Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse an AutomateWoo workflow with the New Review Posted trigger and a Send Email action. The workflow runs after WooCommerce approves the review, and the documented {{ customer.generate_coupon }} variable inserts a unique coupon generated from a template coupon you create first.
What you need before creating the workflow
- WooCommerce with AutomateWoo installed and active.
- A coupon template configured in the WooCommerce admin. Set its discount type and amount, minimum spend, eligible products or categories, usage limits, and expiry according to your campaign.
- A decision about repeat rewards: one reward per customer, rewards for multiple reviews, or no frequency limit.
The personalized code is generated from the template’s settings. If the template is missing or its restrictions are wrong, the email may contain no usable reward or a coupon that does not match your policy.
Send one coupon after each customer’s first approved review
-
Create the private coupon template
Open the WooCommerce coupon management screen and create a coupon intended only as the basis for generated codes. Configure the discount, minimum order requirement, product restrictions, per-user or total usage limits, and expiration date. Do not treat this template as the customer-facing code; AutomateWoo uses its settings to create a personalized coupon.
-
Create the AutomateWoo workflow
Create a new workflow and select New Review Posted as the trigger. WooCommerce’s documented example uses this trigger only after the review has been approved, so an unapproved submission will not send the reward.

Prevent repeat rewards
Add the rule This Workflow’s Run Count for Customer and set it below one when the campaign should pay out only once to each customer. This limits the workflow rather than changing the coupon’s own usage restrictions.
-
Write the thank-you email
Add a Send Email action addressed to
{{ customer.email }}. Explain that the coupon is a thank-you for sharing an opinion, then insert{{ customer.generate_coupon }}where the personalized code and its details should appear. Make the eligibility rules and expiry clear in the message if they could affect redemption.Rank #2

Preview, test, and enable
Use AutomateWoo’s preview and test controls for personalized coupons. Verify that the generated code has the intended discount, restrictions, usage allowance, and expiry, and confirm that the email renders correctly before enabling the workflow.
Choose the workflow that matches your goal
| Goal | Trigger or feature | Approval behavior | Qualification or limit | Delivery method |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reward an existing review | AutomateWoo New Review Posted | Runs after approval | Optional per-customer run-count rule | Email with {{ customer.generate_coupon }} |
| Ask for a review after purchase | Scheduled email from Order Completed | Not a review-approval reward | Allow time for shipping before sending | Email links customers to the product review form |
| Reward only five-star reviews | Order Completed plus a Review Rating rule set to five | Uses the documented rating condition rather than the general review-posted example | Only customers meeting the five-star condition qualify | Email with a personalized coupon |
| Reward multiple reviews | AutomateWoo Customer Review Count rule | Depends on the workflow’s configured conditions | Set a sensible frequency or count limit to avoid excessive rewards | Email or another configured workflow action |
| Issue coupons through a review-specific extension | Coupons Pro product-review coupon settings | Can be configured around approval | Options include expiry, verified-purchaser eligibility, and one review per product per user | Issued by the extension’s review-coupon feature |
These are different campaigns. A review request tries to obtain a review; the New Review Posted workflow rewards one that already exists. A five-star campaign is also a separate policy: do not present a general review reward as if it were conditioned on sentiment or rating.

Coupon rules that determine whether the reward works
Discount and minimum spend
Choose a fixed amount, percentage, or other discount supported by your store, and set a minimum spend only if the campaign requires a larger order. State the requirement in the email so customers are not surprised at checkout.
Products and categories
Restrict the template to specific products or categories when the reward is meant to drive a particular purchase. Otherwise, leave those restrictions off deliberately rather than relying on an accidental default.

Usage and expiry
Set the template’s total and per-user usage limits and an expiration date that fit the campaign. The generated coupon inherits these settings, so changing the template later may not retroactively change codes already issued.
Verified purchasers and review controls
If using a dedicated review-coupon extension such as Coupons Pro, decide whether only verified purchasers qualify and whether one review per product per user is allowed. Those controls belong to that extension and are not universal AutomateWoo behavior.

Prevent common policy and delivery mistakes
- Rewarding an unapproved review: the documented New Review Posted example waits for approval, so do not promise an immediate reward at submission time.
- Using the variable without a template: create and configure the private coupon template before adding
{{ customer.generate_coupon }}. - Accidentally paying for every review: add the customer run-count rule when the offer is intended as a one-time reward.
- Conditioning payment on praise: describe the offer as a reward for sharing an opinion unless your actual workflow explicitly applies a rating condition. If you use the five-star path, say that five stars are required.
- Confusing a request with a reward: an Order Completed email that links to a review form is a solicitation workflow, not a post-review coupon workflow.
- Skipping a real test: preview the message and redeem a test-generated code under the same restrictions customers will face.
How to explain the offer to customers
Keep the message specific: thank the customer for submitting a review, show the personalized code, list the key eligibility rule, and state the expiration date. Avoid wording that implies the customer must leave a positive review unless the campaign genuinely uses a documented rating condition. A clear explanation protects the credibility of the review program and reduces failed redemptions.
When a review-coupon extension is a better fit
AutomateWoo is the direct fit when you want a workflow, an approval-aware trigger, and an email containing a generated coupon. A review-coupon extension such as Coupons Pro may be preferable when you need built-in settings for approval dependence, verified purchasers, expiry, and one-review-per-product-per-user behavior. Compare those controls with your required policy before choosing; neither approach is automatically best for every store.
