For a private Indian company URL, the dependable pattern is usually to run an approved browser worker inside the organization’s network. Supplying a password or cookie to an external screenshot service does not give that service access to private DNS or routes.
Why reachability comes before authentication
A screenshot API does not photograph a URL from the outside; a browser or rendering service must navigate to that URL. If the hostname resolves only on the company network, or access requires a VPN or internal route, a renderer outside that boundary may fail before login is even relevant. Test from the actual environment where the renderer will run—not only from a developer laptop connected to VPN.

Separate the two questions:
- Network reachability: Can the renderer resolve the hostname and connect to the site through an approved route?
- Authentication: Once connected, can the renderer use an authentication method the application accepts?
Cookies, Basic Authentication, and authorization headers can address some authentication needs; none creates a network route. Cloudflare documents these authentication options for its Browser Run screenshot endpoint, but they do not establish access to a particular company intranet or compatibility with its SSO and MFA flow (Cloudflare Browser Rendering documentation).

Choose where the rendering browser runs
Run an organization-managed worker inside the network
For a private hostname, an organization-managed browser worker deployed where internal DNS and routes are available is often the clearest design. A caller sends an authorized capture request to the worker; the worker opens an approved intranet page using a narrowly scoped service identity or other approved session, captures it, and returns the image through a controlled endpoint.

Before deployment, agree with network, identity, and security owners on where the worker runs, how credentials are stored, whether screenshots may leave the organization, and who can request captures. The service should not have broad access merely because the target page is internal.
Use a managed screenshot API only after verifying the route
Cloudflare documents an endpoint that can navigate to a URL and capture a rendered page, with controls including cookies, Basic Authentication, custom authorization headers, viewport, full-page output, selectors, and waits. Those documented controls are useful only if the selected deployment can also reach the private hostname and satisfy the organization’s identity and data-handling requirements (Cloudflare Browser Rendering documentation).
Another vendor documents a Basic Authentication parameter and examples with internal application hostnames. Treat an example as a description of that vendor’s feature, not proof that your private DNS, firewall, SSO, or network route will work (Zyte API reference).
Use a person’s browser for an occasional capture
If an authorized person can open the page in a browser, a user-mediated screen capture may be adequate for a one-off. The browser Screen Capture API asks the user to choose a screen, window, or tab; it is not an unattended server-side screenshot API. Review the result carefully, because other information visible on the selected screen can be captured too (MDN Screen Capture API).

Build a safe intranet screenshot endpoint
- Confirm access from the worker environment. Ask an approved machine in the intended deployment location to resolve the intranet hostname and load the page. Record whether access depends on VPN, private DNS, firewall rules, device posture, SSO, or MFA.
- Select an approved network placement. Deploy the browser where it can reach the target, or establish a specifically approved private connection to a managed renderer. Confirm where captured images and credentials will be processed and stored.
- Choose the page’s supported authentication method. Use only a method confirmed by the identity and application owners. Session cookies, Basic Authentication, or custom headers may work for some pages; do not assume an interactive SSO or MFA flow can be replaced by a static credential.
- Constrain destinations and permissions. Accept only approved target hosts; validate redirects and resolved addresses; restrict outbound network access; and give the worker identity only the permissions it needs. A service that fetches caller-supplied URLs can become a way to probe internal systems, a risk known as server-side request forgery (SSRF). Apply layered defenses and least privilege (OWASP SSRF Prevention Cheat Sheet).
- Wait for the page’s real content. JavaScript applications may render important content after the initial navigation event. Where possible, wait for a stable, page-specific element; otherwise tune the navigation wait condition and timeout. Cloudflare documents controls such as
waitUntilandwaitForSelectorfor its rendering endpoint (Cloudflare Browser Rendering documentation). - Set capture dimensions and scope. Choose a viewport that matches the intended use. Use full-page capture for a complete document or a selector for one component when the API supports it. Inspect captures for stale, blank, partially rendered, or sensitive content before storing or sharing them.
- Log outcomes without leaking secrets. Record the approved target, request identity, timing, and success or failure. Avoid logging passwords, session cookies, or sensitive page contents unless policy explicitly permits it.

Browser and network policy are different concerns
Chrome’s local-network access guidance describes permission checks for browser-originated requests that cross from public to local or loopback address spaces, and requires secure contexts. These browser permissions are not a substitute for server routing: a server-side renderer has its own network path and controls. Do not conflate a browser permission prompt with whether the renderer can reach an intranet host, and do not rely on deprecated Private Network Access preflight headers (Chrome local network access guidance).
Troubleshoot common failures
Hostname cannot be resolved
Likely cause: The renderer is outside the private DNS environment or is not using the organization’s DNS configuration.
Fix: Test name resolution from the worker itself. Use an approved network placement or private DNS connection rather than assuming the hostname will resolve because it works on a VPN-connected laptop.

Connection times out or is refused
Likely cause: No permitted route, a firewall restriction, or a service listening only on an internal interface.
Fix: Have network owners verify the route and firewall policy from the renderer’s location. Do not solve the problem by exposing the intranet broadly to the public internet.
The page loads but redirects to login or shows an access error
Likely cause: The chosen credential mechanism is unsupported, the session expired, or the identity flow depends on interactive SSO, MFA, or device posture.
Fix: Confirm the application’s supported automation method with its identity owner. Use a scoped service identity only if approved; do not assume a cookie or header bypasses an interactive security control.

The screenshot is blank or incomplete
Likely cause: Navigation was captured before client-side rendering completed, a required resource failed, or the capture used an unsuitable viewport or selector.
Fix: Wait for a stable content element when possible, adjust the navigation wait and timeout, and verify the selected viewport or full-page setting. Inspect the actual returned image rather than treating a successful HTTP response as proof of a complete page.
The worker can reach destinations callers should not control
Likely cause: The endpoint accepts arbitrary URLs or follows redirects without rechecking their destinations.
Fix: Enforce an allowlist, validate redirects and resolved addresses, restrict egress, and reduce the worker identity’s privileges. Review the SSRF guidance from OWASP.
