You can send a search to Google with Siri by installing the Google app, adding its “Search with Google” action in Apple’s Shortcuts app, and saying the custom phrase you assign. Siri can also answer some web questions directly; the shortcut is the option that opens Google’s app and shows Google results.

Select Search with Google and add it to a shortcut.

Record a short, memorable custom phrase for the shortcut when prompted.

Say “Hey Siri,” followed by your phrase. When Siri prompts you, speak the search you want to run.

The Google app should open and display the search results. The screens and wording can vary as iOS and the Google app are updated. Google introduced this shortcut on February 6, 2020, describing it as a way to make web searches in the Google app easier to start. Google’s announcement also mentioned shortcuts for Drive, YouTube, and Gmail.

Not necessarily. Apple documents Siri answering questions with information from the web—for example, questions about rainbows or the first rocket to reach space. That is different from invoking Google’s shortcut: the shortcut specifically opens the Google app for the search. Apple’s iPhone guide to Siri describes the built-in web-answer capability.

If you want Google’s app and its results, use the custom shortcut phrase. If you simply want Siri to respond to a general knowledge question, ask Siri directly; that does not guarantee the question will be routed through Google Search.
Other ways to open Google Search, Lens, or Voice Search
If you would rather tap than speak a shortcut phrase, Google documents several iPhone entry points. Which ones you can use depends on your iOS version and device:

Google’s instructions and availability details are in Search Help for iPhone Lock Screen and Control Center shortcuts. The Google app listing includes Search, Voice Search, Lens, Search Live, AI Mode, and widgets, but notes that features may not be available in every country. Check the current Google app listing for availability in your region.

Choose the Siri Shortcut if you want a voice-first way to launch a Google search and are comfortable setting a custom phrase in Shortcuts.

Choose a Lock Screen widget if you want to tap Search, Lens, or Voice Search without first speaking to Siri. Google specifies iOS 16 or later for these widgets.

Choose Control Center or Lock Screen replacement if you use iOS 18 or later and want a Google control in those locations.

Use Siri directly when a built-in web answer is enough and you do not specifically need to open Google Search.
