Wait for the table’s actual ready state, then capture the table element or the page. In Playwright, a locator screenshot is a practical way to capture one table; a full-page screenshot captures the page’s scrollable height. Neither method automatically includes rows that have not been rendered or are hidden in a nested scroll container. For virtualized tables, scroll through the required rows and capture segments—or use the app’s export or data interface if you need complete data rather than a visual record.
Wait for the table to be ready
A page-load event does not prove that JavaScript has finished fetching, filtering, or rendering table rows. Wait for a condition that reflects the state you need: for example, a known row becoming visible, an expected row count, or a loading indicator disappearing. Playwright recommends locator-based readiness checks and web-first assertions rather than treating networkidle as a general readiness signal. See the Playwright Page API.

Use a stable locator, preferably one based on the table’s accessible role and name or a reliable selector in your application. The row condition should match the actual completion requirement: seeing one known row is useful, but does not prove every row has loaded.

Capture one table with Playwright
This JavaScript example waits for the named table and a known row, then saves an image of the table element:
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
const table = page.getByRole('table', { name: 'Orders' });
await expect(table).toBeVisible();
await expect(table.getByRole('row').filter({ hasText: 'Order 123' })).toBeVisible();
await table.screenshot({ path: 'orders.png' });
Replace Orders and Order 123 with values from the app. Import Playwright’s expect assertion in the surrounding test or script. A locator screenshot waits for actionability and scrolls the target into view; it captures the locator’s bounds. It does not expand a nested scroll area or guarantee that virtualized rows are all present. See the locator screenshot API.
Capture the full page when the table is part of a page
To capture the page’s full scrollable height rather than just the table element:

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
Full-page capture extends the page screenshot to the page’s scrollable height. It does not force a JavaScript table to load all records, and it does not automatically traverse the contents of nested scrolling regions. The distinction matters if the table has its own scrollbar or renders only rows near the viewport. See Playwright’s screenshot guide.
Get rows from a virtualized or incrementally loaded table
Virtualized tables render only a window of rows around the current scroll position. A screenshot cannot include rows absent from the DOM, and an element screenshot of a scrollable container shows only its currently scrolled content. W3C’s Grid and Table Properties guidance notes that a large grid or table may not be wholly present in the DOM; TanStack’s virtualization guide explains that rendered item indexes follow the scroll position.

- Identify the actual scrollable element, which may be a wrapper around the table rather than the table itself.
- Scroll that element in controlled increments so successive row ranges enter the rendered view. Playwright documents manual scrolling to trigger additional content in infinite lists in its scrolling guide.
- After each movement, wait for an application-specific signal that the next rows are available, such as a known row or a loading state changing. Avoid relying on an arbitrary delay as proof of completion.
- Capture each relevant segment, keeping enough overlap to make the sequence easy to verify. If the goal is all records rather than a visual record, prefer the application’s export or data interface.
- Check that the first and last expected rows appear in your captures, and check the intermediate range if omissions would matter.
Do not claim that a single screenshot contains every row unless you have verified that the table actually rendered them all. Browser accessibility information is derived from the rendered DOM, so rows not present there are not made visible to a screenshot simply because the application has more records.
Choose capture scope based on what must be included
| Need | Method | Important constraint |
|---|---|---|
| One table in its current rendered state | Locator screenshot | Captures the element bounds; nested scroll content is limited to the current scroll position. |
| The page’s full vertical extent | page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }) |
Captures page scroll height, not rows that were never rendered or every nested scroll state. |
| All rows in a virtualized table | Scroll and capture segments, or use the app’s export/data access | Rows may not coexist in the DOM. Verify coverage rather than assuming a single image is complete. |
| Repeatable visual regression image | Keep browser and operating environment consistent | Rendering can vary with browser, platform, settings, hardware, and headless mode. |
For a wide table, decide whether one very wide image is useful or whether separate captures of readable column groups better serve the intended reader. The sources establish screenshot scope and clipping behavior, but not a universal best width or image-size threshold.

Make repeated captures more consistent
Visual output can differ across operating systems, browser versions, settings, hardware, and headed versus headless runs. For visual comparisons, keep the environment and viewport consistent. Disable animations or mask volatile regions when appropriate; otherwise timestamps, rotating content, or transitions can create differences unrelated to the change being tested. Playwright covers these factors in its visual comparisons documentation.
Troubleshoot missing rows and incomplete captures
- The screenshot has only the first visible rows: The table may have a nested scrollbar. Scroll its actual container and capture the needed positions; a page-level full-page screenshot does not guarantee that nested content is expanded.
- Rows disappear as you scroll: The table may be virtualized, replacing off-screen rows in the DOM. Capture successive positions and verify coverage, or use the app’s export/data interface.
- The image is blank or the table is absent: The readiness check may run before the table appears, or the locator may not match the rendered table. Check the accessible name or selector and wait for a real table-specific condition.
- Some later rows never load: The application may load more data only after scrolling or after a loading state resolves. Scroll the correct container, then wait for a known later row or other app-specific completion signal.
- Images differ between runs: Check for environment changes and volatile content. Keep browser, OS, viewport, and screenshot settings consistent; disable animations or mask changing regions for visual tests.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It can capture a URL as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, but a URL-based capture does not replace the app-aware waiting and deliberate scrolling required to prove that a virtualized table’s every row has appeared. Its clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Playwright locator screenshot capture every row in a table?
No. It captures the locator’s bounds and currently rendered content; nested scrolling and virtualization can leave other rows out.
Recommended Free Tools
Will `fullPage: true` include rows in a nested table scroller?
Not necessarily. It captures the page’s scrollable extent, but does not automatically scroll nested containers or render virtualized rows.
