Switch to the HDMI port your device uses

Connect your console, receiver, Blu-ray player, or other HDMI device to a port on the TV, and turn the device on.

Press Home on the TCL Roku remote.

Highlight the matching input tile, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, and press OK. Match the number on the tile to the label beside the physical HDMI socket used.

Wait a few seconds for the device’s signal to appear. A receiver may need to be powered on and properly connected before the TV recognizes it.

If the HDMI input tile is missing
Open Settings > TV inputs, choose the input, and set it up or rename it if needed. Menu presentation can vary by TV model and software version. You can also highlight an input tile, press the remote’s * button, choose Rename Input, and pick a name and icon such as Cable box or Satellite TV.

If HDMI is selected but there is no picture
Changing inputs only tells the TV which source to display; it does not turn on the connected device or make it send a signal. Work through these checks:

Confirm the input: Make sure the selected HDMI number matches the socket the device uses. Choosing HDMI 1 when the device is connected to HDMI 2 can leave the screen without a picture.

Check device power: Turn on the console, receiver, player, or streaming device and confirm it is ready to output video.

Reseat the cable: Unplug and firmly reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends.

Test a different port or cable: If the picture remains absent, try another HDMI port or a cable you know works.

Restart the equipment: Restart the TV and connected device. TCL includes these checks in its no-picture troubleshooting guidance.

Make an HDMI input appear when the TV turns on
On supported menu configurations, set a preferred startup input at Home > Settings > System > Power > Power On. Highlight the input you want and confirm it. The available choices can differ by model or software version, so look for the Power On option if that path is not shown exactly on your TV. TCL documents this setting in its power-on display instructions.
