To save a Google results page for an SEO audit, search the exact query and use a browser extension that explicitly captures the full SERP—not a tool that screenshots the website page shown in Google. Record the query, capture time, device, location, language, and sign-in context so the image is useful evidence of what appeared in that specific search session.
First, make sure you are capturing the right thing
A Google SERP screenshot shows the search results page: organic listings, ads, and any visible features such as panels or summaries. A screenshot of a page from Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool shows how Google rendered a website page; it is not an archive of the search results that led to it.

Google’s URL Inspection documentation says a rendered-page screenshot is available after a successful live test. It is not available for the indexed-URL view or an unsuccessful fetch. Use that feature when you need to inspect your own page’s rendering, not when you need a record of a SERP. Google Search Console URL Inspection documentation.
Capture a SERP consistently for an SEO audit
- Choose the exact query. Search the phrase you are auditing in Google, preserving spelling, punctuation, and any location modifier that is part of the query.
- Set the audit context. Note whether the capture is desktop or mobile, the country or location, language, and whether you are signed in when those factors matter to the audit. Treat the screenshot as evidence of what appeared in that browser context at that time, not as a universal ranking record.
- Choose a full-page capture extension. Check that its listing explicitly describes full-page SERP capture. A generic full-page screenshot tool may capture only the visible browser page or the website you opened.
- Capture and retain the original. Save the unmodified output. Use a predictable name such as
google__desktop__best-running-shoes__us__2026-10-03_1430.png, replacing the query, context, and timestamp with your actual values. This is a practical naming convention, not a required format. - Add an audit note. Record the query, date and time, device, location, language, and sign-in status alongside the image. If you compare captures over time, keep these conditions as consistent as practical.
Choose an extension by what the audit needs
Extension capabilities and privacy disclosures can change. The following are descriptions in Chrome Web Store listings, not independently verified test results. Review the current listing and developer privacy policy before installing or relying on a feature.
#1 Best Overall
| Tool | What its listing describes | Best fit and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| SERPshot | The listing describes full-page Google and Bing SERP screenshots, query queues, device presets, automatic parsing, CSV export, and query, device, engine, country, and timestamp details, including filename tokens. It also enumerates SERP features. | A close match when you want full-page captures plus audit context or exports. Check whether the specific SERP features you care about appear in your own captures; the listing’s feature claims are not an independent completeness test. Chrome Web Store listing. |
| SERP Screenshot HD | The listing describes full-page SERP screenshots and keyboard shortcuts for full-page and visible-section capture. | Consider it if you need a choice between full-page and visible-section captures. “High-fidelity” and image-quality language in the listing is a vendor claim. Chrome Web Store listing. |
| SEOquake | The listing describes an SEO extension with a SERP overlay, country and language selection, and data exports including CSV and PDF. | Useful for SERP analysis and exports, but the listing excerpt does not describe it as a dedicated full-page SERP screenshot extension. Chrome Web Store listing. |
| GO SERP | The listing describes on-page SEO auditing, page-level data, and a snapshot of the whole open page. It also states that data remains in-browser and reports a no-collection disclosure. | Its described screenshot is of the open website page, not a Google SERP capture. Treat privacy statements as developer and store disclosures, not as an independent privacy audit. Chrome Web Store listing. |
What to check before trusting a capture
- Capture scope: Does the extension say it captures the full results page or only the visible viewport? Does the capture include content that loads farther down the page?
- Context: Can you identify the query, device, search engine, location, and capture time from the image, filename, or accompanying notes?
- SERP features: If ads, AI summaries, local panels, or other features matter, inspect the resulting image on your own queries rather than assuming a listing’s feature list proves complete capture.
- Export and analysis: Distinguish image capture from overlays, parsing, or CSV/PDF reporting. These solve related but different audit tasks.
- Data practices: Read the current store disclosure and developer privacy policy. Do not infer data handling beyond what those disclosures state.
Use Google Search screenshots in reports carefully
Google’s Brand Resource Center/Search Guidelines says: “You don’t need to ask permission to use screenshots of the Google Search page and search results pages in print for educational or instructional purposes.” That permission statement is specifically about print for educational or instructional purposes; do not treat it as blanket guidance for every medium or use.
Google also asks users to keep Search natural and unmodified, avoid implying endorsement, consider permissions for third-party content shown in the screenshot, and place “Google and the Google logo are trademarks of Google LLC.” beneath an image featuring Google Search. Check the current guidance and the rules applicable to your publication before distributing a report. Google Brand Resource Center: Search guidelines.

Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A SERP is a web page, so its API can capture Google search results; it is an alternative to setting up a browser extension, not a substitute for recording your audit context. One GET request returns an image or PDF. The API accepts controls such as viewport and device presets, full-page capture, custom headers and cookies, and a wait condition. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
