connect the phone to a computer | Phone, cable, drive, and connector compatibility matter. | Physical handoff avoids relying on messaging delivery. |
Send a video with a Google Photos link
This is usually the simplest option for a recipient who is not nearby. Instead of attaching the video to a text, you share a link to the item in Google Photos and send that link in the conversation.

- Open Google Photos and select the video.
- Tap Share and choose the link-sharing option or share with the intended person, following the app’s prompts.
- Send the resulting link through your text conversation.
- Make sure the video has backed up before relying on the link. Google Photos backup requires an internet connection and available Google Account storage. Google documents a maximum video file size of 10 GB per video for backup; this is a service ceiling, not a guarantee that every smaller video will upload under all conditions. See Google Photos backup requirements.
Choose link access with care
A shared link is convenient, but it is a bearer link: anyone who receives it can share it onward. Google Photos Help says, “A shared link is a URL that people can’t guess on their own. After a link is created, it can be shared by others.” For tighter access, share with named accounts where that option suits the recipient, or turn link sharing off after they have access. Turning link sharing off and back on resets the link. See Google Photos shared-album privacy controls.

- Open the video, tap Share, then choose Quick Share.
- Select the recipient’s nearby device. If it does not appear, ask the recipient to open Quick Share in Receive mode and unlock the screen.

For transfers between Android and Windows, Google provides separate Quick Share for Windows instructions with device and network requirements.

Check RCS and video quality before trying another text
If the video may fit the conversation, inspect the media-quality option in Google Messages when you attach it. Google Messages offers HD Optimized for chat, which sends faster and uses less data, and HD+ Original, which sends at full media resolution. Google says carriers compress MMS messages, which can affect image quality. Details are in Google Messages media-quality guidance.
Changing the quality setting does not guarantee that an oversized attachment will send. Attachment limits vary with the messaging app, carrier, region, device, and whether the conversation uses RCS or MMS; Google’s cited help does not publish one universal size limit.

Hand off the file with USB storage or a computer
Copy to USB storage
Files by Google can browse, copy, and move files on USB storage with Android 7.0 or later. Connect a compatible drive, open it in Files by Google, and copy or move the video to the drive. The phone’s port and the drive or adapter must be compatible; the Android version alone does not establish which connector a particular phone needs. See Files by Google’s USB storage instructions.
Transfer through a computer
Connect the Android phone to a Windows computer or Chromebook with a USB cable, unlock the phone, select File Transfer when prompted, and copy the video. Not every USB cable supports data transfer. Google’s steps are in its Android USB file-transfer guide.
