Turn on dark mode for Google Search
On a computer
- Open Google Search and select Settings.
- Choose See all settings, then open Appearance.
- Select Dark theme and click Save.
- Run or refresh your search. Check that the results page—not just the browser toolbar—is dark before capturing it.
Google describes Dark theme as light text on a dark background. Search may otherwise use Device default, which follows your device’s current color scheme. Choosing Dark theme explicitly keeps Search dark regardless of that scheme. Labels and available controls can vary on phones and tablets; Google’s computer instructions are not a universal mobile menu path. Google Search Help

Why Chrome dark mode may not be enough
Chrome and Google Search have separate theme controls. Chrome’s dark appearance affects Chrome surfaces such as the homepage, toolbar, settings, and some other pages; set Search’s own Appearance preference if the results remain light. Google Chrome Help

Arrange the page so the query and the results you want to keep are visible. Close menus or pop-ups that cover them, then use the screenshot method for your device.

Troubleshooting
- Results are still light after changing Chrome: Set Google Search’s own preference via Settings > See all settings > Appearance > Dark theme > Save. The Search and Chrome settings are separate.
- Search changes with your device theme: Select Dark theme, rather than Device default, to explicitly prefer dark Search pages.
- The phone menu does not match these steps: Google’s settings can differ by device type and interface. Use Google.com’s Search settings and look for the Appearance or theme control rather than assuming the computer menu labels apply exactly.
- The screenshot shortcut does nothing: On Windows, open Snipping Tool from Start instead. On Android, check the phone maker’s instructions because button combinations can vary.
- You need the whole mobile results page: Android’s Capture more is available on Android 12 and later for most scrollable screens. On iPhone, use Full Page only when that option appears for the current app and content.
