To bring a specific element into view, get its ElementHandle and call await element.scrollIntoView(). If your real goal is to interact with it, prefer Puppeteer’s locator workflow: locator actions scroll into view and check readiness automatically.
Scroll a specific element into view
Use page.waitForSelector() to find the element, check that a handle was returned, then call scrollIntoView():

const element = await page.waitForSelector('#target');
if (!element) {
throw new Error('Target element was not found');
}
await element.scrollIntoView();
ElementHandle.scrollIntoView() takes no options and returns a Promise<void>. Puppeteer documents it as scrolling through its automation protocol client or by calling the element’s DOM scrollIntoView() method. See the ElementHandle.scrollIntoView() API reference.

Use a locator when you intend to interact
Puppeteer recommends locators for ordinary element interactions. A locator describes how to find an element, and its action retries when the element is not ready. Before clicking, the documented checks include that the target is in the viewport, visible, enabled, and has a stable bounding box across two consecutive animation frames.
await page.locator('#target').click();
Locator actions ensure the target is in the viewport by default. To make that behavior explicit, configure the locator before acting:

await page
.locator('#target')
.setEnsureElementIsInTheViewport(true)
.click();
setEnsureElementIsInTheViewport() returns a cloned locator rather than mutating the original; its default setting is true. The viewport-setting API reference documents the option, and Puppeteer’s page interactions guide explains locator behavior.

Scrolling a target into view is different from moving a scrollable container by a chosen amount. For wheel-style movement, use locator scroll() with scrollTop and scrollLeft offsets:

await page.locator('.scrollable-panel').scroll({
scrollLeft: 0,
scrollTop: 300,
});
This example moves the located panel vertically by 300 pixels and leaves its horizontal offset at zero. Use this when you need controlled movement within a scrollable area; use scrollIntoView() when you need a particular target exposed, whatever its distance from the current viewport. The interactions guide covers locator scrolling.
Click methods already scroll when needed
If the next action is a click, a separate scroll is usually unnecessary. Puppeteer documents that ElementHandle.click() scrolls the element into view if needed and clicks its center. Page.click(selector) likewise finds the matching element, scrolls it into view, and clicks; it throws if no element matches. Locators add the readiness checks and retry behavior described above.

await page.locator('#target').click();
See the ElementHandle.click() reference and Page.click() reference for their documented behavior. Avoid scrolling and then clicking through a stale handle if the page may replace the element in between.
Handle lifecycle and common problems
- No matching element: a selector lookup may fail or return no handle. Check the result before calling a method; for a click, Puppeteer documents an error when
Page.click()finds no matching selector. - Detached element: a handle represents a particular DOM element, not a selector that automatically finds its replacement. If the page updates or navigates, locate the target again. Puppeteer documents detached-element errors for handle clicks; the scroll reference does not enumerate its own error cases.
- Target is in view but not ready: being in the viewport alone does not establish visibility, enabled state, or layout stability. For an intended interaction, use a locator action rather than treating a successful scroll as proof that a click can succeed.
- Handle retained too long: Puppeteer’s interactions guide describes
waitForSelector()as a lower-level API and advises disposing of its returnedElementHandlewhen it is no longer needed to prevent memory leaks.
The cited API pages identify Puppeteer documentation versions 25.12.0 for locator guidance and 25.9.0 for one click reference. Check the API reference for the version installed in your project if a method signature or behavior differs.

If you only need a screenshot rather than browser automation, ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. Its capture can accept cookie banners and remove supported consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers say which page verdict and billing outcome applied. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
