How to Send Large Video Files From Your Samsung Galaxy (2026 Guide)

Send a large video from your Samsung Galaxy with Quick Share for nearby recipients, or use Google Drive when the file exceeds regional Quick Share limits.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the person you are sending to is nearby, Samsung Quick Share is the simplest built-in route: the video moves directly between the two phones. If the person is elsewhere, Quick Share can still send a link or QR code, but those remote transfers are subject to regional size caps. For a video that exceeds those caps, upload it to Google Drive and share the link instead.

Choose a method by where the recipient is

The right route depends on two things: how far away the recipient is and how large the video is. The table below compares the options as Samsung and Google describe them in their 2026 support material.

Situation Best route What to consider
Recipient is in the same room and has a compatible Samsung or Android device Quick Share nearby transfer Uses no mobile data. Both devices need Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Quick Share enabled. Samsung states no file count or size limit for nearby transfers, but transfer time depends on conditions.
Recipient is remote Quick Share QR code, link, or contacts Requires an internet connection. Regional per-file and per-day caps apply (see the limits table below). Samsung UK states links expire after two days.
Video is larger than the Quick Share remote cap, or the recipient needs a file that stays available Google Drive Uploading uses your Drive storage. Choose link permissions deliberately. Use Wi-Fi for a large upload.
Recipient is a nearby PC Link to Windows or a USB data cable Samsung names both as PC options. Connector type and compatibility depend on the phone model; Samsung’s support material does not specify them.
Video is sensitive and under the Private sharing cap Quick Share Private sharing Offers expiry and restrictions on saving, resending, and screenshots, but the total cap is only 200 MB per transfer.

Send to a nearby phone with Quick Share

Nearby transfers are the route most people should try first. Samsung’s support instructions describe the process below. Menu names can vary with the One UI version, carrier, and model, so if a label differs, look for the equivalent option.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Bring both devices close together. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both phones, enable Quick Share, and keep the receiving phone unlocked and awake.
  2. Open Gallery or My Files, select the video, tap Share, then tap Quick Share. Some versions show “Nearby Share” wording or a combined Quick Share screen instead.
  3. Select the receiving device when it appears in the list.
  4. On the receiving phone, accept the incoming transfer.
  5. Open the received video on the recipient’s phone to confirm it plays before you delete the original from your own device.

If the receiving device does not appear

  • Confirm that Quick Share is turned on for both devices and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are active.
  • Check the receiver’s visibility setting. Samsung’s Galaxy support page describes three options: No one, Contacts only, and Everyone. The recipient’s phone must be set to a visibility level that allows your device to find it.
  • Move the phones closer together and try again with the screens on.

Visibility and privacy

Samsung warns that discovery settings can make a phone visible to people nearby. Set visibility to match the people you want to reach, and switch it back to a narrower setting afterward. Leaving Everyone enabled longer than needed is the main avoidable exposure in nearby sharing.

Send to someone who is not nearby

For a remote recipient, Quick Share can generate a QR code or link, or send the file to a saved contact. Each of these routes uses an internet connection. Samsung recommends Wi-Fi for anything large: its UK Quick Share FAQ states, “It is highly recommended to share large files through a Wi-Fi connection,” and this advice matters most for QR, link, and contact transfers, which use mobile data or Wi-Fi. Nearby transfers do not use mobile data.

Quick Share remote limits differ by region

Samsung’s UK and US pages give different limits for QR code and contact sharing. Both were reviewed as 2026 pages, and the figures do not match, so do not treat either set as a universal limit. Check the current figure in your own region and software version.

Private sharing is for small, sensitive files

Private sharing is designed for control rather than size. Samsung lists these limits and features:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Up to 20 files and 200 MB total per transfer, which rules out most genuinely large videos.
  • An expiry time you set.
  • Restrictions that can stop the recipient from taking screenshots, saving the file, or resending it.
  • Supported formats that include MP4 and several other video formats.
  • Availability limited to Galaxy devices and varying by region.

Use Google Drive when the file is too large

Google’s Android help supports uploading video files to Google Drive and sharing them from the Drive app. The upload uses space in your Drive storage. Large uploads and playback depend on your storage, connection, and the video format, and Google does not establish a single upload speed.

Send to a nearby PC

Samsung support lists two ways to move a video to a PC: Link to Windows and a USB cable. Both are useful only when the PC is the recipient. A USB data cable is an optional accessory for this case, but Samsung’s support material does not specify connector type, cable speed, or compatibility for each Galaxy model. Confirm the phone’s port and the PC’s port before buying a cable, and use one that carries data rather than charging only. Neither PC route solves remote delivery; for that, use the Quick Share or Google Drive methods above.

Which method to use

  • Use Quick Share nearby transfer for a recipient in the same room.
  • Use Quick Share links or contacts for a remote recipient, provided the video fits your region’s cap.
  • Use Google Drive when the video exceeds the remote Quick Share cap or the recipient needs continued access.
  • Use Private sharing only for small, sensitive files under 200 MB.
