Chrome highlights the matches on the page, and small markers on the scrollbar show where each one sits, so you can jump between them.
Steps to find text on a webpage
- Open the webpage in Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
- Tap More in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Find in page.
- Enter the word or phrase you want to locate.
- Tap Search. Matches are highlighted on the page. Use the markers along the scrollbar to see where the other matches are and to move between them.
Google’s Chrome Help page on searching the web on Android documents this path. The feature works on the page that is currently open. It does not search the wider internet, and the help page does not say whether matching is case-sensitive or whether text that loads only after you scroll or interact with the page will be included. If a term you expect is not highlighted, scroll the page further down and search again, or check that the word is spelled the same way on the page.

Find in page versus Touch to Search
Chrome has a second feature that is easy to confuse with Find in page. Touch to Search looks up a word you select on the page: tap or touch and hold the word, then tap the bottom panel to see search results about it. Find in page stays on the current page and highlights matches. Touch to Search sends the selected term to a search, and Google states that Google must be your default search engine for it to work.

Searching text in a PDF
PDFs opened in Chrome on Android also have their own Find in page control. Tap More, then tap Find in page, and enter your text. Google’s Chrome Help page on managing PDFs on Android describes using the up and down arrows to move to the previous or next instance. This is the one place the help material documents arrow navigation, so use the arrows for PDFs rather than expecting the scrollbar markers to do the same job.

Changing the search engine Chrome uses
Touch to Search and the address bar both use Chrome’s default search engine, which you can change in More → Settings → Basics → Search engine. Google is the default in some countries, but the default can differ by region and device, so check this setting if your results come from another provider. Google’s Chrome Help page on default search engines and site search shortcuts covers the details.
Sharing a passage instead of finding it
If you want to send someone a specific sentence rather than locate a term yourself, select the text and tap Share. Chrome can create a link that opens the page and jumps straight to the highlighted text. This is useful for sharing a passage, but it is not needed to find a term on your own screen. Google describes the feature in its Chrome Help page on sharing quotes and text on Android.

When the steps look different
Menu labels and feature availability can change with Chrome updates, and phone manufacturers sometimes adjust the browser’s layout. The official Google pages linked above do not list minimum Android or Chrome versions or promise identical behavior on every phone. If Find in page is missing from your menu, update Chrome from the Play Store and check the More menu again. If the labels still differ, look for the same function in the menu under similar wording, and use the linked Google help page as the reference for the current names.
