To preserve an eBay listing as it looks now, capture a screenshot of the visible title, price, condition, shipping, seller, and item number or URL if available. To follow the listing, add it to your eBay Watchlist; to find newly listed alternatives, save a search; and to compare past listings, search eBay’s Completed listings. A screenshot records one moment—it does not track later price changes.
What a screenshot can—and cannot—tell you
A screenshot preserves the information visible on your screen when you take it. It can help you remember a listing’s displayed price and terms or document what you saw before revisiting it. It does not update when the seller changes the price, and it is not a history of the listing.

Keep the listing URL or item number with the image when possible. A screenshot alone may not identify the listing after it ends. For a manual record, add the capture date to the filename or a note, then take another screenshot when you revisit the listing.
How to screenshot an eBay listing
Open the listing and arrange the page so the details you need are visible. Include the title, price, condition, shipping, seller, and listing identifier when available. If those details do not fit in one frame, take more than one screenshot rather than cropping out important context.

Windows
- Open the eBay listing in your browser.
- Press the Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay.
- Select the area containing the listing details. Microsoft documents rectangular, window, full-screen, and freeform capture modes.
- Save or share the captured image using the Snipping Tool controls.

Mac
- Open the listing in your browser.
- Press Shift-Command-4 and drag over the details you want to capture. Press Shift-Command-3 to capture the entire screen instead.
- Alternatively, press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app and use its additional controls, including timer and save-location options.
- Use the screenshot thumbnail to edit the capture, or allow it to save to the desktop.

Phone or tablet
Use your device’s built-in screenshot controls. The exact buttons and gestures depend on the device, so check its current support instructions if you are unsure. Before capturing, make sure the price and other details you want to preserve are actually visible.

How to follow an active listing
Add the listing to your eBay Watchlist from its page, then return to My eBay > Watching to review items you are considering. eBay provides sorting and filtering for watched items and documents notifications for watched listings. Its help information gives an ending-soon notification as an example; it does not establish that you will receive an alert for every price change. Treat Watchlist as an organizer and follow-up aid, not a complete price-history service. See eBay’s Watchlist help.
Watched listings can also disappear from the list: eBay says an ended item may be removed if it is not relisted after 60 days. Save the URL or item number separately if you need to identify it later.

How to find new listings and compare past ones
Get notified about new matching listings
If you want alternatives rather than updates to one specific item, search using descriptive keywords and save the search. eBay says saved searches can provide alerts when newly listed items match. This is useful for discovery, but a matching new listing is not a price-change alert for the listing you are already watching. See eBay’s saved-search help.
Check Completed listings
- Open eBay Advanced Search.
- Enter descriptive keywords for the product or model.
- Select the option for Completed listings, then run the search.
- Compare the results with the active listing before drawing conclusions about price.
Completed results can show how ended listings compare; they are not a guaranteed timeline of changes to one active listing. eBay’s search and pricing help recommends looking for similar products and checking completed listings.
Choose genuinely comparable items
A low or high result can mislead if the items differ. When comparing, check:
- Exact product identity, model, and variant.
- Condition and any stated defects.
- Accessories or other items included.
- Shipping terms and cost.
- Sale format, such as auction or fixed price.
- When the listing ended.
Record these alongside the displayed price if you are building your own comparison. Similar wording in a title alone does not make two listings equivalent.

Troubleshooting your record
The screenshot misses the price or shipping
Reframe the page or take a second capture that includes the missing detail. A screenshot only preserves what was on screen.
The listing has ended or disappeared
Use the saved URL or item number to identify it, if you kept one. Check Completed listings for past comparisons; an ended item may no longer appear in Watching if it was not relisted after 60 days.
You expected an alert after a price change
Watchlist notifications should not be treated as a guaranteed alert for every price edit. Revisit the listing and take a dated screenshot for a manual record, or use a saved search when your goal is alerts about newly listed matches.

There is no clear comparison price
Narrow the search with the model and variant, then inspect condition, accessories, shipping, sale format, and sale date in the results. If those details differ substantially, the completed listing may not be a useful comparison.
