On a Mac, open the Aadhaar page and press Shift-Command-4 to select just the page area, Shift-Command-3 to capture the whole screen, or use the window-capture option to capture the browser window. For a copy of the full webpage that you can reopen later, use Safari’s Web Archive instead. Check any screenshot for Aadhaar or other personal details before sharing it.
Choose what you need to capture

Apple’s built-in shortcuts capture the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion. The exact appearance and available formats can vary by macOS version and locale. Apple Support: Take a screenshot on Mac.

Capture an Aadhaar page with the Mac shortcuts
- Open the UIDAI or myAadhaar page in your browser and arrange the page as you want it to appear. Scroll to the relevant section and close anything that should not be visible.
- Choose the capture area: press Shift-Command-3 for the full display; press Shift-Command-4 and drag for a selection; or press Shift-Command-4, then Space, and click the browser window.
- Find the saved image. By default, screenshots save to the desktop. The screenshot controls let you select a different save location.
- Open the image and inspect it before sending or posting it. Crop or redact sensitive details if the recipient does not need to see them.
Use Screenshot controls for a timer or clipboard copy
On macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app controls. From Options, you can set a timer, choose where captures are saved, control whether the floating thumbnail appears, and choose whether to show the pointer. You can also copy a capture to the clipboard rather than saving it as a file. A timer can help when you need to dismiss the controls or arrange the page before capture.

In Safari, use File > Save As and choose Web Archive from Format for an archive. Some pages may prevent saving items shown on them. Apple’s guidance describes saving a page, but does not establish that every UIDAI page or dynamic element will be preserved identically. Apple Support: Save part or all of a webpage.
Protect Aadhaar details in a capture
A screenshot can expose whatever personal information is visible on the screen. Prefer a public UIDAI page or a non-sensitive example. Before sharing, check for Aadhaar numbers, names, addresses, OTPs, and other personal details. This is prudent handling guidance, not a claim that every personal screenshot is prohibited.

- UIDAI’s portal lists Download Masked Aadhaar as a free service and says mobile OTP is required. UIDAI: Download Aadhaar.
- UIDAI explains that a Masked Aadhaar replaces the first eight digits with “xxxx-xxxx” and shows only the last four. UIDAI FAQ: What is Masked Aadhaar?
- A UIDAI compendium for Aadhaar user agencies and departments advises against publishing personally identifiable data, including Aadhaar, in public websites; where a number must be printed, it says to mask or truncate it so only the last four digits are shown. Its stated audience is agencies and departments, so do not treat that passage as a blanket statement of every individual’s legal duties. UIDAI Circular Compendium.
UIDAI’s website policy applies to its official website and associated portals. It addresses accurate reproduction and source acknowledgement when material is republished, and distinguishes private-study reproduction from sale or commercial use; it does not say screenshots are categorically impermissible. - The shortcut seems to do nothing: press and release the keys together. On macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, use Shift-Command-5 to open the controls and start a capture there.
- The image includes too much: use Shift-Command-4 and drag a tighter rectangle, or capture the browser window with Shift-Command-4, then Space.
- You cannot find the image: check the desktop first, the default save location. If you changed the destination in Screenshot Options, look in that selected folder.
- The page looks incomplete: scroll to the content you need and capture the visible screen. A screenshot records what is displayed, not the entire webpage. For a later-viewable copy, try Safari’s Web Archive, while noting that some pages may restrict what can be saved.
- A personal detail is visible: do not share the unredacted image. Make a redacted copy and inspect it again before sending.
