Use an AI-enabled browser session to capture the page visually, then inspect its accessibility snapshot and keyboard behavior separately. A screenshot shows appearance; it does not reveal what a screen reader announces or prove that the page is accessible.
What the screenshot and accessibility checks tell you
Browser automation can capture the current viewport, a selected element, or the full scrollable page. Choose the scope that matches the evidence you need. Playwright’s documentation distinguishes visual screenshots from accessibility snapshots: screenshots are for visual inspection, while snapshots expose page structure and interaction targets. Playwright’s screenshot guidance recommends pairing the two when a task needs both kinds of evidence.

An AI agent that reads an accessibility tree or snapshot has not necessarily run NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, or another screen reader. State exactly what was checked. A screenshot or snapshot alone also cannot establish WCAG conformance: accessibility involves content, user agents, and assistive technologies, as the W3C overview of User Agent Accessibility Guidelines explains.
Capture a page with an AI browser session
Choose a capture scope
- Viewport: capture what is visible in the browser window. This is useful for documenting a particular on-screen state.
- Element: capture a specific region, such as a dialog, navigation menu, or component under review.
- Full page: capture the complete scrollable page when the layout or content below the fold matters.
Playwright documents these screenshot scopes in its Page API. If the page loads content dynamically, wait until the relevant state is stable before capturing it; otherwise, the image may show a loading state or omit content that has not appeared yet.

Capture and save the evidence
- Open the target URL in the browser automation session. If access requires a login, use an authorized session and take care not to expose private information in a saved image.
- Wait for the part of the page you need to inspect to finish loading and reach the state you intend to document.
- Choose viewport, element, or full-page capture, then save the screenshot with a descriptive filename. The Playwright MCP screenshot documentation says a filename can be supplied; if omitted, the screenshot is returned inline as well as saved under a generated name.
- Record the browser or automation method, capture scope, output location if known, and whether an actual screen reader was run.
For Playwright MCP, keep the distinction between visual evidence and interaction instructions in mind: its documentation says, “Screenshots are for looking at, not for acting on — use browser_snapshot to get refs to interact with.” Use the accessibility snapshot to understand available structure and controls, not the pixels of the screenshot as a substitute for interaction references.
Inspect the page structure and keyboard operation
Refresh the accessibility snapshot after changes
Request an accessibility snapshot separately from the screenshot. Use it to inspect the structure and exposed controls, including roles and names. If navigation or a state change alters the page, take a fresh snapshot before acting on element references; stale references may no longer describe the current page.

ARIA roles and states help expose semantics to assistive technologies, but they do not replace sound page structure or keyboard behavior. The W3C WAI-ARIA overview describes ARIA’s role in exposing semantics, while the W3C Page Structure Tutorial explains how meaningful headings and regions support orientation and navigation.

- Use the keyboard to move through relevant links, fields, buttons, and media controls, rather than assuming that a control shown in a screenshot can be operated.
- Observe whether focus is visible and follows a logical order through the relevant content.
- Check that interactive elements can be entered and that focus can also move away from them.
These checks follow the practical approach in W3C WAI’s Easy Checks. Record the controls and states you actually checked. A successful keyboard pass is useful evidence, but it does not tell you exactly how a screen reader will announce the page.

Troubleshoot an incomplete or misleading result
- The screenshot is blank or shows a loader: the page may not have reached the state you meant to capture. Wait for the relevant content or state to settle, then capture again.
- The full-page image omits content: confirm that you selected full-page rather than viewport capture, and allow dynamically loaded content to appear before taking the shot.
- The agent cannot act on a control it saw: visual pixels are not interaction references. Refresh the accessibility snapshot after a state change and use its current structure and targets.
- The snapshot looks reasonable, but the page still seems inaccessible: verify keyboard access and visible, logical focus; a structured snapshot is not a real screen-reader session.
- You need to report screen-reader behavior: run an actual screen reader and check its output or behavior. Do not describe an accessibility snapshot as a screen-reader test.
Browser API details can vary by Playwright version, so consult the current Page API documentation when exact code-level behavior matters.
