You can sell on a YouTube live stream in two ways: connect a supported store and tag your own products, or—if your channel is eligible—tag participating retailers’ products through YouTube Shopping’s affiliate program. Check availability, shipping, and current terms in YouTube Studio before planning a stream around a product; eligibility and listings vary by account, country, and audience location.

YouTube’s live-selling guidance names Shopify, Spring, and selected retailers as examples of store connections, but the supported-platform list can change. Confirm the current options in YouTube’s store-connection instructions.

The affiliate route is separate from connecting your own store. YouTube’s published minimum criteria include membership in the YouTube Partner Program, meeting the applicable subscriber threshold, being based in a listed country, and not being a music channel, Official Artist Channel, or associated with music partners. The audience must not be set as Made for Kids or include a significant number of videos marked that way. YouTube notes that pilot criteria may differ, so use the Shopping hub in Studio to confirm your own account’s status.

Set up product tags for a live stream
On desktop
- In YouTube Studio, select Create and then Go Live.
- Open the stream’s Stream or Manage area and find the Shopping tab below the preview.
- Search for the products you want, then tag or remove them. Arrange products in the order you want them displayed; the order in the picker determines their display order.
- Pin or unpin a product to feature it as you discuss it. You can also pin and unpin products while live.
YouTube says some viewers already watching may not immediately see changes made during a live stream. Tags added after the stream can appear in the replay. See YouTube’s live-stream product-tagging instructions for current interface details.
On Android
YouTube’s Android instructions allow product tagging before or during a live stream and support up to 60 products. The platform recommends completing tags at least 30 minutes before going live for the best viewer experience. App interfaces can differ by device; use the desktop workflow above for desktop streams.

Prepare the products and presentation
- Confirm eligibility and access. Check the channel’s Shopping access and the relevant store or affiliate route in YouTube Studio.
- Check who can buy. Confirm the product is listed, available to the intended viewers, and can ship to their locations.
- Tag and order products ahead of time. Choose the display order and identify which item you will pin when it comes up in the stream.
- Make each product easy to understand. Show it clearly, explain what it does and how it is used, and connect it meaningfully to the stream’s subject.
- Direct viewers to the Shopping control. Tell them where to find the products, answer questions plainly, and use a clear call to action.
YouTube recommends tagging relevant products in the order they appear, pinning featured products, explaining and demonstrating products, and answering viewer questions. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of sales or conversion results. The same guidance cites 30 billion hours of shopping-related video watched on YouTube globally in 2023; that is viewing context, not a sales measure.
Know when tags may not appear
Product tags may not display on content with claimed material, content marked Made for Kids, content with limited or ineligible monetization, paid content, or videos blocked for ads. Tags are also limited by supported countries or regions and whether a product ships to a viewer’s location. Changes made during a live may not appear immediately for people already watching.

For third-party products, choose items that are prominent, safe to use, and meaningfully related to the live stream. Products should be identifiable and clearly depicted in line with their intended safe use. Check contractual obligations for paid placements and make any required paid-promotion disclosures. You must own or control the stream’s rights or clear them, including any necessary music rights. Repeated noncompliant tagging can lead to loss of Shopping affiliate access. Review YouTube’s live-shopping guidance and product-tagging policies.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The Shopping tab or affiliate products are unavailable: Check channel eligibility and country availability in Studio. Affiliate access has published criteria, while pilot programs may differ.
- A tag is missing for some viewers: Check the viewer’s region and whether the product ships there. Also check whether the stream has claimed material, is marked Made for Kids, has limited or ineligible monetization, is paid content, or is blocked for ads.
- A new tag or pin is not visible to everyone: Some existing viewers may not see live changes immediately. Prepare tags before the stream when possible.
- A product cannot be found or its terms differ: Check current retailer listings and product data in Studio. Seller availability, stock, shipping, and commission estimates can change; custom rates are not guaranteed.
- A product tag is removed or Shopping access is at risk: Recheck relevance, visibility, and safe-use presentation, and ensure you have the necessary rights and paid-placement disclosures. YouTube says repeated noncompliant tagging may cost creators affiliate access.
