Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBack up anything you want to keep, confirm you can sign in to your Google Account, then remove your accounts and run the phone’s factory reset from its Settings app. Use the steps for your model: a Settings reset is the recommended consumer handoff route, but it is not a universal guarantee of forensic irrecoverability. Remove any SIM or microSD card separately.
Before you reset: protect your data and avoid a setup lock
A factory reset removes local data and apps, and some app data may not be backed up. Check that photos, files, messages, and other information you want to keep have been copied or backed up, and make sure you know your Google Account password and screen-lock credentials. Google notes that some reset steps apply only to Android 14 and later; its guidance recommends charging the phone to at least 70%, connecting to Wi-Fi or mobile service, and allowing up to an hour for the reset to finish. Google’s Android reset guidance has further preparation details.

Remove accounts and removable storage
Where possible, remove your personal accounts in the phone’s account settings before the reset so the next owner is less likely to encounter a request for your credentials. On Samsung Galaxy devices, Samsung warns that a reset performed outside Settings can trigger Factory Reset Protection (FRP), which may require the previously used Google Account after reset. Samsung’s guidance describes FRP for Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and later; menus and behavior can vary by device and software version. See Samsung’s FRP guidance.

Remove a physical SIM and microSD card if the phone has them. A reset of the phone’s internal storage does not dispose of those items or establish that their contents have been erased. Keep them, erase them separately using appropriate guidance, or include them only if you intend to transfer them.

Factory-reset the phone using its Settings app
Use the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model. Settings names can change across Android versions and manufacturers, so the Pixel path below is not universal. Google specifically recommends using Settings for Pixel trade-ins.
Google Pixel
- Open Settings.
- Tap System > Reset options.
- Choose Erase all data (factory reset), then tap Erase all data and follow the prompts. Google lists this route in its Pixel factory-reset instructions.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management > Reset > Factory data reset.
- Tap Reset, then Delete all, and follow the prompts. Samsung notes that exact menus may vary by model and software; see its Galaxy factory-reset instructions.
Other Android phones
Look up the factory-reset procedure on the phone maker’s official support site or in its manual. Do not assume a Pixel or Samsung menu path applies to another brand. Google’s general Android factory-reset guidance also explains that most devices can be reset with power and volume buttons if Settings is unavailable, but that is a fallback rather than the preferred handoff route.
Confirm the reset before handing the phone over
Let the reset finish and check that the phone reaches its initial setup screen rather than returning to your home screen. Do not sign back into your personal account just to check it. This is a practical handoff check, not a universal technical certification of erasure: manufacturers’ reset and restart flows differ.

- 2-IN-1 TRACKER DEVICE FOR VEHICLES – Plug into a 12V cigarette lighter socket to combine car tracking and dual USB charging in one compact accessory. No separate tracker battery to replace. The tracking function requires vehicle-socket power and shuts down about 5 minutes after input power is removed.
- NO SUBSCRIPTION OR SIM CARD – Pair through Apple’s built-in Find My app with no third-party app, cellular plan, SIM card, or monthly fee. Setup requires an iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 14.5 or later. Android devices are not supported.
- BLUETOOTH SOUND AND FIND MY NETWORK – When nearby, use Play Sound to locate the device. Outside Bluetooth range and while the unit is powered, participating Apple devices can securely relay an approximate location and time to Find My; use Maps for directions. This is not independent GPS or continuous real-time tracking.
- OPTIONAL ALERTS AND LOST MODE – Turn on Notify When Left Behind for separation alerts and set Trusted Locations to reduce routine alerts when leaving a parked vehicle. Lost Mode can show your contact details and notify you when a new location is reported. Unwanted-tracking alerts help protect user privacy.
- DUAL USB CHARGING WITH CLEAR LIMITS – Two USB-A ports can charge two phones at the same time; each port supports up to 5V/2A, with 5V/2.4A shared total. Metal shielding, underground garages, enclosed areas, and low Apple-device traffic may delay or prevent location updates. For item-location assistance only; not an anti-theft or property-recovery system.
If you cannot open Settings
A button-based recovery reset may be possible when the screen or Settings app cannot be used. Google says most Android devices can be reset with the power and volume buttons; consult the manufacturer’s model-specific steps. Be aware that resetting outside Settings can trigger FRP on Galaxy devices covered by Samsung’s guidance, potentially leaving the next owner unable to complete setup without the previous owner’s credentials. If you can still access Settings, use it instead.
If the phone is already out of your hands
You can try a remote erase if Find My Device was configured and the phone can receive the command. An offline phone may not receive a wipe instruction, so sending a command is not proof that erasure completed. Google also says remote erase may not erase SD-card data. Check the device’s status through Google’s Find My Device guidance; for managed devices, the Android Management API documentation describes separate enterprise behavior, including an offline company-owned-device case in which a wipe instruction is not received after 30 days. That is an enterprise-management detail, not a consumer reset timer.
What “securely wiped” means—and when a reset is not enough
For an ordinary donation or recycling handoff, the phone maker’s Settings reset is the practical consumer procedure for removing local data. It should not be described as a guarantee that data is impossible to recover on every Android model. NIST Special Publication 800-88 Revision 1 classifies Android Settings factory reset as a Clear operation and cautions that assurance depends on the device’s architecture and implementation. For higher-assurance Purge sanitization, it points to device-dependent secure erase, trim, or cryptographic erase capabilities and advises checking with the manufacturer. See NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1. That document is from 2014; organizations with formal or regulated disposal requirements should consult the currently applicable NIST revision and their own policy, rather than treating a consumer reset as certified sanitization.
